I like the fact that this thread has an image of Jim Bowen on the front. I hope we sign this guy and he looks like the Bullseye presenter.

André Martín Carrillo Díaz (born 14 June 1991) is a Peruvian professional footballer who plays for the Premier Leagues most exciting and up and coming English club Watford FC and the Peru national team, primarily as a winger or a second striker.

Sadly for Carrillo and WFC the Home Office department who sort these things set off on a works jolly to Cromer in Norfolk on Friday morning and things turned sour over the weekend. I'm not sure anything will get rubber stamped anytime soon.

On the work permit issue, naturalised Portuguese citizenship takes 6 years. Carrillo joined Sporting in 2011. Worst case scenario he could just become Portuguese.

Knowing Gino that's probably why they've delayed it haha :p

Btw, I don't disagree with your earlier post, just the reports seemed so sure he had signed I thought the WP was the only explanation as to why it's not been officially announced (like with Rich)

I suspect it is the portugal naturalisation issue - he has only played 3 times in last 18 months and with Peru 23rd in the rankings he needs to have played 60% of games - so I suspect they are doing it the EU citizen way

http://soccersouls.com/2017/08/21/w...rd-signing-everything-you-need-to-know-about/ Good little write up on him here.
    Especially like this bit

"The 26-year old is known for his blistering pace and trickery on the ball, and he effortlessly glides past defenders in the attacking third. His close control when on the ball, combined with his ability to weave past opponents with speed and power make him a real asset. The Peruvian is someone who can go wide or cut inside, and can hit a fierce shot at goal with his stronger right-foot.

Explosive, with pace to burn, technically gifted and with the knack of scoring and creating chances, Carrillo could turn out to be the right personnel on the right flank in the 4-3-3 system that Silva is trying to implement at Watford this season."

Amazing transformation this season from a team with zero pace to one with blistering pace across the front 3.

Would be surprised if a WP wasn't granted based on his stats.

    Peru squad 46 times
    Starting eleven 24 times
    Substituted on 12 times
    On the bench 10 times
    Suspended 10 times
    Injured 2 times

He also played in Peru's most recent WCQ's in November (2016) and March (2017).

I think they use the last 24 months (to avoid old timers past their best retiring on PL wages) - not 60% in that window i suspect

    You could well be right.

This is what it looks like for that period of time

    Since 2015

    13 starts
    3 on bench
    14 suspended/not in squad

Peru are 15 in the FIFA World Rankings. He'd therefore need to have played 45% or more of their games in the last 24 months to get a work permit.

Since August 2015 he's played 8 games out of 23 so far I can tell. He'd need to have played 11.

Looks like another appeal is on the horizon.

How would that work with the deal being a loan, therefore no significant fee? The wages we pay would probably be whatever Benfica pay him, which is not guaranteed to be above the percentage required.

As mentioned elsewhere, Carrillo is now eligible for a European passport. An application for that may be the delay.

That is my view - i missed their elevation to 15 (last i saw was 23) but i never challenge UEA on fact!

No idea how a loan factors in the work permit system. I can't believe unless he's very far along the process already he'd be talking a couple of weeks to get a Portuguese passport however. Surely there's reams of paperwork to fill out, interviews, tests, ceremonies and all sorts first?

I've taken it from FIFA's website.

Despite all the speculation on his board, I can't believe the club would waste weeks of time negotiating a deal with Benfica and the player if they didn't think he would be allowed to play in England.
