I think the problem is, that apart from Rick and Carl (whose haircut is awful) there aren't any consistent characters. Losing some often kills off potential for long term interest.

The story line with Negan has run it's course and the show is barely about zombies anymore. I'd welcome a storyline about an attempt to actually rebuild society, get to the bottom of the virus and see if it can be cured (at least so that people don't turn as soon as they die).

The series has died because now the motivation is simply execs doing accounting. How little can they spend to maintain the maximum amount of viewers. The programme itself is going nowhere.

Just watched all Rick and Morty and then Bojack Horseman on Netflix.

Both are excellent. Bojack is just so well written it's ridiculous. First half of season one is ok and it seems like just another, run of the mill, adult cartoon, but from then on it's amazing. Just finished season 4. I understand season 5 has just been commissioned, so I'm glad it's going to continue.

The storyline with Negan could have been so much more but the writing is just awful. I don't care about anyone on the show anymore apart from Rick. It could do with at least Carl being bumped off as it would create an interesting story arc.

Thing is, I think Negan is the good guy. Rick slaughtered his outpost people in their sleep, just to get food from the hilltop. Rick was prepared to take Alexandria by force. Rick let's people die or kills them in cold blood regularly.

    Negan is at least charismatic.

There's no way Negan is the good guy.

It's appropriate to condemn many of the things Rick has done (honestly, once Dale died the group pretty much lost its moral centre and never replaced it), but ultimately they're driven by necessity and survival, not personal love of power or greed.

Negan is 100% about looking out for himself and is brutal to the core. See: his harem. See: using Lucile on Abraham and Glenn. Rick has done some dubious things, but his motivation has boiled down to protecting himself and others. Give him a safe location and an ability to farm food and he won't shoot anyone. Negan, on the other hand, would continue to terrorise people. There's a good reason a massive percentage of his underlings fear him.

I'm swaying this way as well, most of the time he was provoked by Ricks gang. That being said he runs the Saviours with fear. Look at the Dwight situation.

Just watched the fourth episode of TWD, was a lot better apart from the car chase.

Loving Peaky Blinders at the moment, first two episodes of this series were excellent. Still got last nights offering to see yet.

  14. This series of walking dead has wound me up

The characters have all been turned into imbeciles making elementary mistakes (like standing around in a field waiting for anyone who feels like it to mow them down with a machine gun) makes you wonder how the characters managed to survive an apocalypse, zombies and a ton of baddies over previous seasons

The best thing that could happen is a Beneath the Planet of the Apes type nuclear annihilation of the lot of them

This post would fit nicely in the Crystal Palace thread if you refer the season rather than a series and replace characters with players.

Too right, the writing has been awful this season. It is a car crash of a show at the moment and doesn't sound as though it is good behind the scenes.

Was the decision to bump them off a good one?

Mr Robot season 3 was absolutely superb. Genuinely one of the best things on the box.

Detecorists was terrific. Just everything about the show is perfect. Apart from its not long enough and is finished.

Loved Detectorists which has come to a happy end. Whimsical, well characterized, never slow moving with the backdrop of the gorgeous Suffolk countryside. Loved this transition in episode one of the final season.

Me thinks the current Walking Dead series is a bit Naf, as they are trying to be a bit "ARTY FARTY" IMO, and another thing the amount of opportunities they have had to kill Negan and some of his leading thugs is ridiculous why the f...k don't they just shoot the f...ers when they have the chance???

Just finished S4 ourselves and my wife and I completely agree with this. The first half of S1 is a bit mediocre-to-fair, but the latter half is excellent. S2 onwards were jaw droppingly good; it has some of the most profound writing I've seen in a TV show. Without a doubt the best show I've seen in a long time, perhaps ever.

Just binged the last series of "The Leftovers" (which had been sitting around screaming to be watched since the spring/early summer). The first series was an astonishing watch - I would describe it as "flawless" television - the second was slightly less so (making it "just" very, very good - an extremely interesting and engaging/uncomfortable watch). But it went straight back up to "flawless" with the third and, sadly, final series. Fantastic settings, plots and sub-plots (and twists) with extra-dimensional travel and some of the best performances I've ever seen - the standards of both the acting and story-telling is "up there" with "I CLAVDIVS".

I'm unsure whether this will ever get a terrestrial UK airing so the DVD/BR box sets should start appearing in the supermarket's bargain sections after Xmas (BR release was in Oct '17).

I've just watched all of 'The end of the f****ing world' in two sittings. Very strange, but really enjoyed it. The acting from the two leads was really, really good. I'd be amazed if the actor who played James doesn't go onto bigger things. Anyone else watched it?

Yes I watched it last month. As each episode was short (about 17 minutes each) it was quite easy and quick to get through. It was enjoyable and the two leads were very good particularly given their age.

  29. Bwood_Horn

Yep. It's not total crap and gets quite interesting towards the final three episodes episodes. David Morrisey is alright, Nikolaj Lie Kaas is brilliant (especially in a double act with Eleanor Worthington Cox, McKenzie Crook is good (and unrecognisable) and Julian Rhind-Tutt is scene stealingly brilliant. A big shout out to the Irish "bounty-hunter" - I can't be bothered to see who played her. The sets/scenes are very good.

PS It also has all of the historical accuracy of GoT but it is watchable (remember it's gets better towards the end - I can't help feeling that the odd series length of 9 episodes means that a lot of the later planned episodes were "condensed").

Anyone else watch "The Tunnel"? Only recently discovered it. Rattled through series 1 and about to embark on the second series. Series one - particularly the way it ended - reminded me of a certain film:

I'm going to revisit Lost. It was a head scratcher at the time so I'm wondering if it has aged well.
