Have other teams had this kind of ridiculous misfortune with injuries, or is it just us? Liverpool seem to have had a few, but I can't think of many more.

It seems like every week for the last few seasons there's been a fresh batch of injuries that seem innocuous but end up long term. It's incredible how we manage to field a reasonably cohesive side some weeks.

Scroll down on this article and you can see the extent of our injuries last season in full statistical detail.

Interesting to note that of the 4 teams with the worst record , 3 of them came in the bottom 4.

    Sunderland
    Hull
    Watford
    West Ham

Palace were also amongst the worst sufferers leading to a horrendous downturn in form after a good start .

Of the best performers for injuries Chelsea won the title and Burnley massively over performed .

Apparently, over the last 10 years Arsenal have the worst record for injuries which provides some backing to the argument that despite having some of the best players they frequently under perform.

This sort of injury would have been devastating for us last year - and was. Thankfully this year we've got an ace squad and this injury could theoretically improve our first eleven, as ridiculous as that sounds.

It almost makes you feel sorry for mazzarri. Almost.

I asked my physio if NC would be back before 2018.
He said it is possible but tight and no minor setbacks.
    Good luck NC.

Looks like Chalobah's place in the England squad has been taken by Delph...well he did score last week for City I think.

    So quite understandable..

Got 20 minutes in him I reckon.

Someone get him an Uber to the Black Country.

  14. Did he get the full "Pereyra" miniscus polish and blow dry, or just the cut and shunt?

From the gown it looks like he's in Watford General. Poor thing.

Surprise surprise, medical team say December , then we hear Jan/Feb leaving us with an actual comeback date of late March or early April.

Hes basically out for the season lets face it. Shame , really as he could have got into the WC squad if hed stayed fit.

Thankfully Hughes has stepped up to the plate, but an injury to Cleverley or Doucoure would mean Capoue starting!

Very little information about his actual injury has ever been revealed, other than "fractured kneecap". From my professional experience, there is no way it is just an injury to the bone - bones heal very well, especially in a healthy, young athlete.

There simply has to be soft tissue damage involved, most likely a ligament or cartilage issue (Pereyra's injury was a tear in the meniscus cartilage). Ligaments have a tiny blood supply which is why they take forever to repair; and cartilage has zero blood supply, instead using diffusion for the healing process (again, making healing very slow and limited).

My best guess is that the P.R department at the club have kept this quiet so as to not cast a negative feel/atmosphere amongst supporters so soon after losing Pereyra for almost the whole of last season to a knee problem. Chalobah himself has barely mentioned anything to do with the injury on his social media accounts.

Such a shame for him, the club and us fans as I believe we are a better team with him alongside Doucoure.

I'm fairness to the medical team we've no idea how his recovery has been progressing. If he's had a relatively minor set back that could easily explain why the return date has slipped from year end to January.

We bumped into him outside the ground a month ago and asked him how his injury was and he didnt seem to happy about it.

Last year we had the most days lost through injury. About 400. The next worst team had 230 odd. The best was Chelsea with about 80 days.

This season we are again bottom of that list.

Another player we’ve had who’s career will possibly be ended by injury I bet. Williams, Johnson, Wright are 3 off the top of my head I can remember.

Interesting. But from what I've found Hull, Palace, West Ham and Sunderland all lost more days through injury than us last season:

The link you sent lists total injuries and total injuries over 14 days. Not total days lost.

I was referring to total days lost to injury . Although below is a link for this season that shows we are way behind other teams, I have seen another stat for days lost for last season too where we also amongst the worst .

    https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.te...njury-audit-club-has-suffered-far-season/amp/

Without getting into a tedious debate about differing ways of measurement , it is plainly clear we have a problem with injuries, but also with the length of recovery time .

But yeah, your last paragraph is basically spot on. There's little to gain to be made by me quibbling over whether we're the 5th worst or outright worst. It's still pretty bad.

I don't think recovery times can be helped. Pereyra last season for example was because we ensured he wouldn't have problems later in his career.

It probably wasn't the case last season but this season the club can make sure that returning players are 100% fit because we have the squad to cope now.

Doesn't tell us much, but perhaps a hint of some positive progress from his Instagram? Still no official confirmation from the club about the true nature of the injury:

News (sort of) on Chalobah. Not much detail on the nature of the injury, but still more than what we're hearing from the club and local news outlets:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...gland-help-Chalobah-recovery-knee-injury.html

England lend helping hand to Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah by allowing him to use St George's Park as he continues rehab from knee injury

    • England have let Nathaniel Chalobah continue his recovery at St George's Park
    • The Watford midfielder has been out with a serious knee injury since August
    • Chalobah earned his first senior England call-up before sustaining the injury
    • The 23-year-old had surgery in September and never made his senior debut
    • He is hopeful of getting himself in contention for the 2018 World Cup in Russia
Nathaniel Chalobah is using St George’s Park to continue his rehab from a serious knee injury with England looking after one of their own.
Watford’s Chalobah, who was called up by Gareth Southgate in August before knee surgery in September, is hopeful of a January comeback.
The Hornets had hoped the 23-year-old, who is now off crutches, would be back with their squad before the New Year but it may take a little longer.
The Premier League club, player and Football Association all agreed to let the midfielder continue his recovery at the England training centre.
Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose did the same previously when he was coming back from a knee problem.
They are given medical treatment and can train, while also offering them a change of scenery.
Though Chalobah was called up by England before his injury, he did not receive a cap, but he is hopeful of getting himself in contention for the 2018 World Cup.
