Making single adjustments is obviously invalid. Remove everyone’s worst result or leave the data uncontaminated. We know the point you want to make so stop wasting everyone’s time?

Your problem is that you apparently should only be looking at the table as it stands, and forming all your opinions from that.

Okay. I was agreeing with you on that one but never mind. Maybe I was clumsy in my post. Have a good weekend.

Good point. The table is irrelevant, especially after 29 games.

I really don’t have the time to adjust everyone’s results. And there has to my memory only been two outlier results this season ( us and Sotton), both of these were taken into account. I didn’t remove our result either, I just made it 2-0. I also stated this clearly.

But fair enough. I won’t waste the forum’s time any more.

No, having opinions you express above, do not fit into my definition of "loser". In my view, you are a loser because you use your bad opinion of the owner and our players to take the negative view of everything, and ignore anything positive, regardless. You have lost your sense of perspective and reality. You now have a loser mentality.

Nothing personal though, merely an observation.

I went to see my mum and dad this morning, my dad tried to make out that he used to 'crap' into an open drain when when he was at school. I asked him if he went to school in the 1600s, it has nothing to do with this result, but our conversation reminded me of watching this game.

    They were crap.

    We were crap.

They had a player who hit the ball really hard at the goal and it went it.

We had a player who hit the ball really hard at the goal and the keeper tipped it over.

Two crap teams, playing crap football, with a bunch of mostly crap players.

I’m surprised so many have found so much from that game to argue about.

Yes. A fantastic 3 points. Couldn't have been easier. Where were their famously tight defence? Thank God we didn't waste all that salary on Cahill. Last thing we need is yet another competent CH and leader at the back. Lol.

As I keep trying to explain. Your realism seems to mean looking at the table to form your opinions, and inevitably that means you realistically think we will lose to the teams above us as we are sitting near the bottom - more defeats than wins.

My realism means looking at all factors, and building a picture of the real situation. I think we can beat every team in the league. So far we have got points from Liverpool, Manchester Utd, Wolves, Arsenal, Spurs and Sheff Utd, six of the top nine teams in the league. So far we have 27 points from29 games, almost one point a game, through our terrible start to the season. Why is it not realistic that we could get 9/10 more points, slightly more than one a game from them and every team from the 9 games left, particularly as, since Pearson arrived, we have let in less goals than 17 other teams in the league and more clean sheets than the vast majority too.

The answer from you would be that it isn't realistic to get points from them as they have more points than us already

If that isn't defeatism, then I don't know what is.

But all this is pointless, as I said yesterday. It is a personal thing how we think and look at life. You have your way, I have mine and neither of us (almost by definition) will convince the other to change our minds.

You’re simply not listening to what I am saying. And there’s no “inevitably” about it, at all.

I have never said that we can’t beat anybody. I have never said that we have to accept defeat because others are above us in the table. That is precisely what I mean by realism not being defeatism.

But fundamentally you can’t overlook the table, or claim that it is “wrong” because you think that we are better than our current position suggests. Because it is the table and our points total that will determine our fate. It’s not a matter of “opinions” at all, it is the objective reality of competitive sport.

    Nope.
Results over a sustained period produce a reasonable indication to a player or team's level.
Years ago in tennis we had the 'Denise Parnell Problem'. Denise,a decent player would always be seeded in the GB nationals as she went to Bongo Bongo land, played a small hen in its late 40s and gained ranking points. She would lose first round because others were better but didn't have the resources to 'buy' a ranking.
Football is pretty much living by the 'DPP' now.
Sooner or later it will explode. Until then if you don't have as many points as other teams you're in trouble.
Of course luck plays its part but in most ball games, especially football and tennis the more successful teams do the simple things better more often. In tennis 'over and in', 'control time and space' and that is usually enough to get you on the tour!
    Have we been unlucky? Certainly.
    Have we played well? Sometimes.
However as Moog says,in the last calendar year our results don't lie.
Look for a more in depth answer if you will but as all decent coaches know, look after the performance and the result will happen.
Unfortunately one of the biggest problems in tennis and I suspect football at junior level is the inability of coaches and parents to be honest with players. In tennis this springs from too many coaches not playing the game to a sufficient standard to know what is required.
In order to make money coaches sell false dreams to parents and players about 'playing full time'. This never ends well and we lose countless players because they have unrealistic expectations.
Pearson has alluded to the lack of fitness when he came in. That is unforgivable if true. No amount of fancy tricks will help if you can't last the game.
I really hope, like all on here that we cling on but I can't say that I'm expecting it. There's no evidence to support it.

I wont get into the nonsense of the stadium being hard to get to and the area being a **** hole! What makes getting to Watford any different?Oh & it's hardly paradise is it?
Trains are direct from Watford Jnc ffs!
Loads of comments " we're better than them" Palace are 12 points above Watford :)

You're Playing some great stuff last week was amazing and showed you're too good to drop, Historicly I have no hatred of Watford as I like proper clubs due to the nonsense I've read on here and the clear hatred of Palace I'm not so sure!
Obviously I want Bha our real rivals to go down more than you lot

If we stick with the same approach the consensus amongst a few was that Pereyra has had his chance and not delivered, Pussetto hasn't had a chance but most suspect he isn't the answer and that really leaves Welbeck to have a go? On the other hand, could it be time for a change to a new formation, maybe 442 with someone alongside and closer to Deeney? I really do hope Nigel knows what we need!

I'm not totally despondent today. Historically games against Palace are always like they were yesterday. Very tight matches with no margin for error. We always cancel each other out and it's been like this for years, even going back to our Championship days.

We have 9 games left. 6 of those we have a chance of getting wins and draws. 3 I'd say sit in the more unlikely category. 3 wins and 2 or 3 draws should see us over the line. We can get these results, but it's tight now.

Now we've lost Geri, Welbeck has to step up. Not sure why he's not starting games. It can only be down to fitness issues. But we're in the last 9 games now. If he breaks, he breaks, he's not being used anyway, but we need to use someone of his quality in the Deulofeu position. For my money, that would give us the cutting edge we need when we attack.

If we are to stay up I suspect our remaining 5 home games is where we'll be picking up the points, with hopefully a couple of draws on the road to add to the pot.

3 wins and 1 draw shouldn't be beyond us in those 5 remaining home games.

I think we should all chill out a bit I have read the last 2 pages and there seems to be very little football commentary , virtually no mention of cheese and a lot of people squaring up to each other.

There is a reasonable chance the league is going to be abandoned this year anyway, I’m which case

we go again next year and Liverpool won’t win the league , alright we will be plunged into a dystopian nightmare world which is a cross between children of men and 12 monkeys - but hey what not to like

No, but if the relevant posters post endlessly and laughably on the official PL forums that we are too good to go down, hopefully the PL will see sense and allow us to stay up.
