    See posts 3, 10 and 12.

Pity Kirby and Taylor weren't playing instead of Sir Clive yesterday given his aberration. Wasn't it at the Holte End that Rocket Ronnie had his infamous miss?

Big game tonight and I think France are without their captain Renault Five or something like that.

Yes - was re-arranged to this morning.

Germans took the lead as well.

Few chances for both sides in this game.

    Spain out on penalties too.

Certainly does her defensive duties well (like most of the team)

We must be the most organised side in this tournament.

Nothing flashy but getting the job done so far.

As usual*, second best footballing team but the best finishers. They've got too much talent to need to play hoofball, but they do it anyway.

    *except against Scotland

Dutch were woeful v Sweden as well. But for some extremely poor Swedish finishing then they'd be out.

With our potent strikers, if we get the chances they gave Sweden then we'll score at least 3.

Good both defensively and going forward. Can be a bit gung-ho in midfield though with the odd misplaced pass that can get us into trouble.

Slightly concerned that we aren't playing as well as we could but no doubting they are definitely giving their all in terms of fitness and not afraid to put bodies on the line. Fantastic result last night

We're a difficult watch with regards to attacking play but whoever we're up against don't get too many shots do they!

Bronze does look a great athlete and thought Jodie Foster-Taylor took her chance well.

I think our anthem is a wretched piece but impressed with the whole team singing it loud and proud, unlike the mumbling men!

What time is the Netherlands game do we know yet?

  24. KelsoOrn

I think we should start with Taylor and then bring Foster on as an 'impact sub' after 60 mins ...

Some geometry!! What Jodie Taylor has shown with her excellent one-on-one finishing is the common sense of trying to beat the keeper in three dimensions rather than one.

There's a triangle with the striker at one corner and the two goalposts at the others. In the triangle is the keeper who is at a point on the shortest line across that triangle which she/he is trying to defend. So, if the striker tries to beat the keeper on the ground she/he has to do so at a point along that rather short line. Tricky. A straight line is one-dimensional.

As soon as the striker gives the ball a bit of air (either a little (a dink) or a lot (a lob)) then she/he is utilising the space in front of, behind and above the keeper i.e. a wedge shaped volume a bit like a slice of a cake. This volume is three dimensional and provides a lot more options to beat the keeper and makes it much harder for the keeper to defend.

    Makes sense to me anyway!!

Perhaps you might run this past Sir Clive?

Failing that crayon a picture of a goal for him!

I watched a bit of England v France ... I tried to get into it honest but after about the fifteenth misplaced pass under no real pressure I had to give up.

Not that I'm against women's football (on the contrary, my daughter plays in Australia) but as a spectator sport it just doesn't hit the spot.

You have to make a certain adjustment, as you do when dropping down two or three divisions (as I did when moving from watching Norwich to Cambridge United and from Chelsea to Watford, but there's lots to admire in the defending and shooting if not in the hoofball that England go in for. (Millie Bright apparently plays in midfield as well as central defence, but she's the worst offender.)
