We're all Ayr United fans in our hearts.

It's because of our late revered player/manager then manager Neil McBain who played for Ayr Utd, Man U, Liverpool and Everton before managing us twice (in the late 20s and 30s and again in the late 50s), going back to Ayr then blotting his copybook by going to L*t*n. After the war he managed teams as diverse as New Brighton and Estudiantes (yes!), before sandwiching a second spell with Watford between spells for Ayr again.

Reputedly he was sacked from Watford in 1959 for drunkeness - alternatively he didn't see eye to eye with a certain Cliff Holton who he was playing as a wing-back that season. (Burgess came in, moved Holton up front and he scored 48 times as we won promotion from Div. 4.).

That's the kind of list we Ayr fans have been waiting for all our lives.
A wing-back in the Fifties? That's forward thinking!

Not everyone, Jumbolina. I'll stick with my Cliff Holton Special. And I think they're being worse than lazy - cynical, more like, because , as you suggest, they know many people will buy it, regardless.
Globally, sports fashion wear is very big business, and there are people who spend their entire careers plotting how to sell more and how to maximise profits. We could probably have a debate about whether or not this is a good or a bad thing.
Does anyone else remember Graham Taylor expressing disgust at advertising logos going onto the fronts of shirts, when that first started. I cannot remember exactly what he said, but it was maybe something along the lines of 'I'm leaving football if that is going to happen' - pretty strident and outspoken, at any rate.

Indeed it is. And Cliff Holton would be practically the last person you would have put in that position. He was just not built for it. Wing-half, more like. A waste of a very good striker, but the thinking (?) behind it may have been he was skilful but not very fit (he was only a part-timer!) and he wouldn't be required to run the length of the pitch too often! In the light of present-day football, McBain got just about everything wrong there.

Kerrist!!! If they did paypal the amount of business they would get from me.

It's the PL badges for €1.50 - remind me how much we're scalped for these...

Playing in red in Wales eh?

Presume the black and white shades won't clash with Swansea.

But it would be difficult to tell the teams apart if watching in black and white!

I though this was absolute balls until I found this
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...000-homes-still-have-black-and-white-TVs.html

To view TV in the UK on a black and white set would require at the very least an older free view decoder with RF modulated output since analogue transmissions have long since been switched off and the only Black and white screens available are professional tuner-less monitors.

I thank you for prompting me to look up this interesting statistic.

[HERESY] I thought the kit looked really good - even with the sponsors logo plastered over it. [/QUOTE]
