For me Suarez is coming across as a bit arrogant. There have been many articles this year saying he wants Champions League football next season. That's a ridiculous jump from the second Spanish division. There are no guarantees he would cut it in La Liga, let alone the Champions League. The Championship is a small but not insignificant step-up from La Liga Segunda, and I hope the plan is for him to be with us next season. Hopefully he doesn't have an idiotic agent in his ear telling him he's a Champions League level forward. He has the potential, but he certainly isn't there yet.

This isn't a blame Watford piece, it's more Zaragoza are using it as an extraordinary reason to scrap the playoffs and promote themselves as a result.

They put forward three proposals on how to end the season. Option 1. Promote Zaragoza; Option 2. Promote Zaragoza; Option 3. Promote Zaragoza.

    You couldn't make it up.

Sorry Zaragoza, but that's football guys!

I'm sure if this had been a normal season and the playoffs had been played at the normal time WFC would have allowed him to stay and play in them for Zaragoza, but unfortunately C19 has put the mockers on that.

Therefore I think that no one can blame us for wanting OUR PLAYER back, whether it is to sell him on or hopefully to be included in our playing squad for the soon to be starting new season.

At least from that it appears there shouldn't be too many hard feelings from his side when (if) he returns to here.

I don’t know a lot about him and not sure if the interest in him is real

Is this a case of an average player with great PR , an average player looking good in a crap division or a great player who somehow has avoided all of the big teams in the world for several years and has spent the last 2 years playing for the Spanish equivalent of Torquay.

I don't know how real the interest from Champions League teams is/was, they seem to rate him, although seem unwilling to pay silly ******** money for him. Signing players from other countries is always a bit of a risk (not least when they're playing in the second division), although perhaps most crucially, he's got the physicality to be able to do well here

Watford appear to be completely justified in refusing to extend the loan of Luis Suarez for a second time. Avispón explained in his post that five players from Fuenlabrada tested positive for Covid-19 and their game against Deportivo de La Corona in the regular Segunda Division season had to be postponed. You will notice in the table that these two teams have played only 41 and not 42 games. Apparently Deportivo made a big fuss and did not want to play the rearranged game because they have already been relegated. The problem is that Fuenlabrada can qualify for the play-offs if they defeat Deportivo in the final game so the play-offs were postponed.

La Liga has now set the dates for the play-offs in the second part of August, but there still appears to some uncertainty about what will happen. Watford had already agreed to a loan extension from 30 June until 5 August. Zaragoza requested another extension for at least another two weeks (or possibly longer), which - with the quarantine restrictions - would have meant that Suarez would not come for pre-season training until this time next month. Understandably, Watford refused the request.

Zaragoza finished in third position in the Segunda Division, but the President of Zaragoza is upset that they will not have their full squad available for the postponed play-offs. He has sent a letter to La Liga, which requested that the play-offs should be cancelled because of the various problems caused by the pandemic and has suggested three alternative options (all of which involve Zaragoza being promoted!).

He's still only 22, which is pretty young for a striker, and he's shown a steady improvement year-on-year.

True that it's difficult to tell his exact level given the questionable standard of La Liga 2. Rafa Mir flopped at Forest earlier in this season but has averaged a similar strike-rate as Suarez since moving to Huesca in the second half of the season. Seeing how long it has taken Cucho to adjust to La Liga after similar-ish performances there is clearly a decent sized jump.

He could turn out to be a Vydra-level player, doing well in the second tier but mostly a bit-part player for mid/lower-mid top tier sides. Or he could be a Danny Ings. He probably won't match his namesake though.

€15m asking price seems a bit low to me though, and yet the article above claims "this price is considered to be too much at this stage" for the teams making inquiries; Villareal and Betis should be able to comfortably afford that for a player of his potential.

Looking over here, players such as Watkins and Maupay, who were probably at a similar age, stage and level to Suarez when moving up a tier will have all gone for more than that. Maupay cost Brighton £20mil and Watkins' release clause this summer is £18mil. Were we to sell Suarez it should be similar. It could well cost us €15m just to get a replacement for him.

Apropos of nothing, but Deportivo won the last game of the regular season against Fuenlabrada with a 95th minute VAR penalty which knocked Fuenlabrada out of the play-offs. Fuenlabrada were leading almost all game before Depor equalised in the 84th minute, madness, a play-off choke to rival Forest

So it's Elche for Suarez's old team and their madman owner
