A terrible start to the week. He had been feeling unwell apparently and had an ECG booked for next week. What a shame he was unable to do so immediately. It may have saved him. Iconic player and trail blazer for today's black players. The abuse he,Luther and others received in the '70s and '80s was vile. RIP.
Echo your thoughts on the abuse black players, Viv Anderson, Laurie Cunningham and John Fashanu included, received. A heck of a lot is owed to the braveness these young pioneering players showed, especially when they weren't in it for the money...
What a player he was.. must have scared the living daylights out of defenders. I always saw him very much in the vain of our Luther. Having to put up with a lot of racist **** from the terraces and using that to up their game even further.. and doing it back then when they had very little outside support. A sad loss.
Great player, especially at Albion. The sort of striker everyone wished they had at their club. Fortunately we had Luther, who is the same age as Cyrille and myself. I find it very sobering seeing another figure from my youth leaving us. Great memories though.
For many years I was involved at Hayes FC. Although he played there a few years before I started going, I did have the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of occasions. Everything which has been said about him over the last twenty-four hours hasn't been said for effect, he was the perfect gentleman you would have seen in interviews and clips in the media.
