https://www.oneboro.co.uk/forum/ I'm going to keep this shorter than usual as it's a nothing final game between two sides whose fanbases were probably expecting a bit more back in August (well, one of them anyway...). Before I waffle on, can I just say thank you to all contributors who have done previews this season. It's hard to pick a favourite but they were all great reads. So, after FINALLY getting a home victory (all be it rather fortunate considering Sunderland couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo and some good saves from Bachmann) we travel north to tees-side and the Riverside Stadium with hopes of ending our sorry season on a positive note with back to back wins. Our away form in general has been pretty good this season so I hope we can go there and not get an end of season slapping. Boro ended their season a few weeks back when their playoff hopes faded into the sunset with a few losses on the bounce. However they have had a productive season, all be it nearly a carbon copy of last season with a poor start ending in a decent finish. Ideally with nothing to play for I do not expect this game to be the exciting blood fest it could be between two sides who have played each other a fair few times as of late. In the reverse fixture Boro' got the victory in a 3-2 win at the Vic despite us battling back from two goals down, more slack defending let them in again and we lost the game. It would be ideal for Clevs to chuck a load of U23's on, but then again considering this is possibly Lewis and Dennis's final games I expect they will get one last hurrah along side Livermore who is also probably going to be gone in the Summer. We have gotten pretty hard to beat under Clevs but goal scoring continues to be our worst attribute, which is hopefully something we can address in the window. Skyla Predicts: Middlesbrough 2 Watford 2
As somebody who was never very original or first at anything, may I second @Cthulhu ’s nice comment. Thanks Skyla. You’re one of a very good and hard-working team that keep the forum going.
Seems utterly pointless to play the likes of Lewis and Martins (unless there is an injury apocalypse), Dennis is a bit different as there's a chance he might stay
Fair play to any of you headcases going up to Boro, I'll be sitting snugly on the sofa watching the Plymouth and Brum games
It's a really long way. Can we not just save ourselves the trouble and flip a coin ? Heads we nick a point in a 1-1 draw, tails we agree a 2-0 win for Boro ?
a 6.30am leave, enough time for an old man loo stop on the way, and one more chance to boo Martins for all I'm worth. Expecting to see a couple of youngsters and fringe players start and another couple to see out the game. Might even stay for the Boro lap of appreciation, just so that i can abuse Martins for another 10 minutes. A thrilling end of season 0-0
Safe drive and enjoy those magic moments with your dad. In many years you will look back in fondness on your shared road trips whereas you won’t remember one moment of the match come Sunday
Thanks for the final preview @SkylaRose and for looking after us all! Absolutely buzzing for this one, so much so I'm going to do some decking in the rain whilst it's on. 1-0.
I think the phrase is either a barn door with a handful of gravel or a cows ar5e with a banjo but it made me laugh!
Hats off to those travelling up for this! you must be absolutely nuts but would have gone myself during the nineties when I was young and stupid. Hope Grieves plays but no point in playing any other kids if they're not good enough. 0-0
Who's yer money on as Skyla and Knight GT recreate the great Duelling Banjoes, with classic footage of Burt Reynolds and chums canoeing on the River Tees and horsing around at the Riverside...?
Nice little 3.30 alarm call on Saturday to make it to Watford in time for the 5.00am coach departure. I fully admit I am stupid.
Boro (who cares) 0 - 0 (who cares) Watford 'ORNETS Thank **** this horrendous season is over and done with!
Nice little lie in on Saturday in Ilkley, before a 12:00pm departure in the car… to watch Watford at Middlesbrough. I fully admit I am stupid.
Presumably so that the excitement over these final games doesn't detract from the real football being played later in the day, the THREE 3pm prem league games. If they were played at the same time football fans would barely notice anything was happening in the championship.
No Dennis for this one as he’s injured. Without Chak and TDB too. And as expected, Porteous won’t play either. TC hints at a few youth team/development players playing a part.
But that doesn't answer why they aren't being played on Sunday. I thought the last day of the Championship season was always a Sunday? Possibly I haven't been paying attention.
I think last season we ended on a Monday? The extra bank holiday. Prior to that, our final match in our previous Championship season (2021) was a Saturday. The PL always ends on a Sunday but I’m not sure actually that the Championship does
