I just hope none of our supporter's disgrace them selves on Friday night unlike those Southampton fans. We can beat Cardiff on and off the pitch without making ill judged jibes about a tragic incident

I wish I was surprised by this. I'm sure you're right, that this is partly due to lawyers' demands, but I still find myself considering the relevance of the type of person I believe the CEO to be.

All beginning to leave a rather bad taste in the mouth this, although it hopefully leads to investigations into the roles of agents in football transfers.

Sadly its just typical of modern football - the accident and those who died have probably been forgotten about for the sake of money and egos.

Cardiff are certainly grieving the death of Sala.
How much of that is over the death of a young man (who had the whole of his life in front of him and would still be alive had Cardiff not bought him) and how much is down to the fact that they have lost £15m and their best chance of avoiding relegation, is open to question.

Disgusting way for Cardiff to behave. Whether there is a technicality in the contract or not, paying the money to Nantes is the right thing to do.

Nantes are the victims here. He was on the plane at Cardiff's bequest. There was no other reason for him to make the journey other than because he was their new player.

So had he trained for them on Monday, what would have happened then? Would Nantes have made an official complaint over obduction of one of their players? Of course not. At the time, in everyway possible, Sala was a Cardiff player. The world knows this, but Cardiff have no doubt spent a lot of money on clever lawyers in order to wangle their way out of their obligation.

Ok, so they will save themselves £15m, but what cost to their reputation as a club and future transfer deals? The backlash could and should be huge for this. I hope they go down and lose all that EPL money, which clearly means so much to them.

I've just read this for the first time and while I'm not Samuels' biggest fan I think he makes excellent points.

It seems that HB1 agrees now

My conment was soley based on the line Martin Samuels used. Anyone who writes a flippant statement like paying £15m for a dead striker, just after his body was found, is a classless ****. I’ve not changed my opinion on that at all.

It does seem odd that there was such an outpouring of grief and regret from Warnock and the Cardiff fans for the death of a Nantes striker.

They won't, because they'll lose the inevitable court case. Paperwork was signed between the clubs, Cardiff announced it as a done deal, paperwork was submitted to FIFA, and Cardiff named the deceased Sala in their squad. There's no way they're going to win this.

Best case scenario for them is Nantes agree to settle because they don't want to drag it through the courts, which is likely Cardiff's goal.

It's a big risk because if FIFA or CAS get involved not only could they lose but they might end up with a transfer ban or other clubs refuse to deal with them.

Leicester "signed" a player that wasnt registered in time (Silva?) but still had to pay.

Issue here appears to be Cardiffs doing (too high a signing fee?) but that isn't the fault of Nantes

There are no winners in this case, but I would say any goodwill Cardiff had has evaporated. Their owners already had a bad rep in the football community and this stinks. If I was a selling club I'd rather cut my nose off than to do business with them.

Think I've said it before but the reality is if Sala wasn't their player he'd still be alive. Seems Sala loved his time in Nantes and that the agents have treated him like a prized piece of meat by forcing a deal to Cardiff

Did he actually put pen to paper and sign to join Cardiff?

If so then Cardiff should honour the deal, if not then they should not, simples

Not sure. He's from North Yorkshire and the charge is suspicion manslaughter by an unlawful act.

So it might be he's a flight engineer/owner who passed the plane as flightworthy.

    Don't know.

    The BBC reports:

‘Det Insp Huxter urged people not to speculate about the identity of the man as it could hinder the investigation’.

That’s just a dim thing to say imho.
It is the first thing people will think on this news?
    For example, see posts above.
And why does speculation hinder the investigation?

  34. Hard to pin manslaughter on an agent.

My guess would be someone who owned the plane, or was responsible for the maintenance, or who sold / fitted a dodgy component not following the records and traceability rules, or something like that.
