I had it down as ‘equally’ in an intriguing rural accent.

Just read something from Kevin Affleck. We apparently had 41 shots against Arsenal, Fulham and Newcastle in total. Of those 41, only 12 were on target and produced 1 goal!!

The stats looked incredible. Almost like that 53 shots and no goals Richarlison stat last season.

So what's going wrong? Is it just an anomaly that occurred three times?

There was some noise as we walked down the slope away from the ground but as we got closer it was a large number of their fans chanting "Ashley out"-some people are never satisfied :D

In the pub later-much later- as we staying over, the guys we spoke to said how lucky they were to have won that-a championship team in the premier league was their view of their team.

It’s been 11 games and Bournemouth aside we’ve looked fine

I actually thought we were good against Bournemouth until Jon Moss decided to sabotage the match. Had it stayed 11 v 11 I think we'd have got back into the game.

Wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world to bring in a specialist striker coach?

    Kevin Phillips? Ian Wright?

We've already got the perfect guy. Luther. He's got his coaching badges and is a familiar face. You could only really use someone like Luther, or any other former player, in terms of positional sense, or having the right mindset. KP was brilliant and finding spaces to score goals. I remember watching him for us, and he made it look easy. He always knew where the ball was going to go and was there for the simple tap ins.

Blissett, used to miss a lot of chances, but he was brilliant and getting them. He never hid and always put himself on the line. I remember once when Bolton blasted the ball "Bolton style" right across the face of the goal. It was going like a rocket and no one in their right mind would get their head on it, but Blissett did. He headed it, but wide, and it knocked him unconscious momentarily.

But this is what you do if you want to score goals.

  8. I thought we were getting destroyed by Bournemouth before the red card to be honest. Would still have been 2-0 down with the pen (red card or not) and their forwards were running rampant at the time on the break.

The way it was going I thought it could still have been 4-0 with 11v11.

I do agree with HB1 that we actually started well but once they scored it was all Bournemouth.

If anything it was the 3rd goal before HT that killed the game.

Least at 2-0 we might have gone for it after the break.

Much as I loved and love Luther, as a guy to coach strikers to be more efficient in front of goal.....hmmm...

The people on the Raft of the Medusa looked less at sea than Kiko that day.

Holebas spent half the time out of position (from taking right wing corners, etc).

    Scrambled.

The third goal was a direct result of the unnecessary sending off. Ok, you can criticise Gracia for not bringing on Mapps as that made a bad situation a lot worse by playing Capoue at centre back, but had we stayed with 11 men, the last two goals would not have occurred, imo.

Yep, Luther Missit, I seem to recall. He was certainly a good player, but the years definitely seem to redden those rose tinted specs.

Luther Missit was a snide press invention. His records of all-time top scorer and appearance maker can, and should, never be sullied.
At the very least he could teach the modern striker to be more willing to have shots at goal than most of them appear to be.

Yep. Add top-scorer in the top division and a hat-trick for England (OK it was Luxembourg, but very few people get them).

I have watched Southampton a few times this season and they have looked terrible certainly one of the worse 3 sides in the premier league. They play a 4-4-2 with no real cutting edge and it all looks a bit flat. I usually go into games as a bit of a pessimist but I am full expecting us to win this. We battered Newcastle and should have scored half a dozen I just hope the lads have been working on their finishing this week.

Luther's main attribute was to use instinct, pace and bravery to get into scoring positions. The odious Glanville may have derided his conversion rate, but Luther bought more tickets for the raffle than anyone else in his era
