I am all in favour of VAR. The 'top 6' almost always seem to get the benefit of the doubt when playing a non-top 6 team. Hughes penalty at home to Liverpool, Sterling offside for first and probably second goal and now Martial offside by about the same distance that Delefeou was adjudged offside in the first half. Seriously that was United's only meaningful attack in the second half - no way did we deserve to lose. Our best losing performance of the season on par with our away trip to Arsenal. Seriously where there really only 3 minutes to be added on ( which is an absolute minimum as six subs where made) - Shaw went down for cramp for at least a minute too. Was there really a foul in favour of Utd right at the end? Do you really think the ref would have added 3 minutes if Watford were winning 1-0 - no way, the game is run in favour of the ' big 6' in order to keep the top teams happy. The 'big 6' dont even exist anyway how are Leicester not part of the 'big 6' when Liverpool havnt won a league title in 29 years and Tottenham in 58 years? Our approach play was wonderful at times let down by the final pass or shot or even run - especially by Delefeou. Utd played a counter attacking game and were unbelievably average. They still managed to score twice from their five attacks in the match.
No you get a ******* grip m8, a defeat to Fulham and we are tak 10th and on Sunday we are in the FA Cup semi final and on Monday its the day after the FA Cup semi final.
Thought we played really well today, mixing it up well between hitting it long and passing it around and whilst there weren’t too many clear cut chances, I think we should have scored a couple more goals and very unlucky to lose that . Thought the energy was fantastic, picking up all the second balls . Doucoure in particular was brilliant . Excellent goal as well . Wasn’t very impressed by United and I have a feeling soljskaars United May well be found out at some point . Shame we didn’t get anything as maybe a bit more pressure to beat Fulham now , but no doubt Javi will want to rest players for that abs might be a tricky one for that reason. If we play Like that vs wolves well have a good chance of winning .
So going through the thread appears to indicate that my watching Sarries destroy the Weegies WAS the correct decision.
Beat Fulham this week and Wolves next Sunday and I reckon European football for "The 'Orns is on for next season one way or the other.
Down to 10th now. Ok, we do have a game in hand, but it's not nice seeing Everton and Leicester overtake us tonight.
Lost to Fulham this week and Wolves next Sunday and I reckon European football for " "'" "The Voice OF 'eason is never going to happen'
Don't seem to get much luck against Man U despite playing well . Hopefully take our chances in the big games to come !
Thought we played really well. Bobby P looked more like his dangerous self, which is promising with some big games ahead. We've really dominated that game, and been done by a couple of decent counter attacks. Hard to pick out a player who didn't have at least a decent game. Lovely goal we scored at the end there, just a shame that Doucoure wasn't that composed with chance early in the game. We'll play much worse and win comfortably on future occasions.
Beat Fulham and assuming Wolves loose at home to Man U, we will be above Wolves which would be a huge confidence booster for us and a negative for Wolves going into next Sunday's game, 2 big " ifs " but very possible!
You couldn't be more right. If we produce a similar performance on Tuesday and go into the weekend in 7th, I believe we will beat Wolves. Even Paul Merson said today that he thinks we will beat them.
Very good play by us today. We really should have won that game. I thought Rashford and Shaw were good for them and after that we made them look very ordinary. Doucoure was excellent. Massina not good. Should have done more to stop Rashford’s goal. Our goal was an excellent bit of combination play in their box. Not sure if we were brilliant or Man Utd poor, but we looked better than our opponents today, in their back yard.
Wasnt even our A team today. Probably outplayed united away. We are in with a chance. I’m hoping we have more battle hardened, years in the prem to see off Wolves. Then who knows
Let’s be professional about it. This isn’t our biggest game for years. Isn’t our cup final. Let’s grind something out
Who amongst us wouldn’t love, absolutely love to rub an FA cup win in the faces of our friends up the M1? Have a little swim in the pond
It never ceases to amaze me how the same player in the same game can evoke such polar opposite opinions on their performance.
Atwell: doesn't book Pogba for extended dissent or Martial for diving, decides that since we are knocking on the door, that only 3 min added time necessary despite man u time wasting, plenty of stop start, subs and 2 goals, then gives a foul for nothing when our free kick has sprung a loose chance at the far post for an equaliser. It's not always a red card or a penalty, or even a dodgy offside, these refs will always give just enough benefit of the doubt to the big clubs and just enough harshness to the tinpots, to give the that small, 5% edge, not only in the game, but over the season. How many other nailed on bookings and, by extension, suspensions, have man Utd avoided because of favourable refs? The game is so bent it's worse than wrestling,
Doucoure's performance will have done him no harm whatsoever, with a good goal as well, I reckon the romours will be flying around again of his disparture!
So Martial was not offside then. Certainly should’ve been booked for “doing a Knockhart” but generally you don’t get booked if there is contact even if that contact couldn’t knock over bambi. United defence certainly looked statuesque at times but once again we are just lacking a bit of ruthlessness against the best teams when on top. We do seem to be learning and improving. Inevitably we’ll lose Doucoure in the summer but if we can get a decent replacement, or Nate gets back up to speed, then I think we’ll do better against the top 6 sides next season. There is a togetherness about the team and to dominate Man United at Old Trafford and be genuinely pissed off at losing is just how you want your team to be. Next stop, picking up points in these games.
Couldn't disagree more. We played very well today and were incredibly unlucky not to win. I really enjoyed the game and very happy to see Watford play that way. However, if we are so open against Wolves who are a far better counter attacking team than Utd we will get beaten. There was zero midfield today and it wasn't necessarily the worst tactic (the highline maybe less so) but let's not pretend that next weekend that type of performance will get us a win. We would however absolutely batter Fulham playing like that.
Agree against the top six away from home we have played really well and unlucky not to pick up any points at Arsenal, Spurs and Man U, you could add Man City to that although we didn't plan to go forward much in that game, the only game we didn't do so well was Liverpool but with Chelsea to come that's a huge improvement on our previous three seasons! With Arsenal at home and Chelsea away I really think we will pick up something at least from one of those games! With five games out if the seven left at home, things are looking very promising!
This is why i love Javi. Because we know he is tactically aware enough to realise this. He has made us so adaptable with respect to who we are playing. For example I dont think any other team has gone to Molineux and pretty much dominate them like we did. Was a tactical masterclass that day.
The problem is if Utd play like that vs Wolves on Tuesday night, Wolves will have a good chance of winning......
Isn't that the third time we've outplayed United since we've been back in the Prem now only to lose by the odd goal?
