The most worrying thing is when you start to look at clubs that have not been relegated it seems the winners are Celtic followed by Aberdeen - aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhh - both Scottish !!! (they are in Britain - but I expect BP's definition would start with biggest in England means biggest in Britain" :)

You lack ambition. We are that. We are also the biggest club in Hertfordshire. We are also the biggest non-London club in London.

Not actually true, if we are using Everton's method of calculating massiveness.

In 1487 there were a series of games staged that involved Goode Watford Knights of the Realm getting a pigs bladder to St Albans.

The opponents were from the plague infested town of Lutyn-in-the-Mire.

The attendance was reportedly 92,367 goode souls.

Forgive him - he is still stunned that with the return of Tranmere, Everton are back to being the 4th largest side on merseyside

This is an intra-club dispute though, so the PL are a neutral party to any complaint. Them taking it seriously or not doesn't come into it. If Watford believe Everton tapped up Silva and thereby breached PL rules the initiative for any action lies with Watford. The PL aren't going to do it for us.

If Southampton were satisfied with an apology from Liverpool then that was that. Having them on the record admitting inappropriate behaviour is valuable in itself and equally damaging to Liverpool. I suspect Liverpool sweetened the eventual transfer deal too anyway.

PL rules require clubs to go through arbitration to settle a dispute. Watford would be in breach of the rules if they didn't and instead went straight to the High Court. And Watford can't then start further court action once the arbitration process is over if they want extra compensation, unless they have grounds to say something was procedurally wrong with the tribunal decision or it misapplied the law. You can't have two bites of the cherry.

Maybe but I prefer a Pimm's Royale: one measure of Pimms (ps make your own: 2 parts gin, 2 parts red vermouth and 1 part orange curacao), one measure of triple sec (Cointreau is perfectly acceptable) poured over ice/garnish and topped up with ginger ale. Sever with a reasonably "robust" straw (so you can pick out all the fruity goodies).

Do not plant borage in your garden (only in pots) unless you want a garden full of triffids with a couple of years.

  15. Thanks. I didn't know if anyone would agree with me but you seem to have grasped it more or less.

If Gino thinks the PL got it wrong, he will take it further.

    Now read the whole discussion

    To summarise

Silva is a **** and hopefully he will be tapped up by a big club while at Everton

Evertonians are dilusional clinging on to past glory

The top x is as many clubs as it really is plus Everton

Our friend from Everton’s main reason for being on here is his own forum is ****

Our friend from Everton main assertion is that Everton are a great club (assume he is taking the piss) and is mistaking the fact that we havnt banned him yet as some strange form of interest (bit like watching a car crash).

Let’s be honest I couldn’t give a **** if Everton existed / went bankrupt / qualified for Europe / relegated to the championship - they are in the same league as Leeds, Aston Villa , Nottingham Forrest, once great - now not so much

Indeed. But it's not so much the PL getting it wrong as an independent arbitration tribunal which he'll have nominated a panel member to.

Slightly off topic, and involves the other half of the city - but the word "hypocrisy" springs to mind. Must be something about the place up there, where you're allowed to break the rules but god forbid anybody else does............

"...are convinced Borussia have tapped up Brewster by speaking to him without permission and are considering making a complaint to Fifa"

"...are infuriated by the way the Bundesliga club have behaved and have taken what they consider appropriate action, with the possibility of more to come"

"...Liverpool's indignation is evidence of how highly they rate Brewster"

A pity the Goodison mob cannot appoint Christian Titz. Then at the end of the next season we can all say it has gone Titz up.....And hopefully likewise with the snake.

I think Burnsy's reply summed up my attitude very nicely. Thank you @Burnsy. If it's bothering you, though, may I suggest two options: 1. The ignore button 2. If you think you could do a better job moderating the site, maybe you should volunteer your services? Believe it or not, the mods do have lives and can't spend every spare minute trawling through every post on here. If something really bothers you, that's what the "report" button is for, which will flag up a specific post. Now I have to go I'm afraid to get on with actual life - which today involves helping my kids revise everything from Latin grammar to The Black Death, World War One and The Russian Revolution.

This is not strictly true. In English law you can go to litigation without submitting to arbitration first. However the court can take into account a failure to follow process. This means you could win but only receive nominal damages or more likely not receive costs against the other party. All of this carries higher risk and is probably not a preferred option in this case even though Watford allege a fundamental breach of contract.

  26. Pre court protocols. Not structly arbitration, but showing that an attempt has been made to settle the matter mutually. Can just consist of a letter and a response, but if you show yourself unwilling to accept that you have done damages, or if you are seen to be persuing unreasonable damages, it may go against you. If you get to court, there should be good grounds for the disagreement. Otherwise the court may feel its time has been wasted, and even if you win your case, you may find yourself ordered to pay legal costs for both sides because the court beleived you should have accepted a pre court settlement.

I assume UEA is talking about PL requirements though, rather than judicial requirements, because that is what we were talking about.

Intriguing q & it does make you wonder why the HH24 brood are studying GCSE Death.

I vote for the Black Death. It recurred for generations & the 1340s edition took out a third of the population across much of Europe.

The other two rather grim own goals by humanity.

@Sahorn I agree - or rather, assentio- with RookeryDad; up to 60% of European population thought to have perished from the Black Death.
You'll be pleased to know that there have been some lighter topics featuring in the HH24 household too - namely "An Inspector Calls" and glaciation/rivers (zzzzzz to the latter, though - would always choose History over Geography).

The Black Death was indeed a terrible thing. The Blue Plague, however, which came much later, just left people feeling mildly irritated, albeit thankful for the lives they had.

    *fixed*

One the reasons I started to "make my own" was after clearing out my late grandmother's house. We found an unopened bottle of Pimm's (TM) (C) (WTF) from, I *think*, the 50's that was 35% ABV - today's stuff is a paltry 25% ABV - that's taking the p1$$.

In fact the summer tipple of choice chez 'Wood is "Slimms*" (C) (TM) Bwood_Horn's Unicorn Farm (dolphin porn & knock-off drinks) LLP. I make quite a bit of sloe gin (I've got recently into making Patxaran which is more to my tastes) -BUT I'm not actually that keen on it. But I use the steeped berries to make "slyder" (served hot 'n' mulled during cold times), "slerry" and white "splort".

*2 Parts sloe gin, 2 parts dry vermouth and 1 part orange curacao - again usually served as a Slimms Royale.

EDIT: Can I also point out that operating on yourself actually isn't against the law if that's the only thing holding you back from trying it out.

It very much seems that the Hull City draft contract is a complete red herring if it came after their relegation. The core of Gino's argument surely relates to the integrity of the competition being affected, something Everton potentially did by contacting Silva mid-season. How did they find out? Obviously from Silva or his agent. However I doubt his lawyers would support such a disclosure if employment proceedings are already underway with WFC. If anything it has the side-effect of showing he is someone who is willing to look outside his contract.
