    Just asking....

After yesterday’s debacle and today’s sobering up, I was wondering if ANY media outlets or pundits or broadcasters have said or written ANYTHING POSITIVE about WFC?

Of course we won the flag waving competition, (I think), but I perused through the Sunday papers on the newsstand (not wasting money buying one) and couldn’t find anything remotely encouraging.

Pages of fawning and blue @** licking, it was if there wasn’t another team there, except for some VERY negative analysis and player ratings (2’s and 3’s in the Express).

I haven’t trawled through the forum match thread, and I’m still, as someone said, going through the 5 stages of grief.

So apologies if it’s been mentioned and I’ve missed it, but to try to keep any semblance of sanity, is there anything positive, anywhere, from anyone?

Did you delete the last thread!?

I doubt a lot positive was said about our performance given the outcome which is no surprised but the way we supported the side won a lot of plaudits.

As you say most of the media were talking about Man City and their achievements.

If you watch the game again on tv (I’ve put myself through that) there are so few good moments or performances to talk about. That’s not a dig at the team, just genuinely how it was. The support however comes across fantastically well.

Did the pundits lay into us like they normally might when a team loses so badly or because it was City they weren't that damming.

Did you watch the Pre-match stuff? - that might be better to see although I understand Deeney said "this is our moment and he was going to give Kompany a tough game.."

    :(

Wow, just seen the Pozzo/Duxbury statement of thanks to the Watford fans and how the Royal enclosure VIP’s were applauding Watford fans for their support. (On Wobby).

At least that makes me feel a bit better with the ‘Creating History, Respecting our Past’ theme on the big banner.

(And no, for the cynics on here we didn’t quite create history - it was only 6)

I think the media are concentrating more on their own existential angst at the moment, having finally realised that a team and club that they have spent the last decade felating at every opportunity may actually be harmful to football and humanity in general.

Been catching up with the build up to the game. They did a little bit on football focus on GT and the 84 cup final. Made me feel a little emotional even though I don’t remember it from the day itself (I was 7 and it was the day I began supporting the club)

Not sure if it’s just nostalgia, but even if we’d won (might not be the case but won’t know now) I think the 84 day just seems better overall.

I do remember cup finals from the late 80’s and they were such special days. If we ever make it to a final again I’d love it if the club gave the media full access, even on the day. I mean it’s not professional but the memories of Saturday seem quite limited and I’d waited (as we all had) 35 years for this day.

Even buying the tickets has that romantic (maybe that’s not really the word I want) look with the long queues and the happiness when people got their ticket. Not the same sitting in front of a frozen ticket master screen!

Or maybe in another 35 years we’ll look back fondly on this cup run the same as people did about 84?

Have i missed it or has Troy been uncharacteristically quiet since the game? Not sure I've seen a single quote from him. Did he get interviewed after the match?

Judging from his performance, I’d say this was Troy before the game, not after....

Still perfect preparation for his annual ‘get sloshed over summer, pile the pounds on, then work twice as hard as anyone to get rid of them and eulogise about how’s he’s never been in such great shape because he doesn’t drink anymore.’

I wonder if there was any communication from 'the palace' (royal not crystal) about his comments relating to Prince William. I'd be surprised if they weren't concerned by it. An ex-con giving Wills 'some stick' probably not how they think the class system is supposed to work!

It will also be interesting to see how they view this if the Lionesses are successful this summer?

FWIW I think it will be interesting to see if anyone in the MSM will confront the elephant in the room that the EPL is hindering the development of English players and management. Still there's always next year's race for 7th to look forward to.

Are you kidding? Us and Troy are gold-plated (in Terms of PR) after Saturday's match:

Probably was you know. Deeney's done it again. Pissed off the wrong people this time.

Hope he isn't going to Paris for his holidays.

Have any of our players spoken apart from Gray and Mariappa?

Trouble is when Troy does speak before a game it usually goes wrong !!

Let’s be honest, it’s probably a good thing that the media are focusing on Man City. The fact they are all pretty much agreeing that this may be the best Premier League side ever (footie only started in 1992 (tm)) almost excuses the Watford performance and result. If we’d been done 4 or 5-0 against a team like Bournemouth or Palace then the knives would well and truly be out, both in the media and here if the last couple of days are anything to go by.

For once I am only too happy for the City love in. It is interesting, in typical English media fashion, that they are already beginning the process of knocking them down. Look for this to continue through next season with Pep eventually telling them all to **** off and storming out.

Our record against Arsenal since promotion: Before the 'cojones' comment: Won 3 Lost 3; After the 'cojones' comment: Won 0 Lost 3.

Our record against the top 6 since promotion before the 'cojones' comment: Won 5 Drew 3 Lost 20. 71% LOSS RATE

After the 'cojones' comment Won 2 Drew 1 Lost 20. 87% LOSS RATE

(I count Spurs in the cup as a defeat. U can call it a draw if u want).

A crocodile who is hoping Deeney can't hack the forum mainframe to reveal the correspondents' true identities.

    Btw, what were Troy's comments?

The Economist didn't carry the story.

Something about hoping he runs into Kompany, Sokratis, David Luiz on the beach in Ibiza this summer for a game of foot-tennis as he loves to let them know they’re in for a hard game....

He’s living rent free in the heads of these top defenders you see...they just don’t know it.

Have we even heard from the captain yet? After the incredibly forgiving display of support from the fans after (and during) such an embarrassing result it would have been nice to hear from more of the squad than the 3 or so that posted on social media...

He has posted on Instagram. Eulogising about his girlfriend and saying it’s time to ‘rest up’ with her. As is his right.

I’m not one who gains comfort from empty words after. But it would be nice for someone from the club to come out and say sorry - if that had been a league game, I expect they’d be queuing up to say Man City or not, it wasn’t good enough. But somehow because it was the FA Cup Final, it’s somehow excusable due to their quality. The game is still 90 mins - and as HB1 has said elsewhere, there’s no excuse for the same amount of effort as your opponents. The captain and manager should recognise that.

But that’s our captain in current form - happy to be front row and centre when he’s scored etc but too shy when he’s directly contributed to embarrassing episodes for the club.

I think that the reality is, that it's not Watford getting tonked which is causing consternation, more that City's dominance has meant that Man Utd and Liverpool, who most of these pundits support, are ending up potless, at least domestically.

Seeing Liverpool finish second with 96 points and seeing Man Utd become mediocre is clearly painful for many people who grew up enjoying being able to write their match reports before the games had even taken place with such sides.
