Just what every fan wants to hear.

  3. We always go into a transfer window with Dux saying its going to be quiet. I suspect there is a little more truth in it this year, as we were one of the bigger spenders last Summer, and the money, though massive, is finite.

I suspect this is where Gino tightens the purse strings for a little while, but that said, there seem to be some situations that are not favoured by the idea of a 'quiet' window. Things could change if we see players moving on for big money though, obviously.

I can't see Gray staying, so possibly some expenditure there reflecting whatever we recoup for him, and similar if the Beast heads out - Penaranda has cast something of a shadow over himself as well so seems almost a bit of a risk. I can't believe we are not going to strengthen at the back given the age and injury prone nature of some in defence; even with Cathcart returning, I can't see us getting another season out of Britos and Holebas, who are getting on a bit, as much as I like them.

I reckon maybe quiet will translate into 'low key' rather than low movement.

We had better strengthen the defence and strikeforce or it will be a tough season next year, esp if we lose Doucoure and possibly Richard Lee's son.

Quieter doesn't mean we're not doing anything. Means we aren't going to see 6+ new players in like previous window. We'll see some departures (Britos is a Free Agent) and some loanee returns/departures.

I suspect there will still be quite a bit of activity. I seem to recall something similar being said last season, and we still signed quite a few players.

I think we'll try to sign Deulofeu and Carrillo will go back. The money earmarked for that transfer will be directed towards the Deulofeu deal.

We won't get away with the defence we have for another season. The risk is far too high and a little tightening up defensively would go a long way to improve results. With that in mind we surely will be looking to sign a left back and central defender.

A lot depends on keeping Doucoure, but if he does go, then it will be a big boost to funds. Not all of it will go on transfers, as we will be doing stadium works this summer it seems.

We could see quite a few departures. Carrillo, Britos, Kaboul, Okaka, Gray and Zeegelaar I expect to leave the club. I don't think we'll take up the option on Ndong, seeing as he's not had a look in yet.

Pendaranda will be coming as well, which may see Richarlison go, although seeing as his form has been so poor that could put an end to Watford getting big offers for him.

Dahlberg is coming too, although we've already signed him.

So if Okaka and Gray do both leave, we will certainly be signing a new striker as well. Hernandez won't be coming next season, which is a shame, although he could be used in any deal involving Deulofeu.

Pendaranda won't be coming. If he does he will just take up a squad place like Success did. Not good enough after such early promise.
If Doucoure leaves he will leave a massive hole to fill. We will end up using much of the fee we receive for selling him to sign someone whose not as good.
We will need to replace all leavers with better. We will need a stronger squad than we had this year just to tread water. Would be sad to lose Hernandez who looks a real prospect.

We need anything but a quiet summer.

Two centre backs, two wingers (unless we keep Deulofeu and Carillo), two strikers, two left backs and a replacement for Doucoure.

    Paco Alcacer swap for Hernandez
Gray and Okaka out - one more forward in
Britos and Holebas out - left sided c/b / lb in
    Delofeu & Karnezis permanent
Doucoure will go but no one will pay the right dosh for Rich - Replacement will be signed - Lemina if Saints go down
    One more centre back in
Success back and Pernaranda arrives - one gets loaned out as neither proven so can't risk 2 spots
    Amrabat sold

Peter Schmeichel, goalie, begat Kasper Schmeichel, goalie.

Richard Lee, goalie, begat Richarlison, winger.

Agreed. If they haven't shown continued and consistant promise by the age of 20 then they should retire.

I think we should cash in on Doucoure, especially as he seems to have had his head turned with all the talk of the top six clubs wanting him.

As for replacing him, do we really have to?

Because IMO we already have some great MF players who could do almost, if not as good a job as he has done. We have the likes of Chalobah, Hughes, Cleverly to name but three, and there are others too.

Maybe we could bring in another MF player or two, but they do not have to be of automatic 1st team standard, because as I said we already have those type of players to fill those slots. Good backup squad players, possibly youngsters who are just on the cusp of making the breakthrough to the next level could probably to fill the bill.

So you think he has shown over the last 2 years that he's ready to make a major contribution in the prem ?

The 3 you name are all good players but Doucs is in a different league to them which is why he will move on. None of those have the B2B presence that Doucs has so the team would be seriously weakened.

That determination should be made next season. I won't judge a player that's been passed around from club to club because of work permit issues.

If he ends up **** for us, fair enough.

Will peneranda even get a permit next season? Feels like he is less likely than 2 years ago when he had wonderkid status. These days he’s a washed up drunkard?

Can we please get rid of:

    Holebas
    Britos
    Kaboul
    Wague
    Hoban
    Carrillo
    Ndong
    Gray
    Sinclair

Don't care who we get in.

He's been in Spain long enough to qualify for Spanish citizenship, if that's sorted soon (if it hasn't been already) then it won't be a problem.

  27. Alternatively, he could become a Catalan activist, flee Spain in fear of arrest then be granted political refugee status.

Or does that only work in Germany, Belgium and Scotland?

If he does come, I reckon he will go out on a season long loan to Sheffield Wednesday or one of our other nursery clubs to harden him up.

There were reports in Spain that he'd applied for a Spanish passport and the end of last year.

Even when he was at Granada playing well, he was very, very raw with some terrible decision making. He's not too dissimilar to Success - pacy, powerful, bit more skilful but similar in terms of end product. I'd be surprised if he's a regular starter next season.

I can see there being a bit of a saga over Doucoure this summer. Can easily see a situation where he knows (through his agent) that there is serious interest from 2 or 3 of the big clubs and maybe a couple abroad too) and makes it known that he wants to go. The problem I forsee is that I’m just not sure any of them will pay what I believe we would want and would try and lowball us to rock the boat. I think we would be asking £30m-£40m+ and I can’t see it happening. Can see Gino naming his price and it’s up to them to meet it.

Richarlison, I think will be staying. I throughly expect us to get one more year from him with ‘consistency’ being the aim. Then he can move upwards with everyone’s blessing I’m sure. But again, for him to move this summer, I think it would take a big club to offer more money than I think they’d be prepared to right now.

I expect Britos to leave. I also think Zeegelaar, Pantillimon, Carrillo, Ndong, Sinclair and Wague will go. Hoban may be released which would be a shame.

I think one of Okaka or Gray will go but not both. If Gray is assured he will get a chance, he may just hang on and I personally think there’s more chance of Okaka angling for a move.

In terms of what we need if it’s going to be quiet as mentioned? If the above happens, then we will need replacements for Carrillo and Zeegelaar definitely. Penaranda may be seen as Carrillo’s. We need definitely one quality CB, two if we can shift any of the others on our books. A replacement maybe for Doucoure and also for whichever striker leaves.

If we do have a quiet summer I think we’ll go down. Our centre back options are horrific. Marriapa should be nowhere near a regular starting slot.

We don't really need a busy summer. 3-4 players would do us fine, if they were the right players. We've got some issues, but certainly nothing that would require the whole squad to be replaced. Couple of good quality defenders and a good lone forward and we'd be a very decent side (assuming we don't lose anyone, of course).
