Matheus Aias of Mirandés is so traumatised by the loss of his first pet when he was a child, a goldfish called Um Dourado, he carries the reel of cine film which has the scaly ones final moments with him at all times. Time to let him go Matheus, embrace the grieving process.

Despite clinging to the past, he also likes to embrace modern technology and is often seen jet-packing in & out of training.

Matheus Aias again, this time Mirandés attacking highlights from October 14th's 2-2 draw with Real Unión.
He doesn't score but does hit the post, hit the keeper, wave his arms about & generally involved in most things. He's the #9.

The first picture shows the players leave the pitch on Sunday after 38 minutes in appalling conditions, the game was abandoned for the day shortly after.
The second picture sees the game resume approximately 24 hours later under blue skies.

It was an average game for Suárez before getting worse when yellow carded for the second time in the 86th minute.

It may just be me, but I have completely lost the plot on this thread with all these super duper graphics on our loan players. I much preferred the simple "Muchos Potentialis played 45 minutes for Estemporasta Studentes on Sunday, scored at both ends and was then sent off for a two footed tackle on Real Penistete's central defender, Ardos Nayles".

I really don't need top know how many times he was dispossessed, attempted a dribble (sic), snorted out of one nostril or how long his balls were.

But other folks may thrive on this sort of information deluge.

    Age thing I guess.

    Carry on.

Two international games featured the dazzling talents of Watford loanees today, Tuesday 16th October.

An African Cup of Nations Group D game between Gambia & Togo, a reverse of last weeks 1-1 draw, saw Sulayman Marreh start for Gambia before being substituted after 80 minutes. 4 minutes before he came off Togo had a player sent off but being down to 10 men didn't stop them nicking a goal 2 minutes into injury time to win 1-0. Gambia sit bottom of the group, winless and just 2 draws to their name, with no chance of qualifying for the finals with 2 games to go. #PrayForMarreh.

The other game was a European U-21 Qualifier between Sweden & Belgium. Dodi Lukebakio started for the lowland nation but played no part in their opening 2 goals on 29 & 40 minutes. Sweden had a player sent off straight after the 2nd goal and Lukebakio scored against the 10 men in the 65th minute before being substituted after 78 minutes. That was the final round of group matches and Belgium came top by 6 points with the Swedes second. Both teams qualify.

All other loanees are packed up in a crate waiting to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world some time soon...

Cucho Hernandez was named as a substitute for Colombia in their 1am kick-off versus Costa Rica.
He made his debut by coming on after 71 minutes with the score tied 1-1.

    CUCHOOOOOOOO!!!

Well well well as the Woodentos once sang. First touch, first goal. 2-1 Colombia.
92 minutes gone and he's got his second. 3-1. That's how you announce yourself on the international scene.

The Colombian league marches on despite the International fixtures.

Over in Medellin Jorge Segura watched from the subs bench as his side, DIM, won 2-0 versus Alianza Petolera. Such was the comfort of his seat he stayed glued to it for the full 90 minutes. Reports saying he was seen on his 'phone playing Machinarium are totally untrue as I've just made it up.

At the moment Envigado are in action against Deportivo Pasto but Eduardo Montenegro is up in the stands watching. Or possibly at home on his Sega Mega Drive playing Sonic The Hedgehog. Wherever he is and whatever he's doing, Envigado aren't missing him as they're currently winning 1-0. The players are enjoying half-time strippers and cigars as I write.

Tomorrow, Friday, sees Fortuna Dusseldorf (Lukebakio) in action in the Bundesliga while over in France and Ligue 2, Troyes will also be in action. Whether Mamadou Mbaye will turn up is doubtful as he's yet to make an appearance for them this season. He must have the Nintendo SNES console, unable to tear himself away from Tetris to earn a living kicking a ball about.

    Exciting innit.

Envigado hung on for a 1-0 win - get in! It's very odd. I've become emotionally attached to most of the teams we have loan players at.
Anyway, El Equipo Naranja are now apparently safe from relegation this season - happy days.

    BUT

this tweet shows next season they're under threat already. This is just mind-boggling...

    https://twitter.com/SimonEdwardsSAF/status/1053057998267039747

    Envigado 1-0 Pasto
Huge win for Envigado as Colombia’s convoluted relegation system means they are completely safe this year but in potentially in big trouble next year. Relegation is calculated over 6 seasons so the points from an excellent 2016 will be wiped off next year.

Two games this evening in Europe featuring clubs with loan players from Watford.

In Ligue 2 across the Channel, Troyes and Sochaux played out a middle of the road game very few people cared about. One person showing no interest whatsoever was Mamadou Mbaye who was once again absent from Troyes' match day squad. If you really want to know, Troyes took the lead in the 41st minute but Sochaux scored after 66 & 70 to claim the points. Troyes sit 11th with the other mob 12th, each on 13 points. Yawn. Reading about that game felt like listening to REO Speedwagon.

Over in Germanyland, hot dog sellers Eintracht Frankfurters were at home to our boy Dodi Lukebakio's Unfortunate Dusseldorf.
Dusseldorf currently sit rock bottom of the Bundesliga and, were it possible, would've sunk even further down after losing 7 (seven) - 1. Dodi came on at half time with the score already 3-0 to the home side. Frankfurters scored another before Lukebakio scored! Get in!! While the whole of Dusseldorf were dancing in the streets, players included, Eintracht nipped down the other end and scored 3 more times. 7-1. 7 bloody 1. A young Serbian scored 5 goals and, just checking the incoming Serbians for Watford next season... nope, it wasn't Filip Stuparevic. Bugger. Dusseldorf stay bottom after losing for the fourth game in a row while Frankfurters sit one place above Bayern Munich in 6th.

Lukebakio is actually having quite a decent season overall, stats wise at least. Anyone want to see a graphic for League, Cup & International games?

Alex Jakubiak started for Bristol Rovers in their 0-0 draw with Oxford. He didn't show up too much in the reports but must have impressed the ref as they had a good chat just before half-time & Alex gave him his contact details. Sweet. So excited by their date later he didn't come out for the 2nd-half, preferring instead to trim his beard and buff his shoes.

Jerome Sinclair was also a starter today and lasted a whole 82 minutes for Sunderland in their away game against Shrewsbury. 1-up when Sinclair looked for a comfy chair to rest his weary limbs, his replacement quickly doubled the goal tally for the Black Cats. That scorer, you ask? Ex-Hornet and tennis ball juggler beyond compare, Mr Luke O'Nien.

Randell Williams was a sub for Wycombe at home to Stunchorpe in a game that looked lost for the Bucks side after going 0-2 down within 7 minutes. They pulled two goals back by the 53rd minute before their keeper was sent off in the 80th. Not to be deterred, Wanderers scored what turned out to be the winner after 90+4 with Williams entering the drama a minute later. Nothing else happened though and WW ran out 3-2 winners, much to everyone's surprise.

Tommie Hoban is still injured and missed Aberdeens trip to Hearts. The home side came out on top in a game with three penalties. Both sides scored one but Hearts fluffed their second with 10 minutes to go and the score remained 2-1 until the final whistle. Even then it didn't change so the sides settled for that scoreline and they all went to the local Maccie D's to bond.

Daniel Bachmann brought his club cushion to sit on on the bench as sub keeper away to St. Mirren. His side ran out 2-1 winners while he took advantage of the tartan blankets in the kit bag to keep warm for the whole game sat next to the gaffer.

Filip Stuparevic was a sub for lowly Serbian side Vozdovac in a game versus 5th placed Mladost. He came on with a minute to go with the score at 1-1 and added a dash of youthful exuberance if nothing else.

Matheus Aias started up front for Mirandes in a 5th v. 4th battle against JRRR Tolkien's most agile hobbit, Athletic Bilbao Baggins. In the 62nd minute and the score at 1-1 he slipped on a precious ring and was no longer seen on the pitch. Mirandes went on to score their second in the 88th minute before having a player red carded 60 seconds later. Like the valiant warriors they are, the dwarven side from the hills of Mirandes in Spain went on to score again 3 minutes into injury time. Bilbao Baggins decided to surrender back to Hobbiton at this point and the ref called time on proceedings. 3-1 to Mirandes. Up the dwarfs!

Obbi Oulare is still not bothering the team sheet due to his long standing hip problem. His Belgian team mates took on bottom of the table Mouscron and gave them a 0-0 draw to reflect on as they took the bus back home. A collective snore from the turnstile operators summed up the afternoons action.

Sulayman Marreh started in a defensive midfield role for Eupen despite having a broken nose and was up against 1st place Genk. They managed to pull a goal back in the 81st minute but Eupen still went down 2-1. Marreh received a yellow card in the last minute and he fashioned it into a little comedy hat which lifted his sides spirits as they headed home still 5th from bottom.

In Colombia Jorge Segura started on the bench for Deportivo Independiente Medellin against the exotically named Jaguares de Cordoba. DIM lit the game up in the 43rd minute with their first of the afternoon but could only add one more (after 93mins) once the big cats from Cordoba were reduced to 10 men on 79 minutes. Segura fancied a stretch of his long legs and sauntered about for the final 8 minutes, though this did leave enough time to be booked for a foul in injury time.

Valber Huerta Jerez played as centre back for Huachipato against Union La Calera in Chile where they ran out 2-0 winners. As is his habit, Huerta played the full 90 minutes without too much fuss.

And that, as they say, is that for Saturday.

'Sunday morning, brings the scores in. It's just a restless feeling watching these sides...'
Anyway, enough of VU & N, time for some more weekend round-ups.

    Morning Kick-Offs

In LaLaLiga Land Getafe were away to Rayo Vallecano in 1 of 3 morning kick-offs involving our loanees. Dimitri Foulquier is our man in Getafe and he started on the right side of midfield where, amazingly, he scored the opening goal - get in! Vallecano were so disorientated by Foulquier scoring his first of the season they quickly put through their own net to make it 2-0. Briefly coming to their senses however the home side pulled a goal back 6 minutes later to leave it 2-1 to Getafe with 17 to go. That's how it remained and Foulquier played the full game, managing to avoid picking up any of the 11 cautions handed out. Vallecano's Oscar Trejo was a greedy mite though and left the stage in injury time with his 2 yellows. Getafe currently sit comfortably mid-table.

In LaLaLiga 2 - The Sequel, Pervis Estupinan was an unused sub for Mallorca against Extremadura. After an hour Pervis looked on as his side took the lead before the day got even better for the Island side as an opposing defender, Aitor, was sent off by the ref to reserve him a place on the beach. But it seems Mallorca decided to collectively hit the beach early themselves as Extremadura equalised in the 4th minute of injury time to leave the game drawn 1-1. More cards in this game with 11 yellows (2 for Aitor) and a straight red for Mallorca's Baba Mohammed in the 96th minute. Mallorca are 6th in the table before the afternoon kick-offs.

Elsewhere in the Mediterranean, home side Ibiza put Marbella into a trance like state with their fancy moves in the Segunda Division B game between the sides. Kingsley Fobi must have been givin' it large last night though as he remained on the bench for the hosts. Ibiza ran out easy 4-0 winners for only their third victory of the season and if you think I was joking about fancy moves, check out the 3rd goal (Rodado's second). Ibiza sit 2 places above relegation after the morning games.

    Goal 1, 6mins; https://twitter.com/Ibizaud_en/status/1053958018126282752
    Goal 2, 9mins; https://twitter.com/Ibizaud_en/status/1053958480699252736
    Goal 3, 56mins; https://twitter.com/Ibizaud_en/status/1053970781099749376
    Goal 4, 72mins; https://twitter.com/Ibizaud_en/status/1053974455406522368

    Afternoon Kick-Offs

LaLiga 2 side Gimnastic were away to Lugo at 3pm with Luis Suarez Charris unable to find a place among the 18 selected for the visitors. He's missing out so often as he's the 19th best player at the club I expect. Lugo took the lead just before half-time with a bread & butter finish for Carlos Pita and that's how the game finished. Gimnastic (Nastic to their friends) remain at the foot of the table, 3 points from safety.

Three games in Group 3 of Segunda Division B involved clubs Watford have players loaned to. Ejea invited Cornella to their place and Matheus Santana was named as sub. As hard as I try, I can muster zero enthusiasm for Ejea and Santana. Ejea. Boring word. And Matheus Santana looks like the dullest dentist you're ever likely to encounter. Today he failed to get on the pitch, just give up mate and go back to filling cavities. Final score? 0-0. Surprise surprise.
fucam-U213734463482LO--624x385@La Verdad-LaVerdad 2.jpg Matheus Santana will see you now.

Williams Velasquez of Sabadell welcomed Teruel (who included Juan Camilo 'The Tank' Becerra in their ranks) as well as the 2,068 spectators to the Estadi de la Nova Creu Alta. Velasquez was possibly a sub while Becerra started up front. Sabadell seem to have had the better of the first-half and had a goal disallowed 28 minutes in. The second-half had them on top still and their pressure told when Felipe Sanchon scored from a hotly disputed penalty. 1-0 with 30 to go. As I follow this game live the most intriguing aspect is whether I can find out if Velasquez is actually on the bench or not before the whistle goes for full-time. What a hollow and vacuous life I lead. Duran of Teruel was sent off for a second yellow after 75 minutes. (Still no word of the subs). Sabadell make sure of the points by scoring their second with just 2 minutes to go. They've also now made all three substitutions with no mention of Velasquez. Is he there at all? 2-0 is the final score and Sabadell move into the top half of the table while Teruel plummet towards the relegation places. I have it on good authority (@CESinformacion) Williams Velasquez was not on the bench. *Laughs inwardly*

Hercules hosted Badalona and the home side had Jaime Alvarado sitting in the stands twiddling his thumbs. Now, I'm no historian but I'm pretty sure the Labours of Hercules didn't include the slaying of Badalona but that's exactly what they're trying to do. First goal, 62 minutes in and that was that. Not so much a slaying, more of an attack with a plastic spoon but a win is a win is a win - especially if it takes you back to the top of the table. 9 games in, 9 goals scored and they sit top. Wow. Bringing the fun back to fundamentally missing out on exciting football. Go Hercules!

Back up the divisions to LaLiga and Cucho Hernandez started for bottom of the table Huesca at home against Espanyol. Ooh, Huesca hit the post 20 minutes in. Vamos Huesca! Damn it. Borja 'Julio' Iglesias scores for Espanyol and gets the 17 away supporters to join him in a chorus of 'Begin The Beguine' after it was reviewed by VAR. ****. 1-0 at half-time. It seems Cucho is so upset at the teams plight he's curled up into the foetal position inside the kit box. He's not coming out for the second-half and is replaced by the club captain, Gonzalo Melero. Oh dear. 'Julio' is now singing an encore after scoring his and Espanyol's 2nd with VAR involved once more. Still half an hour to go. Despite 10 added minutes (thank you VAR) the game ended 2-0. Huesca really struggling and remain bottom. Cucho remains curled up. Bad times.

Right, that's yer lot. Go and do something that involves world peace and I'll see you in a couple of days.

Point of order - 16th Place is a relegation play off position, only the bottom four are relegated automatically and then only if there's a team with sufficient ground grading and financial standing to replace them (which there won't be). Eivissa now stand four places above relegation, despite Fobi's best efforts.

    League 1 again. Really?

Alex Jakubiak was on the bench as Bristol Rovers entertained Wimbledon. Rovers first was scored 11 minutes before the break through Ed Upson and Will Nightingale put through his own net after 53 minutes to make it 2-0. Wimbledon had a goal disallowed 10 minutes later and as part of a double change Jakubiak came on after 68 minutes for Rovers. The game finished with no further action. 2-0 Bristol Rovers.

Jerome Sinclair stayed in the starting XI when Sunderland travelled to Doncaster. Chris Maguire scored the only goal of the game for Sunderland just after half-time. Lee Cattermole had a goal ruled out for offside, again for Sunderland, after the hour mark & was substituted shortly after. Sinclair played the whole game.

Wycombe Wanderers played Rochdale at home and for the first time in a while Randell Williams was not in the starting XI or named on the bench. Wycombe took the lead 10 minutes in. 1-0 at half-time and for those who have bought tickets, here's the tweet telling you if your ticket is a winner or not. I'm going to guess not. https://twitter.com/wwfcofficial/status/1054823308955402250. The Beast, aka Ade Akinfenwa, doubled Wanderers lead on 67 minutes. The Unspellable, aka Fred Onyedinma, scored their third 5 minutes later. Basically, this turned out to be a walk in the Adams Park for Wanderers. Final score; 3-0 Wycombe.

Sunderland sit 3rd with a game in hand, Wycombe 14th and Bristol Rovers lower down in 19th.

The squad & manager applaud as they make a presentation to departing Sporting Director Andrew Howard. Randell is in the warm-up gear, his match shirt is hanging in his space and he sits there, arms folded, looking like he's had shards of glass inserted beneath his toenails. Or perhaps he was upset they'd turned the TV off just as Eastenders was starting.

The team has changed formation in the last couple of games, going to 4-4-2 after playing 4-3-3 in 2017/18 and the first block of fixtures this season. It seems Randell is the one being sacrificed. Still, at least he looks happy to be there.

Jerome Sinclair gets a fair bit of criticism, he was even being singled out by some Sunderland supporters after a game recently as being more useless than the very useless players that day. So it's encouraging to read two positive views of his performance against Doncaster last night even though he wasn't on the scoresheet.

Yes, they're from the same site but they're from different authors and it sounds like he's really putting the work in. Some twitter posts quoted also single him out for special praise.
