Steve Sims exchanges pennants with Hans-Peter Briegel and Ian Bolton lines up a free kick:

    [IMG] [IMG]
Wednesday the twenty eighth of September Watford defeated 1FC Kaiserslautern 3-0 to win the two legged tie 4-3. Ian Richardson on debut scoring twice. Kaiserslautern fielded three prominent German internationals in their side in Briegel, Brehme and Allofs. A power in German football for decades and with a fanatical set of supporters recent years have not been kind to the club. They currently play in the third tier of German football having been relegated there for the first time in 2018 and no sign of them making a return. This after winning the Bundesliga title as recently as 1998.

Watford made it to the third round before losing to Sparta Prague. Four English teams had entered the competition and two made it to the semi-finals. Nottingham Forest were infamously cheated by Anderlecht after they bribed the referee but they had their comeuppance in the final at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur losing on penalties one scored by later Hornet Mark Falco.

Great memories. I was at both legs. It was amazing to see Watford playing in Europe.

Hans Peter Briegel always reminded me of the villain in 'From Russia With Love'.
Enormous man, quads like a small African country
    Allofs could play t00.
    Brilliant kit too,especially the shirt.

    Yes fantastic days.
Ian Richardson rather than Kevin Richardson though :).

Klaus was the better and most famous of the Allofs brothers (56 caps) but Thomas was still very useful and a full international (2 caps)....

We have had many decent keepers over the decades but he wasn’t one of them it’s fair to say !

2 shocking keepers that season both called Perry. We would have been better with this Perry in goal...

One of my favourite football jokes was about Perry Suckling. It emerged shortly after he was in goal for Palace in their 9-0 thrashing by Liverpool.

Why is Perry Suckling like the Queen Mother?
They both wear gloves for no apparent reason.

Time for an early Thursday evening historical quiz. Can you name the following future Hornets from their younger days.
Not the clearest but there's two in this pic that turned pro at Vicarage Road..

Harry and the much lamented Harriet lounge about during another win in the promotion winning season of 1998-99. The victims being Sunderland courtesy of Nicky Wright and GNW. Anyone for club call ?

Is Harriet buried under Harry's patio/nest?
After their whirlwind romance it all went very quiet.
I don't read 'Hello' so am not up to date on such matters.
