He is very good with the ball but absolutely shocking without it. Should be no where near the England squad but then again neither should Phillips and I bet he gets in

That sounds encouraging. First signs of discontent amongst the feral mob? Long may it continue

Not that surprising, Cooper has struck me as being a bit limited at this level (even in the Championship his Swansea side tailed off badly towards the end of 2020/21 as teams were starting to work out his defensive style of football and lost to Brentford in the play-off final with a whimper). At the time he was sacked, Forest had lost three home games in a row and only picked up one win and 8 points in 13 games, despite playing Brentford, Burnley and Luton at home (they failed to win all three despite being 2-0 up against Luton with seven minutes to go). In Nuno Forest have one of the best managers in the PL outside those managing the top five teams - they haven’t been on a great run but they have picked up more points from fewer games (10 in 11) in a tougher run, scoring 17 goals and beating Newcastle, Man Utd and (convincingly) West Ham. I’d be surprised if Luton catch them, and Nuno is savvy enough to win the tactical battle between them and at least maintain the three-point gap.

Maybe Forest will get more luck with VAR this week ?

Since appointing Mark Clattenburg they seem to have got some rough calls .

Are you alleging bribery has taken place? Keep it quiet if so - we don't want another points deduction for Forest just yet!

There was an incident in the Burnley v Brentford game where a VAR check for a possible Brentford penalty was going on and in the next subsequent continuous phase of play Brentford scored. In that instance does the VAR check automatically stop provided the goal is valid? Otherwise couldn’t there be a possibility that the goal wouldn’t count because the penalty needs to be taken?
Of course if the gap between the two was quite short it could be considered that the ref was applying the advantage rule, but often a lot can happen while the check continues.

    Dunno but a good question!

I was wondering that at the time as well, however I think the goal saved VAR’s and the ref’s bacon, because the whistle hadn’t been blown for a penalty, the goal being scored and allowed nullified the need to check on a previous event which would only have been a positive event for the attacking team in any case, hence no need to worry about it!

I expect that’s what the authorities would say - I just wondered if it was specifically stated in the VAR guidelines.
It does change the way the game works, however. If they were playing without VAR, the penalty would be taken with the defending team having the possibility of saving it.

Common sense would be just to give the goal but they don’t do that usually.

    Forest lose 4 points .

    They’d probably take that .

Things are so tight at the bottom though it could well be enough to send them down.

It's not good for us as it could keep Luton up instead of them. Plus Forest in the Champ next season would probably do what Leicester had been doing - they have a lot of valuable players in their squad they could either hold on to or sell for good money and one way or another they would be very strong and more formidable than Luton would likely be.

Any appeal would be heard after the season has finished apparently!

    Could get very messy .

Not sure if their "mitigating factors" worked but that seems a very puny penalty otherwise !
Clearly they should appeal immediately and then drop the appeal if they stay up in case of a larger penalty ? Nothing to lose if they are already "relegated".

Must wins against Palace and Fulham coming up then. Still Everton, Burnley and Sheffield Utd on the fixture list as well.

Hundreds of millions to be about the same level of ****ing Luton. Far more difficult fixtures for the scum although teams still haven't learned that they will score late goals.

There is a big part of me that would like to see Everton down though. Scum would be rock bottom next season with Leicester, Leeds and maybe Soton back.

A four point penalty! **** it, let’s smash the rules completely, go and spend a virtual billion pounds and get into the CL by 6 points, job done.

In Florist’s case, finishing 5 points above relegation would justify any and all rules they’ve broken.

Yes I have a feeling they would easily bounce back next season with 3 big clubs going up this season, whereas if they stay up they may struggle badly with no points deductions and no Burnley & SU relegation fodder.

Quite right. If the authorities were serious about this a transgression should mean instant relegation.

A 4-point deduction will only hurt teams fighting for something, whether that be a league title, european spots or avoiding relegation.

What this type of punishment does is allow for strategic rule breaking for future benefit. For example, based on Forest’s case, a mid-table team can strategically over spend by £30 million pound at a cost of 4 points. Thus benefiting massively the following season after recruiting players out of their means and building a team to compete for a European spot they would previously have been viable by playing by the rules

Forest being as strong as Leicester would be totally and utterly irrelevant to us and our fortunes next season, but it’s very sweet you’re still looking at newly relegated Premier League teams with infinitely stronger squads and huge incomes as our direct rivals, rather than say I don’t know, our actual direct rivals now, like QPR or Stoke, or who might be a threat coming up from league 1 in terms of us avoiding relegation.

Is this going to make much difference ?

The current Government might not even be in power soon - presume they will choose the regulator ?

FIFA and UFEA don’t like Government interference in the game either .

Will any rules still have to be voted in by the clubs as well.

It's supposed to be completely independent of government and football authorities so should be no issues on that side.

Whether it will be able to make a difference is another matter especially as PL clubs are supposed to have already said they will be happy to take legal action if a financial settlement is forced on them

Yes that was a vote the other day on something which was 10 for and 10 against to help the EFL clubs.

Those 10 against included regular EFL clubs like Forest and Bournemouth.

Leicester City getting in early with a potential points deduction for next season to kickstart the “Find a way of keeping Luton up” 2024/25 programme.
