Isn’t that rather the point? If you spend 18 million quid on someone, you expect them to be able to control a football rather better than Gray does. Otherwise you will be disappointed. So Peneranda can’t be a worse signing.

Yes, the point I made in my comment is the point. I don't know how I could have lent more heavily towards acknowledging judgement on Gray, considering I even mentioned in brackets how our talking of him is correct, and went on to explain the caveat about Penaranda. As it happens though, you would still have to give Gray credit for the goals that he has scored, that have at times earned us both points and progression (although sadly not this season) - Gray had a decisive role in the FA Cup semi, for example. He has scored double figures in goals for us, and played a significant amount of minutes. None of those things can be said of Penaranda, despite the fact that he has been with us for years, is now 23 and theoretically cost in the double figures of millions.
Well yes, as I said, we didn't really truly pay that, but that's pretty irrelevant in assessing a player's impact unless we think we can somehow trace the exact money given to Burnley for him having some decisive impact in them finishing in the position they did and us not. West Ham were an actual rival to us this season, and eventually escaped where we did not, so a far closer relation to us than Burnley have been in recent years, yet I don't think we would be assessing Quina more negatively because we gave them money for him.

This is as much down to the clubs lack of "parenting" as it is down to the player. We really do treat our young talent badly, shipping them all over, not playing them when we keep them here. No wonder they get dissillusioned. Dahlberg being a prime example.
Surely the Pozzos can just simply arrange a hit ? I'm sure we'll have him insured for a decent sum. There's really no point having Italian owners if they don't use their connections. Then use the proceeds to buy someone decent....would be just like a new signing.
i'm surprised we haven't caught Dahlberg acting out to be honest. Of all our youngsters, I'd say his transfer in hindsight was the most bizarre one. Why buy a hot prospect if you won't play him or loan him out?
I'm not sure why he would be sacked for getting his leg over. That said, no big loss if he does go. He's shown absolutely nothing to back up the hype apart from one half decent goal against Coventry reserves.

I have always thought he looked decent when given a chance, he just wasn't given a chance very often. He was playing regular football in Spain, got transferred here where he was going to be "huge" then not played, if that had happened to me, I'd probably ony be half assed when it came to training or reserve matches, as well. If you give young men obscene amounts of money, and very little guidance, they will inevitably act like idiots. Now we have dropped down a league and those that consider themselves too good for the Championship want away, this could be the time for him to actually earn his money. New league, new manager, clean slate. As for that video, a bit of an ass twerking in a thong, is something you can see on most rap videos.
