January Wish List

I certainly wouldn't disagree but I think some of the above are coming to the end of their contracts. The first two someone mentioned in another thread as being out of contract in May 2018. I think Holebas has declared already!

    My wish list for January.
    Outs;
    Sinclair (loan)
    Okaka( loan) i.e to Udinese
    Watson (sell) respectively
    Djedje (sell)
Capoue(if the right offer came in)
I'd love to see britos and Holebas leave too! But I doubt they will until end of the season.
    Ins;
A target man i.e Slimani ... Although personally I'd prefer like Gabbiandini or Ings
Ranocchia(we need better centre half's) worked with sliva at hull. Personally I like that Alfie Mawson from Swansea, Although he'd be overpriced.
    Miguel Layun or Ali Adnan.
I doubt we'd get these these calibre of players but in my ' wish list' I'd go for jankto, ljajic or brahimi zielinski.

Britos has his moments but getting rid of our only left footed centre back would be madness. Kabasele looks half the player when he's on the left of a three. I think the ideal back three for Silva is Kabasele, Kaboul and Britos which we may get to see around April time when Kaboul is fit and the other two have served some kind of ban for sneezing in the direction of a ref.

Just seen Bristol City dump Man Utd out of the Carabao cup (don't feel quite so bad losing to them now), but Joe Bryan really stood out. He plays left wing back and looked terrific. Only 24 and has come through the ranks at Bristol.

He was very good. A lot of people have been raving about him all season, so tonight wasn’t a one off. I would imagine a lot of Prem teams will be eyeing him up, even before tonight.

And why would he move from a club which has every chance of being promoted to the PL? This sort of stuff used to really annoy us when we were a Championship club. Smacks of arrogance.

Nothing about my post was arrogant. Just simply stated that tonight wasn’t a one off and I have no doubt a lot of Prem teams will be/are probably interested in him.

However, I will respond to your comment.

If a Prem team comes calling, he may well stay, be loyal to Bristol City and try and get them promoted. If he does, good for him. However, more often than not, players choose to leave the championship and join a Prem team because, it is a better career move (more exposure etc), more money for him (and his agent) and a chance to actually play in the Prem and be televised worldwide.

Staying at Bristol City might land him in the Prem but it might not. In my opinion, it is a risk if he waits until the summer to see what happens. The teams that needed a LB (like us) in January, might already have that position filled by then, and therefore he is no longer needed. Of course there might be/probably will be Prem teams that need a LB in the summer, so he might get a move to the Prem anyway if Bristol City don’t make it.

Using Watford for example, we are in desperate need of a LB, come the summer we might not be if we sign one in January. So if Watford did come calling I would imagine he would be saying to himself (and his agent in his ear), more money, more exposure and chance to play for a Prem team that is moving in the right direction and beginning to establish themselves in the Prem. Replace Watford with any other Prem team bar a few, and I would think his thought process would be the same, no matter which Prem club it is (unless it’s newcastle, they are proper rubbish).

Maybe he is not a money hungry player and actually cares about Bristol City. In which case, good for him, football needs a few more loyal players and if rejects a move to the Prem (not even us) then fair play to the lad. However, history tells us that most players jump at the chance to test themselves in the Prem.

You stated that in a thread entitled “January wish list” which is about players we might want to sign in January. That’s what struck me as arrogant.

I still maintain that, if the situations were reversed, we would be really irritated at Bristol City fans talking about their team, or other PL clubs, picking up our best players, especially halfway through a season. Indeed, I imagine that those sort of statements were made about Abdi, Vydra etc a few years ago (I wasn’t on the forum then so I don’t know). I think we would regard it as arrogant - perhaps especially from a medium sized club which, historically, isn’t much “bigger” (if at all) than us.

I quite agree that a player would want to advance his career but your argument would be much stronger if Bristol City were mid-table and had no chance of going up. Put yourself in the shoes of their supporters: would you cheerfully wave goodbye to one of your best players on the basis that they were advancing their career with your team sitting just 4 points away from automatic promotion?

What Bristol City think about it is irrelevant. If we want him, we’ll get him.

I agree with you entirely about the show being on the other foot. Many times we were irritated at teams coming in for our players in January or the summer window. If I was a Bristol City fan I would be ticked at Prem teams coming in for our best player but as we know, that is all part and parcel of football nowadays.

No I wouldn’t wave him cheerfully goodbye, I would burn every poster I had of him.

We have been looking at Samuel Grandsir from Troyes, young winger.

You want a target man but you'd prefer Gabbiadini or Ings who are the complete opposite of target men?

We should definitely try and sign Joe Bryan based on all of our scouting of one game. Or in my case, the short highlight of his goal which was on loop on the news this morning.

    £20m should do it.

Udinese have got a couple of gems in Jankto and Barak, the latter in particular looking like an incredible signing. I'd feel bad for Udinese but if we could steal one of those two then that would be superb business.

The old town centre is picturesque but walk 15 mins to the east & it gets a bit ropey.

Hopefully the rip-roaring success of Richarlison will more than compensate for the lack of impact made by 3 of our other most expensive signings (Gray, Perreyra and Success) and encourage Gino to continue to splash the cash.

I take your point but feel Pereyra has received a terrible injury and is still finding his way back. I do fear that he may not have the mental capacity now for our league and be more suited to La Liga, but I hope he proves me wrong.
I think Gray deserves more time, whether he gets it is another matter.
Success: there's a player in there we know but he needs to apply himself and lock up the Baileys and certain parts of his anatomy!

Was the injury really that terrible? I understood he'd have been back within 3 months if Gino hadn't sanctioned a treatment which meant the recovery time was much extended.

I thought it was serious and as you say Gino went for a longer term philosophy*.
However, irrespective of the severity,RP appears to be reluctant to dig in at present. He is very slight and if he has emotional scars he may need longer to overcome these.
I may well be talking tosh but I like him as a player and wish him a speedy return to form.
    *Take note Andy Murray.
