[NOT HAPPENING] Jack Rodwell

The wobby’s latest article doesn’t exactly scream that Doucoure is ‘definitely’ staying put. Rather that he would be for sale to highest bidder if bids start at £45m.

 

How you've described the situation is how I read the article.

I think it may suit WFC as a business to sell Doucoure now or in January because his contract ends at the end of next season.
Any player going into the final year of his contract will see his value depreciate.

By selling him now or in January for a minimum £45m would mean being able to strengthen the side over all with possibly 2 x £20m players or maybe 3x £15m players. Providing of course the money is reinvested.

The timing of this supposed valuation is interesting too.
Have WFC got deals lined up to use any money from Doucoure and Richarlison to strengthen and are looking to nudge any suitors of the former into action?

From a buying perspective, £45m now gets you a solid midfielder who can chip in with goals on the basis of one good season.
If he isn't bought now but has a decent start then come January you'll be looking at £55m to £60m minimum as I'm sure more than one club will look to come in for him.

 

This is good news. Hopefully it means that Javier is happy with the teenage centre back from Brentford being the hub of our team for the first half of the season.

 

He sounds great. Is he even better than the one we got from Stevenage ?

If I had a car or could even be bothered if I did, I would have possibly considered driving him to wherever he has gone myself.

 

Similar to what I posted in the Reyes thread but if he is a free agent and we need cover in CM, I don’t get why we don’t just offer jack a short term deal 2/3 seasons. Supposedly (if you believe what you read on twitter) he did quite well for us during his trial but the move broke down because Doucoure signed a new deal. If he impressed that much then, and again, supposedly passed his medical at the club before the move broke down, why don’t we just blinkin’ we’ll sign him.

Subbed after an hour for Blackburn reserves in the cup at Muff last night. Mowbray said "Jack Rodwell did fine and he'll only get stronger. At the moment he won't get in our team but he has to try and compete [for a place]."
Clearly the right call to let him go. He'd have never played for us.
