Oh for sure. I'd rate him finishing the sands of spring or whatever, before he dies, about a likely as us winning on Saturday. Of the two, I'll take a wfc win and just never reading the end.

  8. What an absolute dogs dinner of a last series.

    Wrecked.

Oh and the moral of the story is, the only really nice person in Westeros gets fcuked over.

I’m so annoyed I can’t be bothered with spoilers.

I wish the ice king zombie bloke had killed them all now.

    Well done HBO

The problem is Benioff and Weiss are doing Star Wars movies so they wanted to end it.

George RR Martin had enough material for another 2 series and wanted them to continue.

HBO said they could have the budget to make another 2 series.

So it was down to Dumb & Dumber.

There, now you don’t have to watch

  13. Nothing was explained, ideas and threads weaved through the early series were just trashed and forgotten.

For instance, who was the ice night king zombie bloke, what did he want, where was he going.... the whole theme from the start was about something really scary coming... and then he's killed like that in one episode and that entire thread is binned off without any explanation.

I obviously don't know the contractual details, but I don't understand why HBO didn't just dispense with Weiss and Benioff and get someone else in. They had a cash cow and, unlike Walking Dead, or other mega series which have been dragged out, the artistic decision was to tell the story.

This was the most disappointed I've been since Saturday. Utter gash. What a con.

  16. wfcmoog

    wfcmoog Tinpot

That was explained - you missed that bit.

I'm not spoiling it because it was about 3 seasons ago.

When the Andals and the First Men came to Westeros, they were at war with the Children of the Forest (Little elfish people). The COTF experimented by casting a spell and driving a piece of dragon glass (obsidian) into the heart of a captive man and turned him into a zombie, white king as a weapon against the First Men. He went rogue and they lost control of him and he became that guy who lived for thousand years, wreaking havoc, but just needed to be pricked with a piece of dragon glass again and he'd burst.

How many shows reach 8 seasons and actually finish? It had a real conclusion, not a lame non-finish after they cancelled the 9th season.

I'm content. It is a shame it came across rushed, but they finished the story.

  18. wfcmoog

What utter **** that was. The dragon, a mindless, mudering flamethrower until now, decides that rather than toast John Snow, it will respect his decision to kill his 'mother' and melt the iron throne. This is a giant reptile which murders children, but prefers to make poignant, symbolic statements rather than just erupt with rage.

    Grey worm was a ****.

The assassination of Danaerys was utterly flat. When it had happened, I was checking how long was left in the episode. Annoyingly still a long time.

Bran becomes king. The man who is named after a cereal. The man who is the most boring character in the whole thing. Even more boring than the ******* sand snakes with his crow shenanigans.

How come the army of the dead defeated all the Dothraki, extinguished all their flames, but didn't kill that many of them?

Arya is going to sale west is she? Who gives a ****. Hope she's carrying smallpox with her so she can wipe out some undiscovered populations or something. What a pile of ****.

Sansa is Queen in the North? Who gives a ****. Utter pile of horseshit. And the other lords just accepted that, no bother? They accepted a Stark on the throne and a Stark ruling a newly independent North? ********.

And Bron is there is he? On the Small Council? Why, because he had a number 1 with a cover of an old Drifters song back in the 1990s? Why on earth would Bran have selected him for his council? Why has he been given Highgarden? Because he didn't shoot Jaime and Tyrion with a crossbow? He gets one of the largest castles in the kingdom, because he had a crossbow.

And why are the likes of Brienn and Samwell deciding who will be king? They are from secondary houses who have only been in the story because of their proximity to main characters? ********.

Grey Worm is a ****. He needed to be killed. Mass murdering maniac.

I'm sure there is more. Simply can't believe that these people were given the chance to end one of the best (to this point) and most historic TV shows in history and they cocked it up because of their own personal greed. I hope that this marks the beginning of a downward spiral for them, because as creative people, if your work is ****, then so are you. They are desperate go jump to their next gig, but they've left a legacy of failure in the final 2 seasons, due to their own selfish ambitions.

GOT was a great show but has been killed. Utter shame.

  19. wfcmoog

So what? They finished the story for two reasons. One, because it is based on books which have two further books coming which will finish the story and 2 because they wanted to jump ship, so they were going to finish it one way or another. Unfortunately they chose to do so in a way which paid no mind whatsoever to all the work that had been done in setting up the audience for 6 seasons.

An epic, masterpiece; a web of myriad characters with complicated motivations and intertwined destinies, all for what? A complete and utter dead end which meant that everything else which happened was waste of time.

That's not how good stories end. I hope to 7 gods that GRRM doesn't allow the books to end in the same way, because it was tripe.

I agree. HBO should have cut them loose and let someone who was committed to flesh out the arcs with Martin's guidance.

I can't fault the acting, the FX or the cinematography but the writing was pretty awful in the last 2 seasons.

  21. I was saying to my Mrs Jon wouldn't have killed Denerys 1, because he's not a cold blooded murderer and 2, because he loves her.

If my Mrs had a dragon and set about the houses across the road I might ask her if she's lost her mind. I might even, after thinking about it for a bit, call the police. I'm sure as heck not going to stick a dagger in her.

Jon had a 30 second conversation with Denerys in the throne room and that was that, judge, jury and executioner. It's not in his character. He's a well meaning limp lettuce.

I would prefer to sit through a replay of the 90 minutes of the Cup Final than have to watch that again.

So disappointing and leaves so many questions unanswered.

So after all that, the newly elected King is Bran?! The geezer who's done **** all for 3 seasons? The bloke who's final act of the whole series was to leave his advisors to rule his kingdom whilst he goes Dragon spotting with his eyes rolled into the back of his head as if he's overdosed on Ketamine....

Like the Cup Final, i'm gonna pretend this season didn't happen and it was all just a nightmare.

I have to say that I was a little disappointed with this last series and the way it ended. However, have they left it open for spin off story lines? I think they have, what do you guys think?

I won't say who are my favourites that they could be built around as I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone by saying who has survived etc. However I think there are several possible characters to build a spin off around. Maybe someone who knows how to post spoilers could speculate on who any possible spin off could be built around?

It was obvious that Jon would kill Dany but in that manner? Come on you've spent 8 long seasons building something up to be dispensed in a minute top? Have some respect for the fans and the story. Then the writers decided to spend the next 50 minutes copy and pasting the ending from Lord of the Rings.

The problem with the writing is that they had an end goal but no idea how to get there so winged it in the worst way possible. Had they said they would keep a vangaurd of Dothraki and Unsullied at Winterfell I could believe that but they didn't and we had to assume they all died. Two episodes later there are thousands of each still left.

Show Jon getting arrested and drag him out with Tyrion, give us a fighting chance rather than making us have to piece things together from scraps. It's the final episode things should be clearer especially when they had just happened.

I have accepted the ending it's just the journey this final season has been bloody awful.

Seems like I'm the only person around that enjoyed that episode and the ending as well. Once they'd decided to end the series here then it was always going to be rushed, and it was. The one thing they got spot on was that nobody guessed the ending, not even close.

Also, that ******* bit where Samwell brings out the book at the small council meeting. What a terrible bit of television.

    Awful.

A battle with the Northmen victorious and then whomever they wanted as king, Dany slain, the dragon killed, that was the ending. Not this *****.

Oh and why did Jon Snow HAVE to go to the Nights Watch? Once Greyworm sailed off, would've been well easy to just say "Right, so now he's ****ed off, Jon, you can rule the North now that you ain't a prisoner anymore and there's nothing Greyworm and his poxy d*ckless army can do about it" - especially with no ruler or dragon... Am I missing something?

  32. The right ending was Jon and the army smashing their way into the city, lots of sword fighting, the hound killing the mountain with some mediaeval spiky thing, Daenerys bitch slapping Cersi, Jon and Cersi get married and live happily ever after, Cersi gets fed to the dragon, Arya stabs a few people, and Greyworm and his boys form a barber shop quartet called Greyworm and the ****less and go on to have many number ones.

It was the right storyline with the right outcomes.

The problem is that it should have developed over 3 seasons, rather than half of one, so we actually believed it. As it was:

No one at all believed that it was a hard choice for Jon to kill Danny. It was a psychopath who he had a brief incestual relationship vs his family, who he'd spent fighting for over a hundred of hours of television.

The dragon burning the throne was pathetic. It literally made no sense.

Why on earth would anyone listen to a Lannister at the end, after one monologue. Why would he suddenly go for Bran, who was basically an extra for the past 4 seasons.

I did genuinely forget that because the WW were dead, Jon basically became king of the area beyond the wall. I thought that was a decent end for him.
