    Agreed.

I think periodic 2-3 week "circuit breaker" hard lockdowns with opening up between are much more palatable then long periods of no normal life and slowly sliding the scale of restrictions up and down.
(But now with better understanding, allowing people outside more, masks to be mandatory, normal NHS appointments carried out)

If lockdown was short, would period not just spend more on hospitality either side of it?

You may be interested in the letter our county's Director of Public Health has sent all parents/carers of children in education in Hertfordshire (the grapevine says we're close to declaring a lockdown):

    https://primarysite-prod-sorted.s3....arents-and-carers-from-jim-mcmanus_230920.pdf

Something I find very indicative, bearing in mind we're pretty much a Tory stronghold (county council is Tory, the majority of borough/town councils are Tory and the majority of MPs are Tory) is they're laying the blame of the testing fiasco 'elsewhere' and hint that things are going to get a lot worse (their emphasis):

"Testing is run by national Government, not the County Council. We continue to work with Government to improve testing access and availability and continue to work with them to resolve the capacity problems in their system, but the County Council is not in charge of testing.

Seems to me like they're getting a lot of agro from people who can't get a test when required.

Yes, I think that all governmental advisors should be drawn from unrelated industries, even if it means that they have no experience of what they are meant to be an expert in.

And it shouldn't stop there. I hate to think how many politicians have got pension funds or ISA's that invest in businesses that are in some way affected by political decisions, we should kick them out too.

That’s different to the one I got back in June, which was definitely a ‘are you currently infected’ test in an attempt to establish the degree of asymptomatic infection within the general population. I got my (negative) result back within 3 days of the courier collecting the test...received the result via text, email & then post.

Right Said Fred have spoken out against the Lockdowns putting them at odds with Jedward in one of the crappest celebrity face offs of all time.

RSF getting a licking on Twitter for being idiots, their reply simply adding to the fun.

On the anti Lockdown side there is now RSF, Liam Gallagher, Ian Brown and the bloke from the Corrs. As someone noted, it’s no Live Aid.

I don’t think it matters much what they do. My son’s halls are currently C19 free, but if one person got infected it would go through there like wildfire. The corridors are barely wide enough for two people to pass, the communal areas small and all the bathrooms shared. It’s a block with about 100 bedrooms. Short of staying in their rooms all day and having a strict rota to take a dump if it happens, it happens. Even then it’s catered, so they can’t really avoid each other.

Only good testing and tracing can prevent it. At the point an outbreak develops nearby they could be then sent home. That might also have the consequence of spreading it, but not to all 100 of them and then across the 10s of thousands at the Uni.

Did you point out they are being illogical?
    Nothing can prevent it.

But a lot can be done to reduce the chances, but only if they acknowledge their own responsibilities in trying to keep social contact down, and you know that won't happen.

The 10pm thing may be arbitrary in the view of some but people still can't be responsible afterwards isn't the government's fault, spill outs have always led to crowded streets after kicking out time.

I read on the BBC that in Scotland the police had to break up 300 house parties this weekend. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-54323354

    Why won’t it happen?

I hope you are not going to join in with this open season on the young. Didn’t seem like the young crammed into Trafalgar Square with no masks on fighting the Police on Saturday. The idiots on social media complaining it’s all a conspiracy don’t seem young either. The pubs are full of middle aged people ignoring guidelines.

Sure some young people have flouted the rules, but most don’t and their occupations and living conditions make it much harder for many of them than judgemental old boomers twitching at the curtains.

We will end up with a 10.30pm street curfew or tighter lockdown with pubs and clubs going out of business.

I’ve already said most follow the rules. That’s what we saw on campus in all public areas.

But the problem is they have been put into almost impossible private circumstances. If you were sharing a block with 100+ people with 12 bathrooms, all eating together what exactly would you do? How would you follow the rules? Just stay in your room 24/7?

In theory localised herd immunity may work for an isolated and low-risk group. So coronavirus doing the rounds around campuses may not be such a bad thing in the long term. However due to the unknown long-term damage and the few vulnerable students it's something that will be prevented from happening as much as possible.

Liam is far from it, it's his muppet of a brother who is anti lockdown, Liam is the opposite and very much pro mask as he keeps of stating on social media.

This point isn't talked about much. The only way we can be semi-open at all is by the small group of highly exposed people having enough herd immunity. herd immunity amongst a tiny group, which slowly gets bigger and bigger is the only way to open up (without a vaccine)

But they’re only isolated if they are required to stay in their residences. Most universities are planning some face to face teaching (though I am deepely sceptical that it will happen).

Big lockdown in the North East.

Basically cannot meet up with anyone outside your own household.

Numbers must be petty bad up there .

You'd have though shellsuits would have provided some kind of protection.

Installed the NHS Ap on my phone. Doesn't work. Couldn't check in at the golf club yesterday, not convinced it isn't killing my battery life.
Meister Manor is a medium risk area apparently.
