A shame, as Leicester might improve now.

How is it crazy? They’ve been awful so far this season and those owners have already shown they are ruthless. I don’t like this ‘hire’em fire’em’ atmosphere that most clubs now deal in, but that’s the way it is now so I’d say this piece of news is par for the course and entirely expected.

I don't think so, Leicester have got progressively worse under him

I watched the match last night, both managers deserve the sack after that performance, truly awful awful football.

We get enough uninformed judgement of our management policy to criticize others without knowing the details.

How did they win the league a couple of years ago though? I thought Shakespeare was the brains behind Ranieri. Was it Nigel Pearson's legacy after all?

But isn't this the layman's view of the way we have treated our managers recently ? In truth, Leicester have been shocking recently (as last night demonstrated), and the owners obviously felt that they needed to act. Not too different to the Pozzo model when the second half of the last couple of seasons has provided us with awful (and relegation-form) football.

They've had an incredibly tough start to the season though, playing away to Arsenal and Man City with home games against Liverpool and Chelsea, given that and it was clear who was the brains behind Leicester's title charge, sacking him this early in the season seems extremely harsh.

True Leicester haven't exactly shown title-winning form since he took over, but it was still a huge improvement over Ranieri in 2016/17, and maybe Leicester have just leveled out and found their true level, which is that of a mid-table Premier League side, which is still comfortably above that of 2014/15.

Leicester fans don't seem too fussed Shakesphere has gone.

But they aren’t mid-table? They are in the bottom 3. You’re right to point out they have had tough fixtures but they aren’t getting good results against the other teams either. His poor run now is exactly the same amount of games that Ranieri went through and he got fired. They spent big money on Iborra and Ihaenacho and it isn’t working out. Shakespeare did well at the back end of last season but I always felt he was lucky to get given that job full-time and the popular consensus seems to be that he is a good coach, not so much as a manager.

Although winning the league was a monumental feat, the owners obviously can't see that they didn't have the infostruture last season to compete in the champions league and premier league, and their expectations are too high this season!

Sacking Shakesphere now is the way they think will improve their changes of remaining in the premier league, however whilst our owner is from a football family, Leicesters owners aren't and this decision could well see them making a visit to,the championship shortly!

They are unbeaten in the other fixtures against the "rest" having played two of them away. Room for improvement for sure, but not too shabby.

They picked up 29 points from 21 games under Shakespeare, which equates to 52 points over a whole season, enough to comfortably finish top 10 in most Premier League seasons. Ranieri had picked up 21 points from 25 games when he got fired, similar number of games yes, but obviously a much worse run of form which deserved the sack a lot more. This backs up my assertion that Leicester's natural level is neither that of a relegation-fighting side (like 2014/15) or a title-winning one (like the following season) but somewhere roughly halfway between. I'm just not sure what the owners expect them to be achieving this season.

  17. I wonder if it's as much the manner of their play. From what I've seen on telly it's fairly uninspiring and direct look for Vardy and see if he can score. They have spent a lot of money and don't have anything else about them really. Sort of situation Gino would pull the trigger.

I thought he was a likely sacking unless Leicester had a good start to the season. They are paying the price of picking a Rookie manager popular with the players. Rationally acting now gives them a good chance of avoiding relegation. Looks like a big Sam sort of appointment to install discipline among an underperforming group of players. What it also shows is that our owners are far superior in that they are effective football business owners who know how to run football clubs to make money, rather than wealthy successful business people who make lots of money and decide to have a football club.

To be fair to Gino, given the situation last season with Mazzarri, at least he tends to wait until the season is over these days!

Ey up.... Not been on here in ages. You lot look good this season don't you?! Wish we'd tried to get Silva in the summer rather than give lovely bloke Craig a bit longer to not train his players properly.

The players' attitudes basically stink, I haven't got a bloody clue why they stopped trying for Ranieri and turned it on again for Shakespeare, only for that to run out when it became clear that he is completely inept at this level. You can look at the fixtures and say that some were hard and some draws can easily become wins but make no mistake, the quality of football and tactical planning has been embarrassing. We shouldn't have given him the job on a permanent basis but clearly the higher ups were too scared of the ramifications of Jamie Vardy not having someone who lets him eat chicken nuggets after training or telling Kasper Schmeichel that an opposition free kick in our half is almost as good as a penalty when he's in goal.

The club has spunked an unholy amount of money on players with no idea how they'll fit in, at the same time leaving parts of the pitch horribly short on numbers and quality.

I don't particularly care who the owners appoint, it won't be remotely different or interesting anyway..... In case you couldn't tell i'm a bit fed up with the club at the minute, the way Leicester has gone about its business since winning the league has ruined football for me a little bit.

Good to hear from you Filbert, would be good if you could keep us updated, (we need a Filbert from every club on here IMO).

Very interesting to hear that winning the title and the aftermath has led to your current mood. Where do you think is the best place for a club like your, (ours), to finish to keep it's identiy? Europa League?

Was gonna reply but seems ‘Filbert’ the Leicester fan has put it eloquently enough and from someone much closer to the situation than I.

Leicester seem a bit like a Greek tragedy at the moment. Their greatest moment also being the main contributing factor to their downfall.

I do love reading the bbc comments sections after these events.

Full of the same boring old armchair supporters of other teams who have literally absolutely no clue as to the goings on at their own club let alone other clubs, and yet feel the need to air their strong unknowledgable views about how rediculous the decisions are.

How it's "ludicrous to sack a manager so early", "who do they think they are anyway sacking their manager so early".

    Bunch of numbnuts.

Maybe, but they'll always have that moment. I think most of us would trade a League title win for a few years of struggle afterwards.

I'm torn on the stature and identity thing really. Most of me doesn't want to support a stagnant West Brom style club or a team like Southampton who have an enviable identity as producing lots of young homegrown talent but will never achieve what we did in a one off. Clubs who you can more or less predict where they'll finish season after season. I just wanted to see some evolution, for the club to embrace the underdog mentality but push it on to the next level, in an Atletico kind of way - not that I would want or expect us to qualify for the Champions League every year. Basically every fan wants to have their cake and eat it don't they? To achieve success relative to the size of their club without becoming a glory-supported, doughy behemoth like Chelsea.

The problem has been complacency, no just from the players and their 'rags to riches' stories but from the fans, staff and owners too. How ******* arrogant is it to assume that Craig Shakespeare, a man with no experience of being a first team coach, would be good enough to take us to the top 7 this year simply because he was part of the title winning season? Jamie Vardy has lost his hunger and intensity. Riyad Mahrez hasn't played well in a very long time and is still sulking that no one wants to pay a lot of money for a player who has had one good season. Christian Fuchs is preoccupied with his clothing line and has openly stated he intends to quit football soon to become a kicker in the NFL (???) Andy King starts games because he's been at the club for ages and for no other reason. The list goes on and on and on.....

So to answer your question, (and stop venting) I don't know what the best place for a club like Leicester is now. The people that made it happen seem quite content to bask in the glow of it, safe in the knowledge that even when it's going horribly wrong they won't be questioned too harshly because they're immortals in the eyes of the city and the club now. We the fans however are left wanting to be entertained at the very least, with a tinge of sadness that those remarkable, drunken, ecstatic, heady days of us (or anyone else) winning the league in the fashion we did will probably never happen again.

Almost every sacking brings the same comments, presumably Leicester or Palace should have persevered until March before sacking their managers.
