[NOT HAPPENING] (but might) Relegated Team Players

What players would you lkie to try and poach from the teams that are likely to go down?

I think we can safely say WBA will be one, and the other two strongest candidates IMO are Southampton and Stoke? Though if you want to include players from other possible teams that might be relegated then by all means do so.

Taking D Tel FF stats (which are not perfect but over a season give pause for thought), the following have outperformed their WFC equivalent players:

Hegazi; Gibbs; Bertrand; Soares; Stephens

Tadic; Brunt

Rondon; J Rodriguez; Shaquiri; Austin; Choupo-Moting

Of that lot, Stephens could be worth looking at. He's Cornish!

Btw, the top 3 'bottom half' players are Gross, Richie & Murray.

Murray is this year's random 'Deeney style' England call up candidate (because he takes pens).

 

In an ideal world gibbs from wba and shaqri (spelling) from stoke. Maybe lemina, otherwise not a great selection to choose from tbh. Mounie from Huddersfield maybe if they go down

 

On the D Tel FF stats, marginally less effective than Gray.

 

Forgot Bertrand was at soton, he' quite highly rated and would be an upgrade on holebas

 

Any former Arsenal players.

 

Tadic from Southampton but could see him costing a fair bit

 

Bertrand, Gibbs and my 3 legged dog are all better than Holebas

Redmond would also be looking for a move and might suit us with his pace, but can see Howe being interested in him.

Foster, if we want a keeper of the same standard as Gomes

 

Gibbs,Bertrand,Tadic but I expect they will all be quite expensive.
Evans I suppose would be much sought after and too pricey.
I know Palace won't go down but is 'Square',their left back,worth a look or has his injury put the tin hat on his career?

 

I read somewhere that Jonny Evans has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for £3m if relegated. Taking in to account what we spend on defenders - he would be perfect. Better than what we have, and about our price. Sadly, he'll be going to somebody from about 8th position upwards.

 

Your dog has 50% more legs than Holebas so an in built advantage.

Not a chance.

I could only envisage Zaha leaving if it was to one of either Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea or Liverpool.

 

Roy has gotten him to stay on his feet, more times than not. It's hard to imagine how could he could be in a front line like Liverpools

 

Austin would in theory be pretty good for the lone striker role, though in reality I'd be very wary of him given his injury record and our physios.

Most Saints fans would be very happy to see Redmond leave, and don't rate Boufal or Tadic much more highly. Tadic is probably the pick of the bunch, but is also almost 30.

Hegazi could be good - but is he enough of an upgrade? Dawson is Brom's best player, but RB is one area we don't really need to spend money on.

Lemina is feasible, but CM is also not a high priority.

Bertrand and Gibbs are the obvious ones, though neither are completely convincing (and both will also be 29 soon).

Shaqiri is also maybe worth a punt - surprisingly only 26 as well. I'd prefer a player with more pace on the wings, but if we can't get Deulofeu then we could do much worse than him.

 

Spurs are always linked to him but I think he's a Gooner?
I would imagine he would leave in the summer.
Apparently he's not fit at present and hasn't trained during the two week break.

He is an Arsenal fan, but he already chose Utd over Arsenal in his last transfer so I think he'd ultimately base his decision on what he thinks is best for his career.

 

Doubt we'll be going for any of these players, the vast majority will be out of our wage bracket and most of them are no better than what we have. If Stoke, Southampton and West Brom are the three to go down, their players will be on wages reflective of established Premier League teams with far bigger budgets than us - see the thread on Club Finances in the other section.

I think the players I wouldn’t be unhappy about signing from the current bottom 3 are...

West Brom:
Gibbs, Hegazi, Phillips (admittedly based entirely on how he played at the vic a few weeks back), Rodriguez

Southampton:
Bertrand, Stephens, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Tadic, Redmond, Gabbiadini (No Austin as he’s too injury-prone; Lemina simply hasn’t looked very good this season)

Stoke:
Butland, Shaqiri

Obviously that’s a lot of players, I would probably only want 2/3 max out of that pool and there aren’t many there I would expect to be in our best XI. It does probably reflect how poor a lot of our squad players are that there are so many positions that need strengthening this summer.

Was discussing this the other day. In reality most of the players would be on more money than we would be paying. Hence why Gibbs went to WBA. Werent we linked with Lemina and Boufal neither have set the world alight either. in fact everytime i see Lemina I think how lucky we were to get Hughes instead.

We need a left back so Bertrand at Saints would be my pick. Why go back for Gibbs? Dawson at WBA as well, he can play Centre back and right back and fairly consistent.

Personally we need to focus on the defence in the summer. Yes if a striker comes up in our price bracket then fine. But its the defence that has let us down and held us back.
