    Bit controversial kVA.

'Et' is recognised in the dictionary alongside the pronunciation which is like 'eight'. The OED accepts both. If anything, 'et' is the traditional pronunciation and the 'eight' one is down to common folk trying to make it/themselves sound posher. Plus there's an American influence behind the latter version. There's a fair bit online about it.

"I et it" is fine in this country.

Shed b lucky i saw romanians in a blue ford transit up ther earlier xx

My local one in Melton Mowbray is exactly the same as what you’ve all described. Worrying levels of thickness.... ‘can sumone please tell me what time walk in center opens???’

They’re all convinced that there is some kind of crime spree going on at the minute, even though police statistics show no such thing, to the extent that blokes are going on there rallying gangs to roam the streets at take Melton Mowbray back from the scum.

At least once a day there's a post about a crime somewhere and then loads of hand wringing:

"Are are used 2 be so nice!!! Wots happening 2 are town!!!"

Then the gammons will suggest something about national service, flogging or snowflake children being not beaten enough to be the reason why someone's car was stolen

I was inspired to add her to this thread after hearing one of her dirges on local daytime BBC radio. Her mediocre candy floss easy-listening music is just made for that sort of situation. Just the sort of thing both the mums at home AND the pensioners can enjoy.

Why would anyone want to listen to Bookbinder's feeble warbling when there's Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Celia Cruz or Nina Simone you could be listening to.

I didn't know that either. "Et" sounds very northern, working class to me.

I'm going to make a point of saying it now though.

Apparently, after 3 years corresponding on this forum, one receives a degree from the Open University.

Swimming in rather bourgeois daytime waters, Clive.

I do, though, prefer Mel Brooks to Elkie, if one had to pick a winner.

The other way of looking at this is to say that listening to a more anodyne version of a style of music can be a gateway into listening to the “proper” artists of that genre, especially for those who wouldn’t normally be exposed to it. Not that I think Elkie Brooks was especially anodyne when she started out.

Used to surf with her son when I was at uni in Devon. Seemed like a nice chap and his dad ran a very helpful surf cam. Never met his mum though, so I can’t speak on her.

    The French.

I'm at a Centre Parcs in Holland and it's crawling with them. No manners, no spatial awareness, loud and generally ugly.

Valentines Day and all the mugs who go and pack into overpriced restaurants tonight.

Take your partner out next week when all the tw*ts are sitting back at home.

Yes, or the weekend as myself and Mrs TuT are doing. The only good thing about dining tonight is that you don't have to wait 45 mins for the food to arrive, you can be in and out of the restaurant in 45 mins flat as they are so focussed on getting the next punter in! Made the right call yesterday in putting back the £25 flowers at Tesco and selecting a £15 bunch instead as apparently they were great.

Meal deal from Marks and Spencers for me and Mrs Knight GT, £20 and generally it's very good food then off to The French Horn in Sonning weekend after next for a meal out.
On the subject of Valentines day my soon to be 9 year old son is sending his first ever Valentines Day card today. Poor chap looked scared out of his mind this morning. I didn't have the heart to tell him this is the beginning of the end of him making his own decisions!

I'm sorry but nothing, nothing, nothing comes close to the behaviour/lack of both manners and courtesy of "Ivans" "holidaying" abroad - not even those "barrels of fun" the Israelis.
