Awww...I still have a soft spot for Paredes. At least he was entertaining. Not always in our favour of course.
Quite correctly, it has been pointed out that the majority of our recent games have been away and that our points total from these games is relatively good. We have only very rarely been defeated in these games. But that was hard, hard watching today. It was like the Spurs game but against a less talented team. Let's give Brighton some credit - They were very well organised and hunted in small, well-drilled packs. They worked hard and looked thoroughly well acquainted with each other and their expected roles. None of this should be a surprise - they are a Hughton team. They won most of the physical battles. On the demerit side they are pretty toothless in front of goal: How many shots did they have? Loads. How many shots were on target? Practically none. If the cunning and capable Murray was 5 years younger that might have been different. Watford? Help! Midfield looked disjointed, thoroughly uncompetitive, inaccurate and lacking in ideas or teamwork. Attack was, until the phrenetic last 10 mins, non-existent. To think we nearly nicked that game at the end! It was not, I feel, a lack of motivation or effort; it was not for dramatic effect that Capoue was flat out at the final whistle. The heroes were the defence - again - and this is the defence that has been so much maligned this year. Watford looked like a team that has been well sussed-out and they looked too tired to cope. Gracia should take credit for that defence, but he also has a big job on his hands at the moment. Next week we 'entertain' Everton. We need to be very 'up' for this match and much more positive in approach and inventiveness.
I will take that all day. That’s the sign of champions right there. Play atrocious but come away with a point. Solid point away after a very difficult defeat to Spurs. Players looked tired but mentally did not break. Credit to Javi for installing that in the players. We have a whole week to recover. Doucoure will be back against Everton. Didn’t realize that Everton play Man City on Wednesday. Only have 2 days of rest before traveling down to play us. I just hope we make vicarage road rock on Saturday, don’t stop singing, don’t stop cheering the boys on and give Everton and Silva hell. Beat Everton on Saturday and we will be four points clear of them with a game in hand. Surely that would be enough for Silva to be sacked, especially with their run in.
Pretty much says all that needs to be said. All I would add is: - atmosphere, like the match, was pretty flat; the Brighton home crowd is a similar dynamic to Watford's (i.e. pretty quiet) and, perhaps not surprisingly considering the crud they were watching, the Watford away contingent were the quietest I've known them - it has been many years since circumstances forced me to watch a match in the "wrong" section of the crowd and I had forgotten what a thoroughly miserable experience it is. Never again.
Could we not go 4-5-1 away and tuck Hughes in, or play Quina, and put Del boy wide right? Can't be any worse...
Homophobic **** has no place at a football game, and for Watford fans to do it, if they did, is beyond moronic.
Especially when it's not working for us, as on Wed and today. I never understand why we persist with essentially an unnecessary luxury amount of attacking players, who are redundant when our midfield is being dominated. Javi doesn't seem to like sacrificing a winger or striker for a midfielder, even though it might give us a better base from which to attack.
I think I saw these twonks away at Leicester giving it the big one to five year olds in the family section. They look like the ******* inbetweeners, one of them wears glasses. They’re a ******* embarrassment
Didn’t the first post refer to ‘the 40’? If so, less is fine. Fewer also acceptable. Everyone’s a winner.
That was my second visit to ‘the Amex’ - last season was my first - and although I like the fact that it’s unusual for a new stadium, it seems to me there is something lacking with the acoustics, certainly in the away end. I have been in roughly the same place both times: quite low down to the right of the goal, and both times it has clearly been a struggle for people near me to join in with songs being started further over to the left. Nothing was ever in unison and so there was never any concerted singing from the whole end and consequently people quickly gave up. It’s true both games were dire but I’ve been at plenty of grounds to watch bad games when gallows humour has kicked in and it has been only the atmosphere which has saved the experience.
Doesn't help our strikers have such poor movement, it is embarrassing watching our midfield pick the ball up and the charlatans up top stand still.
Would the weakness of an orthodox winger be countered by having an extra midfielder? We play with 3 or 4 players who's job first and foremost is score of create goals, yet often at least 2 of them are completely redundant and we create little.
The discussions around set-up and formation and tactics are all valid. But I wish our midfield and forwards could just initially manage the basics, such as; Move into space Control the resultant pass Pass to someone in the same colour shirt Then move into space, Then control a pass back, And pass it again to someone in the same colour shirt Move into space Repeat ...with the general intention of gettimg closer to the opponents goal quickly, until there is a shooting oportunity. It can't be that difficult on £50k+ a week, can it?
Have you guys seen Gonzalo Higuain's movement so far for Chelsea? Top draw, I'd be hoping messrs Deeney, Gray and Success are watching that guy and learning, one has to drop short but someone has to get in behind
You are right, but there is a problem with the concept in the last sentence: Watford were up against another set of blokes on £50k a week. “In football everything is complicated by the presence of the opposite team.” 5 points to anybody who can identify who is being quoted. Minus 5 if you Google it, plus you are a mountebank.
What this needs is not for one bloke to stand up to them and everyone keeping shtumm / looking the other way but for everyone around these scum to call them out on it, take photos/videos of them, take note of their seat numbers, report it, etc. Even their tiny amoeba-like brains will register that if we all make an immediate stand against them they need to stop and crawl back under the ****-covered stone they live under. I'm ashamed to be associated with these ****s simply because they pretend they are Watford fans.
What an exciting match. Two teams, up for it. Aggression. Passion. Some fantastic forward play. Rock hard defence. Wonderful finishes. I’m not sure why more of you didn’t skip our predictable abysmal sh*t-show and watch the rugby instead. I’d have taken a Watford point before hand, as long as I didn’t have to watch it.
If you own up to Googling then you are not trying to fool anyone and so you are excused the mountebank charge. Still minus 5, though.
Reminds me of the idiot shouting insults at Javi at full time “Thou leathern-jerkin, crystal-button, knot-pated, agatering, puke-stocking, caddis-garter, smooth-tongue, Spanish pouch!”
Oh well, every cloud.... Watford's turgid goalless draw was one of 6 correct scores Mr HH got in what turned out to be an extremely profitable accumulator. Let's just say those of us in the HH household are big fans of Ashley Barnes right now!
ZZ has found the secret formula that they gave to the Brazil 82 team. We'll be unstoppable now once Deeney, Success and Gray read that - let the Samba begin!
We miss the way Doucoure always drives the play at least 5 yards forward, even if he then plays a sideways pass. It means the opposition block is always marginally disrupted at the moment of turnover. Even if this does not result in an incisive forward move every time, it does prevent the other team from immediately attacking from a controlled base. The concern is when he’s out, those selected to replace him just cannot play that way adequately. I think we should either try Quina in the role, or we have to change formation.
