What with their excellent new Director of Football. Their charming multibillionaire owner - who definitely knows what he is doing.
And their outstanding, loyal, mature, non-snake like manager and a bloated team of overpaid midfielders why would they need to make any changes or signings. First place in the "Top 7" IS GUARANTEED

Noticed the first Doucoure story yesterday

Surprised it took as long as that

Safe to say that even if Everton were interested, the conversation was a short one

Think we are still preoccupied with getting rid of the dross we've accumulated in the last 2-3 years before making any moves

Even then, would be amazed to see more than 4 players incoming

IIRC you thought that the Mexican winger (Lozano?) was going to be your main target. Still confident after the World Cup has put a zero or two on the end of his price?

Lozano had spoken about Everton's interest before the World Cup. Not sure I would say I felt "confident" beforehand TBH - but I'm certainly not now. We are after a wide player. There have been a few fanciful suggestions of Zaha and Lozano does still seem on the radar, but the likes of Barcelona and Man Utd have also been linked with him now, so you'd have to assume that our chances of getting him have lessened

I think Lozano is more of an Everton level player than a Man Utd/Barca one tbh. He'd be good for you, but if he went to Utd he'd be another Depay; his game is pretty limited.

Zaha is a more dangerous player than Lozano and one who I'd say is definitely out of your reach - he'd go to Spurs, Chelsea or Arsenal ahead of you.

Haven't seen enough of Lozano to really know what his limitations are yet but first impressions (I don't watch Dutch football) are that he seems direct, quick but doesn't have much in the way of a trick to his game. Think he'd suit this league. Zaha is out of our league, agreed. Had things been different, I could have seen us being interested in Richarlison, but that's not happening.

TB9, it’s the finest compliment a WFC forumite can give.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

Marco Silva’s first match in charge of Everton this afternoon ended in a 22-0 win.

    Seriously lol.

They were up against a side that play in one if the 18 leagues which form the 5th tier of Austrian football... it's close to pub league standard. Weird choice of fixture.

Here's the pick of the goals:

Well they only lost 8-0 to Arsenal.

Everton were beaten 5-1 and 6-2 by the Gunners last season...

I wasn't having a dig just curious because I remembered you mentioned him and a couple of decent WC performances and suddenly he's a superstar.

We had a Vida thread before the WC and he'll be 20m+ now, including you with a failed 17m bid apparently.

The window to buy nationalities that failed to qualify.

Aren’t Austrian pubs called “heurigen”? I went to one once. It was superb.

Possible forum awayday? Seb must know some decent ones.

I still can’t believe after all the crap he put us through he still had the nerve to go to Everton after all.

    Total and utter W*^^^R.

Well he definitely will be at the Vic next season and I hope he is given a local warm welcome - banners high with Kaa from the jungle book singing his omens.

Hope we beat him too - feel good to do the double even.

  23. What benefit is there in playing a club so far below their level?

    Pointless waste of time

I suppose ATV Irdning's coach thought it would be a good test for his players.

I'm glad we got our compensation. That'll teach a club like Everton to throw their weight around.

The Ponzos secret lawyers got a squagillion pound settlement. But I can't say more than that.

We had been using their training facilities, the fixture appears to have been a "thank you"

  28. Then buy them flowers and chocolates

Playing a team one hundred and eleventy levels below does neither side any benefit

I tend to agree and made this point yesterday to a couple of friends

They replied that it's fairly common practice in many countries to start off with a fixture like that

In fact, I sort of follow a German 2nd division side called Darmstadt (another family connection), they kicked off their pre-season campaign with a 21-0 win the other week

More common than you (or I) might think apparently...

They're more like temporary wine gardens opened by a local vintner/vineyard. The nibbles they serve are generally very good (and usually "paired" with certain wines). Really nice places and with only one drawback - they're full of ******* Austrians.

Perhaps we could ask that place in Berko to do a "special" one for us.

"The board are working to bring in the players I ask them for" - in a sentence, why it didn't work out with the Pozzo's

As I understand it, Silva identifies what position and what type of players he feels he needs

The DoF then presents Silva with potential candidates and they agree between them which are the most suitable (although DoF has final say).

According to Silva, those names are now agreed on and he's waiting for the board and DoF to get them

Was that not how it worked at Watford? Did Silva simply have players signed for him without any input? I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have been involved at all
