Some like that :). I must admit I'm picturing her in the 80s rather than in her 80s.(ps she's 70 in May, just checked).

Like others have said spending 25 mill on a position that isn’t top of the list for fixing .

The areas I believe we need to recruit in order if priority

1- LB who can defend as well as attack

2- Striker who has at least the basic level of technique required to be a professional footballer who can also hold the ball and link play . If he could score goals too that would be marvelous.

3- CB who can lead the line , organise , pace and pass.

4 - Goalkeeper who can tip shots around the post rather than into the path of opposition striker .

    5- Winger

6- CM back up for Doucoure/ Cleverley

Good shout - Lascelles is comfortably better than Mawson. He's quick as well.

Since when do the Pozzos spend £25m on one player?

I'm now picturing a Stevie/Hattie Jaques hybrid singing 'Drehhhmsz',' 'Rhihhhhhernhn' 'Surhhhruh' and others from her back catalogue.
Kenneth Williams on drums and Sid James on percussion, naturally!

Usually I would agree with you but Alfie Mawson is a player with huge potential and his worth could massively increase if he was to have a good couple of seasons with us. He is still only 23 and has already got plenty of experience for a centre half of his age. Don't forget he is English so his value will certainly be inflated if he gets capped for England's senior team, which he may well do as he was impressive in the 2017 under 21 Euro competition.

Decent proven centre backs are not cheap, like any other position, but I’d say of all the positions, on a like for like basis it would be easier to pick a young up and coming CB from the lower leagues. Centre backs don’t need to be as skillfull as the other positions and I think the attributes you need from them are more readily found. That’s why spending £25m on his guy seems out of whack from what we’ve come to expect from the Pozzos.

I really don't get the hype around him. As far as I can tell he seems to have scored a few high profile goals from set pieces and therefore earned a reputation as a brilliant £20m+ defender???

Even just in the last 2 seasons against Watford we've seen him gift goals to both Capoue and Richarlison via shocking, basic errors, both of which decided the game

    Not for me

I understand what you are saying and agree with it but I just thought I would mention that I thought he was fantastic in our 0-0 draw with Swansea last season, I remember being jealous that they had picked him up for the price they had and thinking that he would certainly be England's future central defender after the game. I think he won man of the match in this particular game. I know he has made some mistakes against us in the past and most probably other teams as well but Swansea fans seem to think he has been a stand out performer for them, which admittedly can't be too difficult seeming as they have been crap for the past two seasons.

A publication saying 10.8 million valuation. For that I'd risk it.

Seems the Swansea hierarchy dont care if they get relegated if they are considering selling another of their "good" players.

Given Carvahal’s comment the other day that he wants ‘lobsters but likely can only get sardines’ (odd analogy I know!), I’d bank on Swansea not having much money to spend. So selling Mawson for £15m+ might allow them to buy 3 or 4 £5m players. If it happens, that’s likely their thought plan.

Who are the 3 or 4 £5m players ? I'd prefer to buy them tbh.

They may have taken a pragmatic view that relegation is inevitable, and if so, it might be financially sensible to get top price for Mawson now. If they are indeed relegated this season his value will likely be lower.

If they throw money they haven't got at trying to stay up and still go down their future won't be too bright. Perhaps it better to go down financially stable and come back stronger like Burnley did.

The analogy indicates either that he's Portuguese or that he's been talking to Eric Cantona. Maybe both.

Or maybe a part-exchange for Capoue and Prodl or Britos.

Whilst he has more value due to his age, I would prefer Prodl or Britos in the team now than a promising youngster.

To be honest Prodl has been bloody awful since he came back into the team. I'm happier with Wague and Kabasele.

Yes, Prodl and Britos were mentioned in the email I was responding to but the current pairing deserves to start just now. I'm hoping Prodl can recapture his pre-injury form.

Perhaps thats why none of the other injured players have come back ? Perhaps our "medical dept" have broken them all ?

Would be a great signing and plenty of years to still develop further

I agree on both counts. But if he did part exchange Prodl or Britos we still have plenty of experienced centre backs left - even if none of them are, like Britos, left-footed

I think he is a busted flush. If he left in Jan I wouldn’t be too concerned

All well and good having a left footed centre back but if they aren’t good enough what’s the point, as for Prodl, can’t see him recovering his form think this injury was the last nail in the coffin, realistically if we have ambitions we need a centre half who can play football not just win headers
