I never said we are in the midst of a fire sale that's already been proven to be in full flow, I explained that based on having 17 first team players "out", that it was going to be coming. On one hand people say "wait until the end of the window", yet on the other it's sarcastically "what a fire sale this is" whilst the window is still open and players are still being left out/heavily linked away.
Don't expect anyone to admit you were right when Sarr, Hughes, Capoue, Deeney, Dawson and Suarez are sold Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
Is it time to revisit this thread again? Barely half of a starting 11 sold so far and unlikely to see more than 5 or 6 more go. Hardly a fire sale. We still have Gray and Cathcart.
Both with their Champo experience. What we need. Gutted we let Ben Watson go to Charlton TBH. If Sarr goes, hoping we go in for Lloyd Dyer and his Champo experience.
whats weird is that when we were relegated i completely expected and almost looked forward to the firesale? i thought we would be releasing/selling players left, right and centre. as it is so far assuming suarez goes, its only him, estupinan and doucoure. i expect one or two more to leave (capoue and one of sarr/deulofeu), and would like some more of the deadwood shifted (dawson/welbeck). However some of the players who i had written off actually have not looked bad so far this season. cleverley, kabasele, foster and cathcart will all be key to what we are trying to achieve this season.
We also released Mapps, Holebas and Gomes and Pereyra looks to have been moved on too. I agree that I looked forward to our Premier League players moving on, but it looks like we are going to be stuck with a lot of them, whilst the much heralded, fresh faced talent has been sold off instead.
oh thats a good shout i had completely forgot that pereyra left yesterday. it feels like an eternity ago that gomes, holebas and mapps went, can we include them in the firesale if we didnt get a fee? indeed and selling the young players is definitely not something that sits comfortably with me, but i guess you can only sell players where there is demand? clearly nobody wants our has-beens whereas the young talent we have accumulated is wanted on the continent. i do wonder why players like estupinan and suarez didnt have any serious interest from within the premier league though.
I for one am amazed it turns no one wants the rancid old ***** we’ve spent the last 2-3 years slagging off every week.
I guess that's still once... Deulofeu and Capoue will be off out of the ones anyone cares about, that's about it now.
Estupinan, Suarez, Capoue, Deulofeu, Pereyra, Doucoure, possibly Dawson, Deeney, Welbeck, Femenia, Pussetto and maybe even Sarr to come. Yes some of them aren't worth giving a crap about and a few I'd be actively happy to see go, but it's still a hell of a lot of outgoings and so far very minimal incomings.
By my reckoning we have signed 8 incoming players in this window. I presume you are judging them by worth rather than quantity.
Still only 3 of those so far, or 5 with the Capoue news the club released and inevitable bye bye Suarez. Can only see suitors for Deulofeu and Sarr really (and Pussetto to Udinese but who cares). Otherwise the rest in all likelihood will stay and I think we will hold onto Sarr, which is a good thing in all cases other than lard arse. So if we keep Sarr, Dawson, Wellbeck, Femenia I think we've done well for a relegated side. Added some good youngsters too, I don't think our business has been bad at all. I know it's theoretical but if we stayed up id have only wanted Sarr, Deulofeu, Estupinan and Capoue to stay from that list anyway so most I'm not arsed if we shift.
Clubs have seen the our "full" asking price, the "summer sale" price, the "look we really need cash" blue X price, and they're now waiting for the "desperate as ****, match anything on the internet with 10% cashback Monday one-day only Specials".
I must admit, it does look that way. Some of these players like Sarr, Deeney, Dawson and Welbeck still have the UK market, and this is almost certainly where they'll be headed if indeed they do go, so we've still got 2 and a half weeks before that window shuts. But players like Pussetto, Kiko, Geri (although he could realistically sign for a Prem side) & Capoue don't have too much time to get their move. Personally, I think we can lose Pussetto easily enough, but I wouldn't mind keeping all the others. If Pussetto goes for around £5-7m mark then we'd have made well over £50m in the transfer market, so that must keep the wolf from the door for this season. If we kept all these players, then we can loan or sell Penaranda & Success if we can find buyers. Still no news on Suarez, but I get the feeling that will be announced either today or tomorrow.
Success is still recovering from that Achilles injury so good luck with that, and Penaranda although I agree is expendable doesn't seem to be a bad egg and wants to try and play so am happy with him here. Suarez undoubtedly is imminent.
We've signed 6 "first team" players, two of which are loans and three of which are from Udinese. Murray looks absolutely finished as a footballer, Sierralta is 5th or 6th choice fodder, Perica is a non-goalscoring striker and then there's Ngakia who looks a great signing and Troost-Ekong who should be. With the likely final outgoings and without any more signings (which I'm not saying will be the case, but as things are right now) then I think it's been a poor window that's left us extremely lacking in any real quality in depth. Obviously it's expected we'd be weaker than last season overall, but for me it looks like it's going to turn out worse than I had feared.
I was impressed by Troost-Ekong‘s bearing in his welcome interview. If that translates onto the pitch he strikes me as a potential future Watford captain.
So the outgoings that haven't happened yet will definitely happen, but the incomings that haven't happened yet, definitely won't? I'd say if Capoue goes, our midfield is weaker than last season, but the rest of the squad I think is stronger, or at least has the potential to be. It's certainly more exciting, at least. Ngakia, Sema and Troost-Ekong have all improved our starting 11, as has the full integration of JP. And we've so far only lost Doucoure from our strongest possible line up from last year. Keep Sarr and our current squad gets top 6 at least, imo.
******** fire sale ever, this club can't do anything right. Hopefully Sarr is sold in the coming days to get this fire sale back on track.
Did you miss the bit where I literally said "which I'm not saying will be the case, but as things are right now" or just choose to ignore it?
