I always thought of Pereyra as being suited in the number 10 but whenever players get tight to him, he falls to pieces. He’s just not physical enough for it, or quick enough to get away from it. I think he enjoys the space he’s afforded out wide.

    Reports of Pereyra to Torino.

I think I'd cry if that happened. Only explanation I'd accept would be if he wanted his little boy to grow up in Italy. An outstanding footballer who we haven't seen the best of yet.

Injury prone but technically superb. Hopefully this year is the year we see his best. Doubt he'll leave unless we get great money and have a replacement lined up

Watford won't be selling him unless the player himself expresses a desire to leave.

Lazy journalism linking Wally with his former players perhaps? This would be a surprise if it went through. There's a great opportunity for him to carry over his end-of-season form into next season, and finally show everyone what a top player he can be in the Premier League. The cobwebs from the knee injury seem to have finally gone.

From a business point of view, a season of him playing consistently near his best would see his value sky rocket. He is nowhere near peak value right now. Even so it would take a bumper offer from Torino to tempt Gino into selling now.

Pereyra himself has always seemed happy at Watford - maybe a reflection of his character more than anything, but he doesn't strike me as someone who desperately wants away. Nothing really points to this one happening.

From a Torino-based website (which I'm sure is probably where the wobby got their story from), translated poorly by Google......

Mercato Toro, Pereyra target: negotiations with Watford start
It is hunting for the midfielder. And for the Chiriches idea defense

    of - Giampiero Timossi

"Interested Pereyra, because at Turin they claim that purchases will be made only to "raise the quality of the rose already available". Interess Roberto Pereyra because the player of Watford and Argentina has the characteristics that serve the new midfield designed by Walter Mazzarri, for the next season: it is a natural right that in the past has also played on the left, always with a marked offensive propensity. It has quality and is ductile. This is why they tell the Taurus that Pereyra has what it takes for the cause. Not only that: the age, 27, allows him to be a player of experience, but certainly not at the end of the race. And the 1.5 million salary is in the parameters of his new destination, where he would have the chance to find Mazzarri, the coach who drove him in his best season in the Premier. Interest, Pereyra, because it has that extra touch that coaches like so much: it can run on the wing, dictate the time in the middle of the field, mess up the opposing planes on the trocar. Touches of class that also have a certain assonance with the nickname of Pereyra, called "El Tucu", abbreviation of Tucumano, that is of Tucuman, his native province. The operation that the sports director of Torino, Gianluca Petrachi, would like to conduct in port has already been started and the promises seem good: the midfielder is interested in Torino and Pereyra is (very) attracted by the chance to wear the grenade shirt. You can do it, but you have worked on unlit lights: the Argentine is owned by Watford and the English club is from the Pozzo family, always difficult customers to deal with. The price of the player's card? The peak there was, in fact, in July 2014, when Pereyra passed from Udinese (the parent company of the Wells) to Juventus: onerous loan for 1.5 million and redemption set at 14 million and exercised the following year. After two seasons, two championships, two Italian Supercups, as many Italian Cups and a right thigh injury and a relapse that kept him off the field for over three months, Pereyra left Juve and in August 2016 he was sold to Watford for 13 million. These are the figures on which the negotiations will have to start.

Work in progress, difficult operation, not impossible. That could have an acceleration already in the next days. At the World Championships the Argentine will not go: he stays in the Seleccion lap, but pays the competition and a not particularly brilliant season. Waiting for the developments of the Pereyra operation, the ds Petrachi also moves on other objectives. And for the defense here is another element that could raise the qualitative rate of the grenade group. The new goal is Vlad Chiriches, 29, central defender of Napoli and the Romanian National........................."
    (article continues on Chiriches)

    After you've made some sense out of the tinpot translation - two things stand out: "the chance to find Mazzarri, the coach who drove him in his best season in the Premier";
and "sports director of Torino, Gianluca Petrachi, would like to conduct in port has already been started and the promises seem good: the midfielder is interested in Torino and Pereyra is (very) attracted by the chance to wear the grenade shirt".

First point - considering Pereyra only made 12 appearances before his season-ending injury, this statement is obviously utter nonsense.

Second point - unless the translate tool has completely changed the narrative, then they're saying both parties have spoken and Roberto is keen. What with all the tapping up issues going on elsewhere, you'd have to assume permission had been granted by Watford - in which case I'd be worried as this would indicate the club is open to selling him. Lets hope this statement carries as much credibility as the one above it.

Very few of those Italian articles on him have suggested a valuation, but those that have say it's £13m - another reason to believe the whole thing is total rubbish.

    Sounds about right, doesn’t it?

We wouldn’t sell for that because of the hassle of finding an effective replacement but we’d sell for £20m. £17m?

I miss the haphazard machine translations from the Italian which were a hallmark of the Zola season.

    Proust had his madeleine.

We have our ‘raise the quality of the rose already available’.

If they want someone with a marked offensive propensity, why don't they just sign ITKJim or others on here who would cost less than €13 million?

If Roberto, as mentioned in the report, is the kind of player that can mess up the opposing planes on the trocar, then we should do all we can to hold on to him.
I don't know of many players that are capable of this.

56 goals in 262 league appearances, 38 in Serbia, the rest in Italy. Pretty good for an attacking midfielder.

And a player who would add colour to our team:

On 2 May 2012, Ljaji* was substituted in a match against Novara. His reaction to this substitution was to sarcastically applaud the manager Delio Rossi, who grabbed and attempted to punch Ljaji*. Fiorentina announced after the match that Rossi had been dismissed as manager, and they would take proportionate measures against Ljaji*. Ljaji*'s teammate Valon Behrami, who was on the bench at the time of the incident, said no one, including him, had heard Ljaji* insult Rossi, which disproved the manager's claims that Ljaji* insulted his family. Behrami added Rossi should be ashamed for his actions, as well as lying to the media.[16][17]

Ljaji* was removed from his country's squad by coach Sini*a Mihajlovi* after refusing to sing the national anthem in a 2–0 friendly loss against Spain on 28 May 2012 due to personal reasons.[23]

I think this rumour is another that's evolved from something that Zonalmista fella (the guy who made up the Doucoure quote about Everton) said on Twitter - the WD18 lads on Twitter have since deleted their tweet after he mocked them for it.

So many things being made up just lately, proceeding with caution is the best plan!

Would be a shame for us to lose him, but his contributions in a Watford shirt are eminently replaceable and the undoubted potential he has, might be better realised at Torino

Would be a bit disappointed if this were to come to pass, not sure he has filled his potential with us but he is absolute quality and was starting show it more consistently last season.

If he was going to a massive club you could say fair enough to a man bettering himself but Torino is not that. Profit is always nice but don't think we could get better or even the same for the money.

    It's a no from me.

Hopefully not, probably second for me behind Doucoure in terms of POTS last year (although that wouldn't have been too hard).

Think he started to fulfill his potential last season and I reckon he could be even better next season.
