Great article from a Spurs fan on his day at Vicarage Road ! https://www.planetfootball.com/in-d...-underdog-well-deserving-of-a-day-in-the-sun/
Just beat me too the punch ! May post this in Outlaws, as they seem intent on moving from their local community ******** to a soulless out of town ********, which will hopefully bankrupt them in the process
Almost makes me want to drop The Times and buy the Mail instead. But as not everything they print is by this guy and about Watford, I won't
Two lovely articles about Watford read within a few minutes. What's happening? Is the present outfit being seen as the reincarnation of the 1982 lot?
Thoroughly enjoy these "Another Angle" videos. John Marks is capable of making the hairs stand on end. Also great to have Rene Gilmartin back!
It's utterly baffling that anyone could begin to believe we're hated. What could anyone possibly have against us? We must be one of the most unassuming of all the clubs in the country. We've got no hooligan past whatsoever (apart from Top Boy cameron, obvs). We've never been successful so have no delusions of grandeur. If we are known for anything at all, it's for being a family club. The town is small and virtually unknown with no links to racists/terrorists. Our most famous manager was hugely popular, as proven when he died. Our only celebrity fan is not hated. We didnt have an annoying plastic pitch in the past. We're just...nothing at all. There's the loans thing a few years ago but how many people can even remember that I wonder? It's ludicrous, and something that is only peddled by tiny-brained ******s.
I bet if you asked someone to list the top 10, 20 or more teams in england they associated with hooliganism, we wouldnt appear on their list...
I don't think there's any hate agenda against Watford, it's more the tired cliches and lack of intelligent insight that I find vexing. Articles like the one posted above, by an opposition fan no less, show the standard that can be achieved if journalists and pundits could be bothered to scratch a little beneath the surface.
Doesn't get enough clicks though does it? I know absolutely **** all about PL teams like Huddersfield and even if there was an insightful article written by a top journalist I still wouldn't read it.
Think you're totally wrong on this. It not that we're hated by the media, Watford are just dismissed. Watfords hooligans are no longer like most clubs. To say we've never been successful is a bit harsh, it depends on who you compare with. No we haven't won a major trophy but 12 years at the top is not bad. The family club thing is now well and truly in the past. Yes its a club close to its community. Watford is small compared to some towns but the catchment area is huge. Think I'd agree with you that its unknown... except for its football club. GT was a popular club manager but not hugely popular as England manager. Agree Elton is a National Treasure and not hated. We're just "nothing at all". Not sure what this means but I've wasted a large proportion of my life supporting it! I do have a tiny brain....
Would you read a similar article as the one above if it was about burnley? Cos I couldnt give a tiny***** about them. Only supporters of the team involved, or a minuscule amount of football statto nerds, read such in depth analysis. So if your fanbase is titchy - like ours is - then there is no demand and therefore no point in writing such articles. What I would suggest is actually going to the match to experience it all first hand, then you won't be reliant on reading about other people's impressions.
Sadly this is unbelievably true. Most popular football story of the season so far? Dele Alli doing a salute. This is a player who was in our pocket all afternoon.
"Jingle bells, Jingle bells, Jingle all the way Oh what fun it is to see The L*ton run away repeat to fade"
"A-ga-do-do-do we're the Watford Service Crew..." As Germaine Greer once remarked that she was going to give a "journalist" a two-word reply to his question about the likelihood of all the female BB contestants to menstruate simultaneously: Spoiler "Puh-lease????"
Great to see Deeney fit and up for it. I love him but is anyone else wondering why he hasn't been like that for the last 2 seasons?
For those mildly interested, have collected a shed load of high-res images from Sunday's game - some of which you've probably seen, others maybe not. Rather than spam the forum with them, you can view them here: https://gifyu.com/album/pAO/?sort=date_desc&page=2 There's some excellent ones amongst them.
So you're saying... I can actually go and watch Watford? I thought they were a collective figment of this forum's imagination?
Still shouldn’t airbrush out the 60’s Rookery or the late-70’s/early 80’s Bogside even if the history doesn’t 100% square with the myth of the archetypical ‘family club’. It happened.
Not my era but wasn’t it the Wrecking Crew? However.....after a wiki search it says we were the Watford Risk Squad. Bad ass board game boys
Previous eras is when anything happened...I’d accept from the mid-80’s onwards WFC have been totally lacking anything that could be called a firm; so passé
The icepick in Mexico City must have been an unusual accoutrement. The hallmark of an extremely lost Alpinist or an extremely cautious Mexican in winter.
