'Rocketman' - Elton John Biopic

Guessing the guy may be a bit strapped for cash, what with this and Kingsman 2.

 

His £5 million fee went to his AIDS charity.

 

Just got through the ballot to buy Elton John tickets for the NEC, for a top row seat in the back corner it's £72.70 plus fees! Seats prices slowly increase by block until the front rows are £401.80. As much as I'd like to go I can't justify that, very disappointed.

 

Might have been worth it at his peak in the 70s.

Was expecting to see at least a tiny clip of WFC in the john lewis ad. I'm so furious at the omission I'm off to waitrose tonight for a protest piss in the freezer cabinet.

 

When is this coming out anyway?

 

I'd find it difficult to justify spending £4.01 for an SEJ ticket now.

 

But he IS in his 70s

 

Wrong, they've stolen the words that are written along the back of the SEJ stand at the Vic and used them in the soundtrack.

20th anniversary of our only win at Wembley.

 

Very good film. Watched it tonight. No Watford mention and they didn't use the bit they filmed at the Vic when John Barnes did his rap, but it was a good watch nonetheless.

 

There was a very small nod to us during one of the songs (was it Honky Cat?) - without any spoilers you can see a classic WFC shirt.

 

Unfortunately a very fleeting visual reference to WFC. The film was produced by Elton so he would have had the final say. It's well documented that owning the club and particularly his relationship with GT got him through the worst of his addictive period. He always seemed relaxed at the Vic and I remember him happily kicking the ball around before one match with Rod Stewart. Maybe another back story just did not fit the narrative. I believe that as a kid he went to the Vic with his uncle, who does not feature as a character. I have never heard anything about his father before this film. Clearly he was a cold hearted bastxrd. His difficult relationship with his mum is covered. It's a good film and on a par with Bohemian Rhapsody. The musical sequences are cleverly matched to the action. Much as I like Elton, his music, charity work and what he did for WFC, he does come across as a rather self-absorbed victim of the pop culture of the 70s surrounded by some rather nasty people (prime culprit - John Reid his manager). Only his Gran and songwriter Bernie Taupin come across in a wholly sympathetic way. I would recommend it - the music itself carries the film. Expect more of these rock/ pop biopics. But unless you live in Pinner (mentioned more than it deserves), you will only get 3 seconds of visual homage to the golden boys.

 

I suppose the Watford FC angle isn’t necessarily the best to sell tickets in the US, or most of the UK, or certainly Friuli.

Whilst I have never studied this, it is striking & rather moving how many of Elton’s 70s costumes feature yellow, red & black.

That’s showbiz Elton’s nod to us.

 

I’ve always referred to these sort of films as BIOpics, but there’s an increasing trend at the moment to call them biOPics, which sounds daft.

I watched the recent Queen film on the plane.

I peered between the seats at the screen of the chap in front for 5 mins.

Even from that far, the Freddie Mercury actor didn’t look like Freddie Mercury. If you want the songs, watch the proper guy on YouTube.

 

Mrs TuT and her dad are going to see this next weekend. She was surprised I didn't want to go but given I've got most of his music and know most of the story of his life, what's the point in watching some actor pretending to be him and sing some of his songs reasonably well ? Apparently it's "very well acted". Well I need something a bit more than that to go and watch a film if I already know what happens and the ending.
Anyone else been to see it and recommend it ? If so why , given the above ?

 

It's really good. It is not a documentary, it is more of a fantasy musical. Very little (practically no) WFC reference, though - just 4 blokes in Watford shirts during a fantasy sequence where his spending gets out of control. (and young Elton in a Watford tie) Taron Egerton is a fantastic singer, and Jamie Bell and Richard Madden make a good fist of it too (fnarr)

 

Don't bother watching The Titanic.

Maybe it is a little strange that there is nothing about Graham Taylor given the supposedly important stabilising role he had, but it wouldn't have sat easily in the film.

With the proper Hollywood treatment I assume that a LDC manages to repair the damage and personally holds the boat together while it sails safely into port, whilst plugging the hole with his massive c*** ?

Montage scenes of AJ & Troy sparring in the gym, jogging together in hoodies in W Herts lanes, smiling as they fistpump Harry, all accompanied by Z Cars.

 

We drive down to the Vue on the A405 in nth Watford. Not sure of the cost as Mrs TuT deals with the admin. I expect it's "too much" though....

 

If it's in Watford, surely you must go.

And dress the part.
