A good news story from Thailand - a group of young boys and their coach found after 9 days in a cave.

Missing Thai boys found alive in caves

Bit like the Mine recuse in Chile a few years back.

Well I was not expecting that, this is great news, I thought they were gone for sure.

    Very good news.

Do they know how to get them out?

The headline I saw suggested that may be a challenge.

Yeah I've been following this expecting to see 13 bodies found. I'm bl**dy delighted. However, they've a way to go yet before they get out of there safely.

Apparently the Thai government are sending down FOUR MONTHS food and other supplies, as it seems the only way they can get them out is to teach them to dive, so they are sending in people to do this.

First I had heard of this until today, rumours that Neymar is offering his services have so far been denied. Apparently they are being sent some Plato to read.

Have they found the Argentine, German or Spanish national teams yet?

Its a huge undertaking that. Not only are they going to have to learn to dive, they are going to have to dive under conditions that requires years of diving experience and knowledge. I've dived recreationally loads of times, but I would never have the guts to dive in confined, dark spaces like that.

I have also dived into large, dark, dank abysses but enough about your mothers.

Going to make a great film.

I'm casting Tom Hanks as the expert diver, Ryan Reynolds as the risk taking rookie who saves them, Margot Robbie as his love interest and Kevin Spacey as the peado football coach.

Apparently they were 6 miles from the entrance.....6 bloody miles. Just amazing that they found them and amazing they are still alive. Getting them out will be even more astonishing.

If news crews can shine torches on them and talk to them, as they appeared to be doing this morning on the news, then I am willing to bet £5 that it will NOT be four months until they get them out.

I believe it was specialist divers rather than news crews ?

They are 2.5 miles from the cave entrance which is still one h3ll of a distance.

As TUD said, it was specialised divers not news crews. The situation seems quite serious as there are monsoon type rains coming in the next few days.

Sone dude has died while ferrying oxygen bottles to the kids through a lack of oxygen..........

If a retired navy diver has died, then there is literally no chance for any of them getting out by diving

I really don't understand why they don't get a whole sequence of industrial pumps to drain the cave. Surely 20 of them working in tandem would put a huge dent in the water level?

  21. Otter

Using industrial pumps they said they would be able to lower the water level by 1cm per day; there is so much water to remove and then it's rainy season to boot. If the group are relatively safe for the time being and food and basis sanitation can be supplied it looks like they will have to sit it out.

But I thought they had decided they had to get them out in the next 48 hrs as the water level will rise so much with the rains that they won't be able to stay where they are.
I have a nasty feeling about this.

The latest seems to be that they're not safe and some sort of emergency extraction is being teed up. Oxygen levels in the void they're in are dropping and the monsoon rains on the way will only make their exit harder.

I suspect the oxygen levels may be a bit of click bait thrown in by the press, (otherwise the 13 of them would have probably suffocated by now), but the fact that water levels can rise in that cave seems to be nailed on. It's a sh*t situation and I'm concerned that it's going to end badly.

Am I being thick, or can they not just have hundreds of pumps working in tandem? Surely there comes a point where enough pumps will drain faster than it fills?

Four boys rescued; an extraordinary feat and I am in awe of the courage and skill of everyone who has been involved in the operation, including Saman Gunan who made the ultimate sacrifice. The word "Hero" is overused in my opinion but these divers truly are. Fingers crossed that tomorrow's attempt is as successful.

Four more rescued today (Monday), leaving four boys & the coach remaining in the cave.

When the original story broke, I didn't think that any of them would be rescued - I'm delighted to have been wrong.

My theory is they'll rescue the last 4 boys tomorrow and leave the coach until the rainy season is over for being such an idiot.

This has been a marvellous story. Heroic and brave behaviour from the boys and rescuers alike. It is so good to see 8 boys out already - hope the other four do come out tomorrow.
I feel sorry for the coach. The caves were open - not restricted - and if there is blame it should be on those who determine when the caves can be accessed. The coach and boys had been in the caves many times. Like a good captain on a ship the coach will be the least rescued. No punishment could be worse for him than what he has experienced in the last two weeks. I doubt he will ever forgive himself - even if others do.

The parents of the children have said they don't blame the coach and, to be fair, it is thanks to him that the children were still alive when they were found.

All 12 boys and their coach now rescued. Tremendous. Sad for the navy seal who died.
If people want to talk about MBEs and OBEs , instead of celebrities nobodies, I would give medals to the volunteers who risked their own lives in making this rescue possible. That is bravery and heroism.
