I wouldn't sell. I still think a two man strike force with him and Gray would suit both infinitely better, and you'd see the best of both of them.

I guess the question is would we get more value out of £20 million over x years/appearances - or by having him as a club captain around the club and an option on the bench in when we need someone to come and take the game by the scruff of the neck?

I don't think deeney has any less ability, but he just can't play the lone striker role.

I think it is dumb to sell him to any team around us who play with two strikers, as he will no doubt improve them.

Okaka is going anyway, so hold onto deeney until the summer rather than potentially shoot ourselves in the foot by fortifying relegation candidates.

As has been said, if we lose to Southampton I can't see Silva keeping his job, and then we might end up playing two up front again

If Newcastle play Troy in a front two with Dwight Gayle (who I rate) I think he could rediscover his form.

I think he'd be more likely to accidentally land on Dwight Gayle after jumping for a header and squashing him like a frog under a car...

...and not staying match fit, and getting a bunch of idiotic red cards, and getting in to continuous late-night scraps and antics after having already been in close to the last chance saloon from a previous severe incident...

There are very few other players I could name who have been more on the receiving end of such generous loyalty from their clubs in recent years as Troy has from us...

I cannot see Silva wanting to let Deeney go and leave him with Okaka/Gray and Success so will need to get another striker or two in first - which we will probably want to do anyway.

Proven strikers cost megabucks and more than we would get for TD. I can't see us buying anything other than a promising striker for the future.

Won’t happen , look at our bench against Man City, Silva considered Sinclair to be our best option for a sub , he won’t let Denney go until we make a new signing and lets face it proven premier league strikers aren’t easy to come by

Sadly I don't think we will get anything like £20m for him, we'll be lucky to get half that on his current form :(

He got a new contract in the summer of 2016, is being paid £75k pw, he is the Club Captain, but apart from a short spell pre Christmas in 2015, he has done precious little since the summer of 2015.

He is effectively being paid £4,000,000 per year for doing very little. So I think he has been shown plenty of loyalty by the club and fans. Much of the real criticism he attracts is not about poor form, but about his effort, his attitude, him being clearly overweight and unfit and his suspensions. He has brought that upon himself.

Personally, I would have had a different view of him, and I suspect many others would feel the same, if had he displayed 100% effort in trying to get his form and fitness back.

He's english so that's worth £10m alone. Could get at least £15m for him from the likes of West Brom.

The fans still sing for him but it's more in desperation than expectation. Kind of like fans singing Ricky Hatton songs when he' on TV. They know how great he was. But he's fat, old and never coming back to his prime.

It really isn"t up to Silva, if someone bid £25 million he will go.... this wont happen so they dont want to sell him. His game has gone down hill yes, but he can do a job for the rest of the season. Next transfer window is a different kettle of fish if slimani [or whoever comes in] does well. Dont hang on every word that managers and chairmen , sorry chairperson says.......

I have no evidence for this, but in a world where Arsenal reportedly want £30 million from Theo Walcott from Southampton, I don't think Watford have the financial wherewithal left to buy in classier replacements for anybody in this January window.

We were amongst the biggest spenders in the first window, shame about the duds and the injuries, including Deeney's op which had done for his pre season (fitness) and form thereby seriously devaluing him. Even before his suspensions.

I can only see temp loans of men we've never heard of, a long way off actually buying a Cleverley, never mind buying a decent player from a rival Premier League struggler like Bournemouth. Or Leicester.

I think he should stay at the club, and after retirement take a well deserved back room job ..... with the ground staff as a human pitch roller .

Gray may or may not turn out to be but I'm pretty sure, after seeing the reaction to him on here over the last few months, that people are massively over-estimating what you get for £18m in the striking department these days.

I think he should go. The fans at Newcastle are clearly less fickle.

Agree with the sentiment but thats his job that he was handsomly paid for. He's paid for doing something pretty much everyone on here has to pay to do and at the moment the club are not getting their money's worth.

    Doesn’t mean he has to.

80% of strikers in the world probably don’t justify the wage they’re paid. The fact that Deeney performed at such a high for three years in a row should not be snuffed at and we should appreciate that when discussing his decline.

I agree he’s been a great servant to the club, but it works both ways. The Pozzos gave him a route into the PL by building a team that could get promotion from the championship, we also didn’t fire him when he got sent to prison. We'll never know if he would’ve made it there without these things happening but I’d say it’s doubtful. Once promoted he gave it his all initially, earned a fat contract and won lots of media work. This season he has made himself ineligible to work for 7 games due to stupid red cards and is really not giving anything close to the effort he gave in his first PL season. I’d say the club certainly owe him, but he owes the club and at the moment it’s a very one sided relationship.

That second red was really harsh, ergo so was the 4 match ban. Especially given what Kane and Alli got away with on the same day

Deeney's season has been stop/start which of course affects his influence on the field, but because of this suddenly everyone wants his head! If ever we've had a loyal, committed & passionate player it's Deeney and now he's back (hopefully now uninterrupted for the rest of the season) his leadership & performances will help us comfortably over the line. To all of you who've put forward the idea that he's this seasons boo boy ... grow some cohonas. Frikkin snowflakes.
