Tomorrow it's the Troy Deeney show. I guess he's not at training then. He will co-host between 8am and 10am
Hopefully it’s his budget version of Griezmann’s announcement rubbish, and he’s ready to tell the world who he’ll be showing up for pre-season overweight with this year.
Deeney has just said on TalkSport that he wants to stay. He's not looking to leave Watford. I'm delighted, but mainly because it will put the forum into meltdown, which I will enjoy reading. ‘I never wanted to leave when Leicester came in for me and I don’t want to leave now’. ‘If the club decide that it’s time for us to part ways then I’ll take it on the chin, I’m a big boy’
It’s Troy ‘PR’ Deeney. I don’t think it’s a good look to publicly throw your toys out the pram and demand to leave. Comes across as desperate too. I’d still be inclined to believe AL that behind the scenes he’s got his team looking for suitors.
Exactly - Troy trying to claim it'd be the club wanting to move him on, whereas he's "honest guv" not looking to move.
Probably more likely to stay than all the players people are pinning their hopes on. How fit he will be is a different matter !
Think this interview is much ado about nothing, all he said was he wouldn't push for a move away, not that he wouldn't be well up for one if the chance came up. Besides, as has been said, you wouldn't expect our captain to come out in the media and say flat out that he wants out, definitely not after Deulofeu blabbing to the Catalan media
We don't know if he is still the captain. Vlad I presume will be the one who decides that. If we're relying on some kids to perform then having an old head like Troy around is no bad thing. Knows the club, and regardless of what people think of him now, has been one for the history books here.
If we keep Troy as our main striker this year then we may as well sell Estupinan and Sarr now and get what we can for them. They can both bomb to the byline and whip crosses in all year long , no-ones going to be there to finish them off.
Deeney offered to Newcastle apparently, but I'd be surprised if his wage is £100k per week. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo.../newcastle-united-blow-entire-summer-18835142
I was told about two years ago that was what he was on by somebody who is in the game. Astonishing, but that move to Leicester that didn't quite happen seemed to work in his favour.
Same. I’ve seen a lot of fans on twitter up in arms about how ludicrous it is to suggest he’s on that wage. That figure may be wrong, but I believe it. It’s football that’s ludicrous.
Thing is though Newcastle might take him, obviously with Ashley still around they won't be spending big bucks on stars, but they could definitely do with a striker
im pretty sure in the interview he did with louis theroux during lockdown he stated that he definitely did not get paid that much.
This. Think Louis suggested £70k and Deeney said "I'm not paid quite that much by the way". He is probably one of our highest earners though. Welbeck is surely our highest paid, although appearance clauses may mean it isn't always top dollar. Welbeck, Deeney, Doucoure, Gray, Deulofeu and Pereyra (I'd imagine) are our highest earners and really ought to be off the payroll sooner rather than later.
He could’ve lied. He also claims he never asked to leave when Leicester came calling when in reality he’d said his goodbyes before we offered him a new deal to stay.
