Agree. We can only but dream of signing the likes of Paulo Vernazza, Pat Rice or Brian Talbot.

English, so fits Scott Andy’s homegrown quota.

25m plus. Seems very pricey for a ordinary Centre back. If he does turn up I hope he proves me wrong.

£8m for his ability. £17m for his nationality and home grown status.

It was the signing of Cliff Holton from Arsenal that convinced my dad (the family had recently moved out to Watford) to start going to Watford rather than travelling up to Highbury to watch his football. If we are going for Arsenal players I would prefer us consider Holding or Chambers

Do bookmakers odds reported by the Hertfordshire Mercury count as 'strong rumours' these days?

And John Macvie was British . And Indeed when he band was Peter Greens invention he decided to name the band in honour to the unsung heroes of rock music , the bass player and the drummer . In this case Mick Fleetwood and John Macvie . Hence Fleetwood Mac.

EDIT apologies , just noticed others have stated similar.

My Choice for a new CB, if we could prise him away from Newcastle, would be Jamall Lascelles. Maybe they could be tempted by a swap & cash deal for Deeney, that is if they really want him as rumoured?

Better shout than Mawson IMHO, but can't see Newcastle letting him go unless they get relegated. He is one of the few that has any kind of bond with the fans

If you think WFC's discipline is bad, what about Fleetwood Mac?
Peter Green went potty, threatening to shoot the accountant that could not stop song royalties being paid to him...
Jeremy Spencer "went to the shops" & was never seen again...
Danny Kirwan drank himself to death....
John McVie married Christine Perfect from Chickenshack & they had a "tempestuous" relationship...
Only good old Mick Fleetwood seemed to stay sane!

If we did a swap deal for Deeney, that would be a good thing as Lascelles could become our club captain Too.

Young HG defender who has been praised for his performances this season and is a leader at the back. Also 18 months left on his contract, so could be available at a cut price fee.

Disgusting. Get his **** away from my club.

    Massive potential there.

Think he's a good player myself. Made a couple of mistakes against us at times but he's young ffs.

Bit surprised people are saying no to him.

I'm now picturing Sam and Mick looking lovingly into eachother's eyes singing said song.
Actually, after everything before, it would have rounded that particular evening off perfectly.

I think people are suggesting that a potential £25m spend on a promising british young error-prone CH is perhaps not the best use of £25m. If Gino can work his magic and he arrives for c£5m without limiting our ability to strengthen in the areas we really need strengthened, then great.

I think people are generally only saying no to him at £25m. Do we have that sort of money to spend on a defender who is not the finished article?

  30. GoingDown

    GoingDown "The Stability"

That's the type of player that Gino likes to buy. That's also, sadly, the going rate for an English unfinished article.

Don't forget Gino's 'kidnap the owners' tactic that got us Chalobah and Hughes for a pittance. He won't pay £25m.

Expect that figure to double, nay triple if he has a good season with us (and has a long contract)

I would be perfectly happy for him to come, but I think I share the vast majority of people's sentiment in thinking £25m is wildly overpriced. By comparison, Leicester got Harry Maguire, a more developed player, for an initial £12m, rising to £17m with add ons, last summer. More than doubling that initial outlay on Mawson does not quite add up, even if it must be recognised that Maguire had just been relegated and Mawson has not been (yet).

Rate him, but surely we can still get better players for £25m

  34. Burnsy

More to the point, Swansea bought Mawson for £5m from a Championship club and are now quoting £25m for a player who has performed slightly above average for just over one season. He’s got potential but I’d be looking to replicate what they’ve done, rather than be the ones who pay the vastly inflated fee at the end of it.

  35. Saw her supporting Tom Petty last year; great show, but the word 'matronly' springs to mind...
