I've still got my 7 - 1 biro, knocking around somewhere! But it was the one home game of the season I missed!

Not sure they do scarves with half Gabbiadini and the other half also Gabbiadini.

Great idea. Il be there to salute a great man, legend of this town and club, and overall smashing guy to speak to and get along with.

Let’s hope the boys can get a win to and makes him proud. I would expect some ex players to possibly attend? Should be a great day for all involved and let’s expect some decency from the away fans too.

Would be great to have a final, rousing 72nd minute outpouring and then retire it.

    Good idea.

Then keep an annual anniversary recognition conducted in the same way for the next few years.

    Why retire it?

Being in the SEJ slightly on the side of the away fans, it's the only time I hear any outpouring of support for Watford all game.

Plus it drowns out all of the moaning around me for a blissful 60 seconds.

I suggested this weeks ago and got, i think, one like. You suggest it now and get 15! Typical forum pet :p

On a serious note i was hoping there will be more to mark the occasion than just something organised by a supporters group. Surely the club has something planned?

Minute applauses are generally quite naff anyway, but when it spans two seasons it becomes an obligation rather than a heartfelt tribute, especially when fewer and fewer people join in with it each game. I've always thought that the 72nd minute was always a weird time to do it as well. Why not the 83rd for when we finished 2nd? Or 77 for when GT was appointed?

GT's name and Taylor Made Army should be sung every game, but it doesn't have to be in the 72nd minute and accompanied by applause.

    Agreed

I was a score board ender back in the 80's so Graham Taylor has a special place in my heart but do feel the minutes applause should have been done for the one game only

Are we the only club that has such a minutes applause during every game?

He will never be forgotten but time to move on

It's not a bad thing to be the only club doing something. But yeah, I think the 72nd minute applause is dying out a bit and there is times where I even forget that its going to happen - albeit when it does, its far quieter than last season

I still hold on to the idea where we should have our own club anthem/chant we can all clap to before the game. That would be a good way to commemorate GT whilst also generating a few more decibals to get out of the 'library category'

I also reckon the 1881 should have words with the club to see if they can move to the center of the rookery... They have really become disinterested in starting chants lately and I think that comes down to the lack of effort from the SEJ and GT stands. Hopefully being more central would help improve that? I can't see why fellow fans or the club would be anti that; or am I being narrowminded?

The club stopped playing Raining In My Heart after one or two games but shouldn’t have imho.

In defence of us SEJ’ers, I think the wall of silence created by the Rookery ‘no singing’ sections, which are positioned all around the 1881, actually absorb any noise that the 1881 make.

  19. Raining in my Heart is a terrible song. There are plenty of good Buddy Holly songs. Raining in my Heart is the My Ding-a-ling of the Holly catalogue. GT was a great man, but musical connoisseur he obviously wasn't.

To be fair it was kind of accidently missed during the Arsenal game as we had just scored. Since then home games have been tough so maybe the momentum was lost slightly then.

I think at the Swansea game it never happened and now really its just the odd pocket that keep the clapping going.

Because he was 72 years old when he passed away?

You could of course pick any number and find a relevance to his life.

Well, yeah. But my point is that if you want to honour someone you can find a better way of doing it than clapping in the minute of the age they happened to be when they died.

The applause, certainly since after the Boro game immediately following GT's passing, has always been a bit rubbish and the longer it goes on and the more people refuse to let it come to an end the worse it gets.

It happened verses Swansea in the bit of the Rookery I was in. No one seemed overly enthusiastic.

Maybe it was the Leicester game or as you say it was very quiet...

Get a smatter of applause in the middle of the SEJ.

Ha ha, it was well before my time and I have no opinion either way about that song other than it is of its time, just made more sentimental because it was GT’s song choice. Based on that alone, if it was a choice between Raining In My Heart and you-know-what as Watford’s tune then Buddy would win in my book, although I reserve the right to change my mind if a better option is put forward!

Edit: Perhaps not you-know-what by ****play

I read this quote on the Wobby this morning. I wonder if the club or '81 could discreetly ask what GT's family think about a dignified ending?

That is true. That's why putting them more central would mean the sound distributes around the ground better?

I bet they’d be lots of people who won’t move though.

Out of interest do the GT stand in that corner join in?

  32. Stevohorn

    Stevohorn Watching Grass Grow

I guess it's meant as a celebration of 72 years of life rather than marking an ending.

I to think it's time to drop the applause.. cant keep it going for ever. My excellent idea was to have a minutes silence on 72 minutes vs Saints.. would be very poignant though not really workable.
Hopefully when the second anniversary comes round we will have a statue in place so that can be the focus for any further memorials.

  33. CaveManHornet

Oh that's the problem... There are people who are too stubborn to move. Though in some cases I understand why (i.e having the seats for x amount of years), there is definitely a sense of 'i'm going to be an arséhole to the rest of you'.

I think the stubbornness in our club from the fans, manager, players and owners is our biggest enemy of progress. It seems like eveything good that our club lacks in can be related to someone being a stubborn old git.

In regards to the GT stand in the corner, I think it's 50/50. Half are trying to spurr the chants on whilst the other half are thinking "Oh, Andre's name has reminded me that I can't wait to finish off my book of Dorian Gray when I get home; where I can sit around the log and charcoal fireplace whilst nibbling on some breadsticks and caviar with some Tchaikovski 1812 overture playing in the ensemble lounge down the hall"

So its a year today we lost the great man to the footballing gods in the skies.

Lets hope the team and fans can put on a show he would be proud of tomorrow.
