Have Milan got any half decent players we could swap him for?

Okay, so here are our central midfield options: Doucouré, Chalobah, Cleverley, Hughes, Pereyra, Watson, Capoue. That's 7 players for 3 spots. Pereyra is really more of a CAM and so doesn't contend with Capoue, so that's 6 players for 2 spots. That seems excessive to me. We'd be best off freeing up a squad slot for another winger or defender. Realistically, who do we sell? Only Watson and Capoue are really options as we just bought Chalobah, Cleverley, and Hughes, and Doucouré is probably our best player. Selling Watson is possible but he will only fetch a small fee and we already know he's willing to wait on the bench and then put in a shift when called upon. Selling Capoue, on the other hand, will fetch a much larger fee and free up a non-homegrown spot. Plus, we'll rid ourselves of the burden of an underperforming midfielder who is occasionally great but usually poor.

No brainer really. Keep Watson, sell Capoue.

I can see why we might sell him if a decent offer comes in. Wouldn't be too upset.

On the other hand he'd be a decent squad player at our level even if he doesn't hit the same level every week.

As Watson is mostly now linked to Championship teams it seems that it's questionable he is now at this level. So that's five for two with arguably only Capoue and Doucoure fully tested in a central two. Only sell Capoue if there is both,

    A good offer
B a proven (not aspiring) replacement.

We gets injuries should be uppermost in the mind right now.

So because the press has linked Watson with Championship sides he's not good enough to be a squad player for us? Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree with your premise. He may have to move to a Championship club if he wants to start, but that doesn't mean he's can't do a job for us. You say you want a proven replacement for Capoue, and that's exactly what Watson is anyway. Proved himself in the 15/16 season at this level.

Capoue has the talent but not the desire. He is happy playing for a team like us where he is a big fish in a small pond, he can turn it on when he wants and hide when he doesn't. That's all well and good to a point, but if we want to progress beyond mere survival year in year out we need players who give 100% every game, players who want to play for a top four club and put in the performances to match.

What did we pay for capoue £5-6m? In our first premiership season that was the limit of how much we would pay for a player, in our third season we're now spending £10m plus for players, they're still a gamble but much less of a gamble. If we sell capoue for £15-20m it would be absurdly good business and next season if we are looking to replace him (which we don't even need to) we'll be fishing in the £20m+ pool. Mike Ashley could replace Capoue for that let alone the Pozzos.

Not when saw him against Real S D, other than that game I can't comment on him. Neither is Capoue abox to box midfielder and nor is he defensive midfield. He'd be suited to a 442 or a more advanced role.

Any player that can get you 6 or 7 goals from midfield is invaluable. He is frustratingl at times but hopefully Silva can get the best from him.

Hadn't commented on this but feel we should keep so we continue to have options in central midfield. Also good to keep some continuity.

If Silva can get the most out of him he could still have a big part to play as he showed today

One goal does not make a summer, but maybe he has decided he has to get his arse in gear and play like we know he can, on a more consistant basis? I'm sure Silva will make the right decision on him.

Maybe he'll give him until January to see if today's goal was just one of his infrequent moments of brilliance or if he really has got his arse in gear at last.

That added about £5mil to his value. Sell while premium is high. AC Milan are spending stupid money, that goal alone would convince them to spend £25mil on him.

EC has for some reason got this permanently nonchalant body language, can't quite explain it,sort of when someone tries to look cool when they walk.

There is no doubt he can pick a pass & score a beautiful goal like today, but I would still sell him if the right offer came in, because he's a luxury player. We are not quite at that stage to have luxury players in the team.

The fact that he was on the bench ahead of Hughes and Success in the last two weeks shows that he's obviously knuckled down since the reported bust up in Austria and worked his way back into Silva's good books. We know there's a skillful player in there, however he needs good man management, something that may have been lacking with the last two head coaches. Maybe, just maybe, the best thing that could have happened was the bust up?

You could well be right. Impressed that Capoue has let his feet do the talking. Silva and the way he deals with players may well have something to do with it. There seems to be a fresh vibe or connection between the squad and coach at the moment. I think we will do well if this is allowed to develop.
