I think anyone hoping for something other than a combination of 2 from Kabasele, Cathcart or Dawson to be our starting CB’s next season will be disappointed.

They will be seen as adequate for the Championship when the alternative means spending money.

Totally disagree. Adequate simply isn't good enough. There will be a minimum of one central defender incoming.

Still maintain there’s no chance he goes there. Certainly not on loan.

Hardly coming from a top source either!

It’s not my opinion - but the feeling is likely, in hindsight, that the CB’s weren’t good enough for the PL. I expect they accept that.

Given the drop in standard and the fact we will be watching what we spend carefully, I don’t have faith in the owner or his cronies to not think they are adequate given the drop in standard.

As I say, it’s not an opinion I subscribe to. But my faith in their ability to spot the issues at the back are zilch.

I think they may have upgraded a CB or 2 had we stayed up. I’m not at all convinced they will now.

I'm sure they're heading in the right direction, recruiting wise.

Dawson, Kabs and Cathcart were no more than comical after the restart. Well Dawson did show in a couple of matches that he could be of use. That will be looked at. I can see both Kabs and Cathcart going.

    Have faith :D

Wouldn’t begrudge him going or even mind that much as long as the loan fee + future transfer adds up to that £40m benchmark.

Books need to be balanced and that would go a long way towards it.
As stated above though, it’d be nice if we could include an option to have him back if we’re promoted at the first opportunity.

I think they will rely on Willmott and the West Ham guy as cover.

Just cannot see us getting a shed load of players in unless we make big money from player sales.

As for Sarr - well if we aren't going to get a fee for him let's keep him.

Players on higher wages we need to get rid of first !

I agree. It's the worst possible deal to just loan him to a club outside of our control. That's just ridiculous.

There will be no issue in being able to sell him. He's already on the radar of a lot of clubs. Unless Palace commit to £60m at the end of the loan, i.e something outstanding, which of course they wouldn't be able to do, then I just don't see what's in it for Watford.....apart from being absolutely shafted again.

We lose one of our best players and get very little money for him to reinvest or pay off debts. We either sell big, or if that doesn't happen then we loan to Udinese or keep him for ourselves. Of course the player's wishes need to be catered for to a degree, but at the end of the day, Watford hold all the cards.....or bloody well should do. He's under a long contract.

If a top six club comes in for him, then it's a bit of a different story, but if it's Palace.....seriously, it's so early in the transfer window, you don't just loan him to the first club that asks.

Agree. If the Pozzo's want us to get promoted this season, why would we want Sarr playing for a rival team in 2021/22? Much more sensible to sell/ loan him to a Champions League challenger who will have the adequate £££ to make the deal mutually beneficial.

Great deal for CP. Sell Zaha, get a much younger and potentially better replacement, and have a pile of cash leftover.

Just bumped in to a Watford fan on Saunton Sands beach in Devon who told me this news. Palace? Surely he can do better than that but equally it’s a Twitter rumour from some bloke I’ve never heard of so not going to start worrying quite yet

Lovely beach to surf. Spent a few years of my yoof in Woolacombe, selling ice cream and living the surf bum life. Never got transfer news on the beaches during my time there, so that’s a nice development.

That guy makes stuff up, he literally told someone last week he made something up to annoy some Wolves fans. Plus he said we were paying Struber's release clause two weeks ago.

Kaveh Solekhol on SSN just now said that United still expect to sign Sancho but the 2 backup options are Sarr and Coman from Bayern.

He likely has no source for the info but he said that it’s his understanding that we won’t sell for any less than £50m. On a long term deal that has no release clauses and is a player we want to keep if possible.

He said that we have no plans to actively sell him and it would have been out of the question had we stayed up. Was seen as a player who we could have doubled our investment on and had a £70m+ price tag - but relegation will see us accept he may leave - but reiterated that it won’t be for less than £50m and any story of Watford accepting him leaving on loan are inaccurate.

In addition to the above, I wouldn’t be massively surprised that if Sancho does go to United, that Dortmund come for Sarr. He’s just the type of player they go for and he would flourish there.

Sell Sancho for £100m, bank £50m and then spend the other half on Sarr. Seems a good deal to me.

I can see Sarr being loaned or selling for 40m-50m, so much alleged interest for Sarr can’t see him going to palace

Unless plan is loan to palace for a year, when they get relegated and we get promoted he comes back to us

No way do Watford loan him without being substantially paid for doing so.

No chance are we going to loan Sarr out to Palace, it does not make sense unless they have an obligation to buy next season and the price would need to be substantial and I doubt Crystal Palace will pay it. If we are going to loan him I assume it would likely be to Udinese. Surely we wait and see if we get a big transfer offer later on in the window, if we don't get one then he is more beneficial playing for us than loaning him as I am under the impression that his wages are not massively high.

Poor sod. I hope he's got enough to scrape by in these challenging times.

I would be surprised if he wasn't one of our higher earners tbh. Considering we paid a record fee for him. If he's not, he needs to find a better agent!

I do tend to agree considering Gray is on 70k a week and the likes of Cleverley around 50k!

I just thought I read somewhere he wasn't on as much as as of the others though.

Palarse could not afford to buy his left foot. Unless they sell Zaha for an inordinate sum which seems unlikely now. Newcastle's summer spree will be limited to Lidl signings now that the HR abusers have pulled out them and Ashley.

reason I could imagine loaning him is that if he desperate to play in a big league but we want to keep him long term might make sense to loan him out for a year then reevaluate, rather than forcing him to play championship football.

interesting on one of the crap websites it’s now reporting Liverpool have been told they can have him for 50m, it’s also reported that we have actually officially put him up for sale, i suspect that 90% of rumours regarding Sarr are rubbish and just getting air because there isn’t much happening in the transfer market.

Dawson was responsible for at least as many goals conceded as saved/scored since the restart. He and Kabasele were all over the place in the middle, with the full backs either side hardly any better. Masina was a like a deer caught in the headlights half the time and Femenia spent the other half chasing all over the pitch like a headless chicken.

Dawson and Kabasele may well be Championship standard but whole squad would likely feel the confidence benefit of having someone in to strengthen the pack along with Wilmot. Dawson, Kabasele, Cathcart, Wilmot and one new, quality starter I'd say would be the main contingent.

The defence will benefit greatly from having a system and formation and staying with it. Musical managers affects that part of the squad more than any other IMO, in large part because the midfield has to think too much, leaving the back line in the midst of frequent stampedes.
