It almost feels like we've signed Mike Bassett as manager

I always wondered what it felt like supporting Newcastle under Ashley.

    Now I know.

I'm up for this. I'm bored of mild mannered coaches saying everything is amazing and how much we respect the opposition. Javi and Quique's press conferences were soporific. We're going down anyway but now we're going down with a mad ******* in charge.

You had me excited when your post initially said it was a two year contract! What changed?

Though I am still happy with this appointment.

It's like letting a rabid fox in with the chickens. Or in our case baby chicks

They wont know what hit them. I think it is just what we need at this stage after two limp managers blowing smoke up idle assholes

Remember when we speculated that an appointment hadn’t been confirmed because we’d possibly received word of interest from a target we maybe thought we couldn’t get? LOL.

The more I think about it, the better this appointment is looking (or I'm lying to myself)

He must have interviewed well because there were a lot of candidates and The Pozzo's aren't total novices (Everybody else said no, he was cheap and didn't mind a contract till end of the season)

He got Leicester out of a similar mess and laid the foundations for their Premier League winning season and all Leicester fans still talk about him fondly now (It was all Cambiasso according to VR)

He'll put a rocket up the player's backsides, will install some fighting spirit and won't take any BS. (Won't work the likes of Capoue, Holebas, Deeney and we will implode)

Can make an argument for either case but it's certainly got me interested again and way more excited by it than the QSF appointment, albeit more because of the total unpredictably of it all rather than Pearson being an excellent manager.

All we can do is get behind the boys, make loads of noise at Palace, ignore the Liverpool beating the following week and then upset Man United.

The great escape is on. COYH!!!

Just looked at the posts that the official social media channels have made today and the comments below - if those in power read those, they can be in no mind it doesn’t look universally popular.

But hey ho, f*ck the fans.

I was underwhelmed but now warming to this having heard from some Leicester fans who give him lots of credit.

Certainly 'managing expectations' with this appointment!

I love this appointment. Not who I wanted but feckin brilliant.

A no BS manager, with a short temper, aggressive and in your face. The players will finally get the kick up their bums they need. Not only that a manager that won’t stand on the sideline more interested in his self image but instead will be in the 4th officials ear all game. Then there’s the press conferences. I don’t think we would have been raped be VAR as much if Pearson was in charge, one wrong decision and the FA would be nervous to get it wrong again against us. He is more likely to knock out the ref than shake his hand.

I am genuinely excited and think we just gave ourselves a great chance of survival.

You were wrong about Gracia when he was appointed. Already seems you want NP to fail?

Experienced in the championship and used to relegation battles. Quite opinionated. Could have done a lot worse. British players might now be able to understand instructions being bellowed to them, our foreign fancy dans might not
British pundits think will be more for it than another unknown foreign coach

Here we go again. I was wrong about Gracia and graciously admitted as much. Never ever WANTED him to fail though. But I’m allowed my opinion - just as much as those who applaud the appointment. I’ve debated with them but never told them they are wrong. It’s called debate and holding an opinion.

I don’t WANT Pearson to fail. But it’s the expectation I have.

I would ask if I was entirely wrong about Gracia. Maybe I’m old fashioned but I want a manager to last a while. Gracia was better than most but it was hardly universal success either. But as I say, in regards to him, I point you to my first sentence.

Just because I’m not enthused by the appointment, why should I pretend I am? To join in with you and others even if it’s not my real thoughts? Because I should blindly support everything the club does? No thanks.

And I’m more critical of Gino than Pearson over this whole thing. But I suppose you’ll tell me that’s wrong as well.

In fairness, a certain type of fan is much more likely to reply to the club Twitter account. And that type of fan would always prefer an exotic name, and most probably has wholly unrealistic expectations about the calibre of coach we could attract.

I believe in evidence based opinions.

You are calling him out as the incorrect appointment before his Watford career has even started. He's already got positive form & history in getting a team out of a similar, if not worse, position than we are in, so in that regard what more of a testimonial can you ask of?

That's the logic I can't understand, i.e why you are so set against it when there is evidence/positive information to go on.

I scoffed when I initially heard the news, however...
The more I think about it, the more I think it might be a good appointment. Experience keeping teams up.
    Experience getting teams promotion.
Potential to stick around if we are relegated.

    It makes sense.
