I like Split, and have been 3 times in the last 11 years, but was a bit disappointed when we went there for the day this year. The centre was absolutely rammed with tourists to the point where you could barely move and it's clearly increased in popularity a lot. A few nobhead stag and hen do's knocking about too. It was a bit of a well kept secret but that seems to be out the bag.

Best bit was the Hajduk stadium tour.

Heading to Oslo for a few days in October for the Northern Ireland match... Dreading the £10 pints!

I'll be in New York on the 23rd, anyone know of a good bar I'll be able to watch the Swansea game in?

Try £5.50 for a 330ml bottle of Heineken at the London stadium. Makes £10 for a pint of something half decent seem reasonable.

Check out the New York Hornets group. They have a bar they watch the games in!

The aforementioned NY Hornets meet at The Football Factory.. downstairs at Legends Bar 33rd street between 5th and 6th Avenue.

It's £10 minimum where i am, even for some less than decent local beers.

PS Nornironhorn there are cheaper places in Oslo if you get off the beaten track. Around 5-6 quid if you know where to look.

Yep, been in there, the place is owned by a hornet fan. Still got my membership card:

I see on the map that the place is right under the Empire State building. Must be a strange feeling watching us play and coming out to that sight!

You can't see it from outside, too many tall buildings in the way!

Looks to me that the entrance is right across the street from the ESB. Come out and look up and you should see it..

You're right, and we went up the top of that as well. I really don't remember it being that close, but then the whole weekend was a blur due to jetlag & alcohol.

Easily done.. all those skyscrapers look the same when youre right under them.

I also had a few drunken bleary eyed days in the big apple. I need to go back sometime to see the sights!

I was in NY for THE Leicester play off game and watched it with the NY Horns and a few Leicester fans. Surreal memories of being half cut and running out into the street, dancing and screaming. Christ knows what the passers by thought of us

Worth contacting them firstly - they made me feel very welcome

It was New York. I would think that's pretty normal behaviour there.

    Evening all.

I'm considering Colombia in April next year, and Japan in September.

Anyone been to either, and can offer any advice?

Will be going with friends. We'll be after culture, scenery, good food and of course, nightlife :)

10th wedding anniversary next August and we have a week with no kids. Would like a week of doing nothing much so no sightseeing.
    Any suggestions

See #431-435 on p.13 for a bit of stuff from me on Japan. I love it, though I only really know Tokyo. If I were you I would swap the holidays as if you go to Japan in early April it should be cherry blossom time.

  24. A friend of mine is on the way back from South Africa. She said that it was nice, but she needed longer to fully appreciate. She did mention that the Golan Heights are nice at this time of year.

I went to Japan last year. I think to take it all in you'd need at least two or three weeks. I was there for about ten days, and I didn't get to see everything. Everyone in Japan who I encountered was lovely. They have many sushi restaurants in Tokyo, but many of them are tiny shop-front sorts of places, but they all do the same kind of thing.

Been tasked to find an all inclusive resort next Summer near a town with sightseeing I can do whilst Mrs Diamond lies in the sun. Beach would be perfect. Any ideas?

Yes, most terrifying commercial airline flight I've ever had. Flew from Vienna to Moscow. I was turfed out of my seat as some woman demanded to sit there despite her seat being elsewhere leaving me to try and find another one on the sold out plane. The staff were miserable and tired looking (although that reflects most Russians). Safety didn't seem much of a concern with passengers and crew getting up and wondering around during taxiing and takeoff. The plane had seen much better days and felt like it was falling apart. This was about 10 years ago so they might have improved since.

Can't be so bad today since they are permitted to fly in EU and USA airspace (both have strict safety standards). Until recently, no Filipino airline was allowed in the EU, and even now only one is I believe.

My girlfriend used to work in Colombia.

Plan your trip around Cartagena - that's the best for nightlife. I'd skip Bogota altogether - there is very little there.

The coffee region, Medellin and Guatape are all worth seeing.

Is reykjavik worth going to in Feb/March time? Or is the daylight and weather an issue?

I went there in January a few years ago. It was fine. Obviously pretty snowy, and some bits of the island are off limits unless you're on a guided tour, but the whole country is obviously set up for it and much better to see it in its element in my opinion.
