https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...gwyn-williams-accused-racism-bullying-chelsea I know we are pretty inured to stories of bullying, but this is pretty horrific.
That's unacceptable. If these allegations are proved to be true, then I hope Rix & Williams get punished severely. Bar stewards.
Some recent racism stories have seemed to be inflated somewhat by the likes of Winter, Holt, Hayward and co. looking to burnish their right on credentials, but this is truly rancid. Hard to imagine they were operating in a total vacuum, either. Hope they lock them away and lose the key.
My oh my,that is awful. My sister in law used to do some ironing for his ex wife, who lived in Harpenden. She was less than complimentary about him,no wonder. Unspeakably vile.
A bit of research show that in the period Rix was Chelsea's academy coach there were surprisingly few black players in the FA Youth cup teams (alongside then youth players Jody Morris, Michael Duberry, Muzzy Izzet, Neil Clement and Neil Shipperley). I was surprised as I'd reffed Watford's academy at the same time and we had the reverse proportion to Chelsea's, yet we weren't an inner London club. Of the black players they had, they've seem to have credibility as witnesses as one's now an agent to some well known players, one's a financial whizz in the city and the others had a career in football and coaching. They didn't end up on the streets doing any of the vile things the abuse mentioned.
Worth having a watch of this. It was a TV documentary featuring Rix and the Chelsea youth team years ago. Just over 16 mins in is worth watching, look at Rix's attitude to the player and what he then has to do.
Those are crazy allegations, I can't imagine for a second they are without foundation. What an absolute ******.
My only remaining memory of Rix's footballing career is screaming at the TV when he was playing for England to get him off and replaced by Barnes. Eventually Robson did that and that was the end of Rix's unspectacular international career.
God Almighty. Very sad to think it has taken so long for these poor sods to feel empowered enough to come forward but aside from the grim racism stuff the fact that Rix was given his job back by Chelsea immediately after serving six months for 'unlawful sex with a 15-year-old girl' and being on the sex offenders’ register is revolting
I seem to remember that Rix was a very heavy smoker which was unusual as he was meant to be a professional athlete
