Nice but the hornet is too stylised. Looks a bit butterfly like. Needs a sting.

As an ex schoolboy member of the Amateur Entomological Society (don’t ask!) I can confidently say that’s no hornet, it’s a lacewing.

The lacewing army, we’ll f**king flutter yer ...

Lacewings are to harts what hornets are to moose.. or something like that.

From moose to aphid - with evidence that their parthenogenesis isn't quite working properly (it's supposed to a be a perfect copy).

The emblem shown on the far right with the Harts head on it's own with just the word Watford above it would not be bad IMO. However, perhaps the Rampant Hart as used in the 1881 crest, again with the word Watford above it, might look even better.

Globally, a hornet or "The Hornets" will be a disaster. Insects are not liked, hornets especially, they are universally disliked, met with revulsion, keep away! Also, there is the fact that the brand 'Hornets' is already established with the 'Charlotte Hornets' in the USA, you might get some of their fans interested in us but the rest of the American population won't want to know, if you're a Chicago Bulls or Atlanta Hawks fan, there's no way you would follow any team called 'Hornets' even if it's football (sorry soccer) rather than basketball. Then outside the States, especially in India, China and the Middle East there is anti-American sentiment and fans in those areas will not want to follow a team called Hornets, a name already established by the Charlotte Hornets as "American".

On the flip side "Horns" are liked and loved worldwide. Horns are seen as proud, strong, virile!

Overall, my point is that yes, emotionally I want the badge to remain as it is because it represents the club and the area I come from and have lived in all my life but logically and from a marketing point of view it just doesn't make sense to change when we've already got something that could be promoted effectively internationally.

    Come on you "Horns!"

Both the shape and, of course, the colours of the current badge are just fine because they are so distinctive. The only thing that needs improving is the representation of the hart. There’s no need for a hornet at all because that’s just the nickname we call ourselves; it’s not the name of the club or team and has no bearing on where we’re from.

    Exactly.

On my first day at work I found in my desk a jar of powered deer’s horn.

    A Chinese aphrodisiac.

A rather passionate billion strong fanbase awaits.

Ben Dover was recently discussed on another thread.

The Horn motif could lead to a design solution featuring a chap with a massive boner.

Would be catnip to all lads worldwide, & maybe a few ladies!

As part of this, we could freshen up the mascot situation with Mickey the Moose.

Looking forward to the rutting season.

A fine point. A different and seemingly unconsidered perspective of which I have no argument with.

Surely Hornets is the official nickname of the club? Has been for over 50 years now.
The thing for me is that people just dont get why we are nicknamed the hornets and have a "moose" on our badge. I'm not just talking people in general here either.. a lot of our own supporters and people from the town dont understand it.
Now we have the possibility to clear up that misunderstanding i think we should.

Btw the town coat of arms. (where the Hart thing is taken from) also depicts some sea shells, which is a bit odd for a town so far from the sea. Apparently they are scallops and were copied from the Clarendon family coat of arms.
Perhaps we should borrow them for our updated badge and change our nickname to The Scallops.

So why do people around me shout “Come on you Golden Boys”
I thought Golden Boys was our heritage nickname.
Lots more imaginative badge possibilities - like this one :)

Stevohorn, thank you for putting up the town crest, the Hart thing is also taken from "Hartfordshire" now "Hertfordshire". I don't have the skills to put up the Hertfordshire crest but if you look at it you can see the Hart/Stag on there as well.

Top down graphics are "easier" but make less of an impression.

Most end up looking like poorly drawn excerpts from a Victorian Encyclopaedia.

I don't like that graphic from the back of the shirt, it looks like a winged octopus.

The devil is surely more universally "disliked" than hornets, yet Man Utd are still one of the most popular sporting teams worldwide. Similar with Arsenal (a team nicknamed the "Gunners" could be rather divisive in the US, and in many other places, yet they are still popular).

I'm not convinced by this. Perhaps a minority of fans from teams that are close rivals with Charlotte might be put off (e.g. Miami Heat), but I don't suppose the majority of fans would really care. The nickname could even add a sense of "familiarity" and acceptance of the club as a serious sporting entity. Also, how many US soccer fans are even such die-hard followers of the NBA in addition that it might be an issue to them? The fans of both sports might generally come from different demographics, with a fairly small overlap.

Plus, if this problem were really true, then Spurs would be completely screwed in the US.

Also, our logo in its current form might already remind many NBA fans of the Milwaukee Bucks anyway, so changing it wouldn't make much of a difference; if anything it could lessen the number of possible "conflicts" with NBA teams.

    Go for a decent Hart.
    Can be stylised

Don’t need to be wedded forever to hornets

That’s my point. It might be the ‘official’ nickname, but it’s still a nickname, not our name. It’s not like the Charlotte Hornets, Miami Dolphins or Chicago Cubs. Those are the names of the teams.
Actually I don’t have a problem with having a hornet on the badge, but I don’t think it’s a necessary change. A decent hart would be change enough.

Can still have hornets as a nickname, the best nicknames are apocryphal and require inside knowledge.
Doesn’t need to be on the badge does it?
Are there yids on the spurs badge? Last time I looked their badge was some sort of demented poultry
    Newscastle aren’t called the seahorses
Muff aren’t the Art Deco head ballers

    Perfect

Distinct, nuanced, classy, unique to us (no one else gets a hart), decent colours ( no clashing horrendous red)

Gets my vote over our current one 100%

    We have a new winner.

You better be listening pozzos, Carlos has done a design, end the competition, end the internets.

An animal that is both fierce, cute, constipated and has a Deeney sized belly.

    Post of the year.

    Design of the century.

I’m down the tattoo saloon to get this magnificent beast on my thigh

One slight 'picky' criticism - where in that the Harry the Hornet's victory in the mascot steeplechase (2007?) honoured? Also this new-found style of "...not colouring outside the lines..." might be a nod towards the American 'hyperrealism' movement but I don't care for it.
