Why are so many of you continually saying players are too good for us and that they will have to move on to better teams?

If we want to progress we should be looking to hold on to our better players, after all we don't need to sell them anymore!

So why should we? Lets keep them and bring in even more, sod selling them on!!!

It happens to teams bigger than us, look at Liverpool and Coutinho and Arsenal and Sanchez. Yes neither of them have moved, yet, but they want to and inevitably will. There is alway a bigger club, no matter who you are.

There is no shortage of talent to replace any of our players or managers should they move on. The standard of player that we're able to attract has risen every season - it wasn't that long ago that people (including me) were concerned about losing Abdi, Fezzi and Vydra.

We should sell them and allow them to move on, when it's right for both sides, because acting in good faith like that encourages others to follow in their footsteps.

Additionally players will always want to move for clubs like Man United, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona and yes, even Arsenal! It’s a natural combination of football ambition and, often, wages. What our current status means is that we are far less likely to lose players to the likes of a West Ham, Everton or Southampton than we would have been in the past.

Not to mention the bids we turned down for Deeney and Ighalo. I no longer consider us a selling club as a matter of necessity.

As far as I can recall... The Pozzo's are yet to sell a player they wanted to retain. Hogg, perhaps, but he wanted to move north.

No player should ever be allowed to leave Watford again. I don't care if we have to lobotomise them or put them in the Chokey. Once a Hornet, Always a Hornet.

Insert "Except Jerome Sinclair" after the word "player"

It's really not that complicated. Spurs offer 40 mil for Charly at the end of the season, and, presented with the chance to play champions league football and earn £100,000 a week, he wants to go. Do you:

    A. Take the money and reinvest, illustrating to other young talented players that turning down a side as big as Ajax for Watford is a good career move as champ league teams in 'The Greatest League in the World' tm will always be interested in high performing prem players. Aid the long term finances of the club, and motivate the other talented players in our squad to push for their own big-money moves through good performances.

    B. Offer him £120,000 a week to keep him here, which he gladly accepts. Upset the rest of the squad who subsequently also feel deserving of a massive wage rise. Face the dilemma of risking long term financial stability to keep the squad happy, or alternatively risk an unhappy, unmotivated squad wondering why they're earning 10x less than a 21YO.

    C. Refuse to sell, or to offer him comparative wages to those being offered elsewhere. Either he goes on strike and refuses to play (colloquially known as 'A Williamson haha hows league 1 treating ya') or lacks motivation as he feels we're below him. His agent works double-time to whip up constant speculation about his future, which destabilizes the rest of the squad.

Even Spurs themselves face losing a couple of their best players at the end of this season. So do Arsenal. Unless you have a sovereign wealth fund backing your club, then you can't hand out massive new contracts every time a player is offered a move elsewhere. I don't particularly fancy us becoming another Birmingham, paying Nikola Zigic almost 35% of our total wage bill in the Championship.

I wouldn't be averse to this! I have a funny feeling he'll still be here next season though. Turning down Ajax for two successive windows hardly suggests he's in a hurry to move to a massive club, and he seems pretty settled and happy.

The guy Ajax signed instead of him is no slouch either, and is basically a RW/Left footed version of Charly. Both David Neres and Hirving Lozano will be at top 4 cubs within a couple of years.

  18. I think he will still be here next season

He's not going to move sideways - he's already at a top 10 club. When he goes it will be to a big European club and they tend to buy finished players

When a club of our sort becomes established as mid table, you would expect to see the number of (significant) transfers increase.

Assuming regular European football is not seen as a realistic option, the income from transfers would become a more important revenue stream than the marginal increase in prize money for finishing, say, 7th rather than 11th.

This seems to have been the case at Southampton & maybe also at Udinese. Sherlock, please advise.

This places a lot of pressure on the scouting system with the constant need to backfill but a track record as an effective ‘shop window’ club can help to attract talent.

There are surely very few clubs which aren’t selling clubs. 2 in England, 2 in Spain, Bayern?

Richarlison to Citeh will just be the update of Scullion to Sheffield.

I think you'll find it is part of WFC's "sales pitch" to potential new players that we are a good option to place themselves in the shop window for a transfer to a big club in a couple of seasons if they perform well enough. It would somewhat undermine that if we did not then allow them to move on to further their careers when a big club comes in for them...

Are Ajax a ‘massive’ club? They are a club with a rich history and a nice stadium. I guess the Europa League run last season was good too. But Davy Klaasen was their captain and talisman and he swapped that for a bigger wage and to sit on Everton’s bench. Outside of the usual 3 clubs, the Dutch League is terrible and I don’t blame him for ditching Ajax for us.

Charlie has a Brazlian player in our squad with him. Huerelho. Marco obviously speaks Portuguese too. Which will all help him in his 'new culture'. Troy gets all that stuff too.

What I hope is that both Charlie and Marco get what taking a smallish team to a big new place is all about. Having signed the contracts. We could (if things continue as per now) be playing in Europe next season. How good would that be (for both Charlie and Marco (and Huerelho as a given))? Taking a 'smallish' club to Eutope. Again.

Keep the faith. The big time beckons. C.m.o.h.

He will be here next season. He'll snap his cruciate knee ligaments in January and wont play for us again until November 2018, where we are languishing at the bottom of the table. It's no use though, his knee explodes again when he comes on for the last 5 minutes of our 4-0 home defeat to Stoke.

He never plays for us again.

No disrespect to @Diamond , but... the EPL* was (is) comprised of 6(7?) and everyone else. I *think* the next stage (for a while) will be top 4, then the next 4 and then everyone else. I have no problems with "us" aiming for being in the "2nd IV".

*Mods any chance of getting "EPL" globally auto-corrected as "Greatest League in the World ™, © all the UK media" similar to that what happened to the band that-shall-not-be-named and their "anthem" that-shall-not-be-named?

Rich and Marco could move on to a club with an established and better history than ours, OR they could stay with Watford and write their own history right here, right now. I'm positive if we keep selling out our crowds the stadium will expand, we are not a little team anymore and the media, other teams and even some of our own fans need to take this fact on board.
