Spitting on a 14 year old girl, because her dad reminded him, without abuse, that Liverpool had lost to Man Utd.

Has to be sacked by Sky, surely? How hard can it be to replace him?

What a dismal state of affairs.
I assume the man with the phone was driving at the time,so he's up the creek too.
Sacked by the time I have my supper tonight I expect.

Would be surprised. Sky are living off the Carragher/Neville bantz thing.

Then again, they are apparently thinking of bringing Andy Gray back for next season.

    Good grief!
    Surely not?

  8. He's been suspended by Sky - which could mean anything really.

No word on the driver who apparently thought filming whilst driving was the right thing to do.

Carragher was a **** and spitting is vile. But I have to say the bloke who goaded him and filmed while driving is just as much of a **** - what a delightful example for his 14 year old daughter.

Spitting is disgusting, and someone like carragher should be setting an example.

The horrible little Scrote should never work in football again.

For me it's as serious as the incident which ended Ron Atkinsons pundit career

Wow, I haven't had a rant for ages.

Probably simply trying to make a shouted point in falsetto Scouse which inevitably requires a bit of spittle being sprayed about.

What a complete and utter tosser. Give him a boot in the non-existent cojones Troy.

I'm pretty sure Andy Gray was suspended by Sky before sacking him a few days later. I guess that suspending him during an enquiry is the easy bit, the enquiry probably involves HR and a lawyer to run through his contract before they decide what happens next. I expect that he will be sacked by the end of the week.

What would have happened had that just been your average Liverpool fan spitting at a Man U one ?

Both men involved hardly come out of this well.

He's Angus Deayton'd himself so any scathing analysis will have this incident as a response.

He'll no doubt show up on Bein Sports with Gray and Keys.

I only briefly watched the video, but aside from holding his phone whilst driving, the guy's goading seemed mild. "2-1 lad" or similar. In no way is spitting on his daughter justifiable by such z-grade bantz.

What's weird though is that the driver sounds positively Scouse to me, or is that just what all northerners sound like to my delicate, Southren earholes?

If Carragher is to be believed he was repeatedly abused whilst driving, no excuse but this 14 year old thing is really a silly angle, the Dad didn't care that she was 14 when setting his example. Both to blame tbh.

Thought the same thing myself about his accent. Maybe he was a fan of the other Mersey team, Tranmere.

You’ve got a point. He should have let her drive while he did the bantz thing.;)

I really don't think Sky will keep him on, apparently his contract was worth 1 million a year, that's a lot of money for someone who spits! I have never ever thought of spitting let alone at another individual!

Ron Atkinson, Rodney Marsh, Andy Gray and Andy Keys were sacked for verbally insulting people, spitting is worse imo!

I’ve seen the video. The guy just wound down his window and only said. “2-1 mate, unlucky lad”.

Carragher then just spat a mouthful of snot through his open window on to his daughter, who was most definitely an innocent victim in all of this.

What a disgusting creature this guy is. So pleased it was filmed as there is no doubt what went on.

His version of the guy giving him loads of verbal abuse was a complete fabrication. No doubt he didn’t know he was being filmed and thought it would a case of his word over the other guy.

He will hopefully be sacked now. The only avenue open to him after this would be TalkSport, as they take absolutely anyone.

The only real positive is that hopefully he won’t appear on sky any longer. Never enjoyed listening to him as a pundit.

Surely the dad filming will get punished for driving whilst using a phone?

Daughter appears to try to stop him before he starts goading. Feel sorry for her being in that household, didn't exactly seem sympathetic at first.

Disgusting from Carragher, I hate people spitting in pubic and at a person is utterly revolving. Didn't he once throw a coin in to the crowd? Plenty of other ex footballers Sky can replace him with. Can't see him staying but we'll see

He was lucky he didn't spit at a real nutter. He drove in front of him and had to stop at lights. The driver could easily have got out of his car and started something or just smashed his car into him. Kenneth Noye springs to mind.

When you're a public figure, you just cannot do that sort of thing. Everything gets filmed these days. His career is now probably over, but he has only himself to blame. His reaction was not measured. It was disgusting.

It was only a bit of banter, nothing more than that. Why didn't he just ignore it. Leave his window shut. Do not get involved.

He had many ways to deal with it, but he decided his best course of action was to wind down his window and spit flem at the driver's 14 year old daughter, sitting in the passenger seat. What a real hero this guy is.

The verbal abuse he claimed happened on the motorway leading to the incident.. and he must have known he had been filmed because he was reacting to the footage?

I thought I'd watch it before replying because I've only heard about it verbally today, and I honestly thought I'd be typing that the bloke deserved it and that Carragher didn't know the girl was there etc etc. Now I've watched it I was completely wrong. There was only the slightest of banter and the girl was quite clearly visible to him in the front passenger seat. He deserves everything that's coming to him. What an utter t*t.

I don't believe a word of what he says.

It was clear from the filming that the driver only just spotted Carragher. It appeared to be the first altercation and wasn't on the motorway. You see Carragher winding down his window......and even if there was some sort of micky taking earlier, which is doubtful, does that justify spitting?

Did the driver say anything aggressive? He was just having a bit of fun with a celebrity. When you lose you've got to take it on the chin, and just smile back. Say "Yes....well done mate. We'll get you back next time" or something along those lines. Just laugh it off.

It wouldn't even cross my mind to spit at someone, and I suspect the majority of civilised people wouldn't think of doing that either. He must have seen his daughter......and he just gobbed at her. Why would anyone do that?

......and seriously, do you really think he knew he was being filmed? If so, why would he spit. There's no chance he would do that if he knew it would get to the public domain.

The guy is a vile creature who has been seen in his true colours. I hope it ruins his career and he deserves everything that's coming to him.

Nothing justifies spitting.. but the comment i read was referring to earlier incidents on the motorway. Havent seen anything referring to the bloke who did the filming?
You also cant know for sure whether it was the first altercation unless you was in the car with him?

He may not have known he was being filmed at the time.. but his statement was made after the footage had come out so obviously by then he did know.

  33. hornetboy1

It doesn't matter if it was the first altercation or not. You heard the conversation, and it was as innocent as it could have been. All he said was the score. Does Carragher spit in Jeff Stelling's face when he mentions the result? Of course not.

He wasn't abusive, he didn't swear or wasn't aggressive. It was just an innocent bit of light hearted banter. Carragher is a footballer, and is well use to that style of football chat. It's common, and goes on all the time. On the street, in the office, even in the home.

His reaction was extreme without provocation.

It looked from the film that it was the first interaction. He seemed to have just spotted him. He beeped once and had some banter when they both wound down the windows. Had there been previous between the two, I doubt it was verbal, as both had their windows up. The level of what was said is what I would call the first stage. Normally you say something quite innocent, then it escalates and gets a bit heated. This was clearly at an initial level as he was only saying the score.

If he can't take a bit of gentle teasing then he should walk well away from football, and life in general come to think of it.

Whether he was telling the truth or not or whether it justifies his actions (clearly it doesnt) he was referring to earlier incidents.. he wasnt talking about "the guy giving him loads of verbal abuse" as you said.
He knew he'd been filmed when his made his statement because it was about the footage.

Sorry but you got these parts wrong.

God I forgot how pedantic people are on here. It's tiresome having to type out exact quotes all the time. I write like I would talk in a conversation, not like I'm in a court room.

You can stick up for Carragher as much as you like, but I will continue to think he's a vile creature.

Just so there's no more misunderstandings, here is the report with footage, from the BBC website.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43376262

Carragher is only remorseful now because he has no choice. It's there for all to see and he cannot defend it. Had it not been filmed, I doubt he would say a thing about it, only deny anything happened. If anyone thinks that's the first time he's done that sort of thing, I think it would be na*ve. It's a habitual reaction, but this time he's got caught on camera.

I'm confident Sky will sack him, just as they did over Keys and Gray, with their sexist "did you smash it" comment,

Carragher is a celebrity and represents SkySports. No way will they tolerate being dragged through his murky pond.
