Anyone else think today's developments are just a ruse and Kim Jong Un playing the long game? Cos I do. I reckon there'll be full out war in Korea in the next 5 years. Maybe get the US to pull back a bit, lull South Korea into a lower state of readiness and stock up on aid and then bam, invasion. Those millions of North Korean brainwashed troops are hardly going to be demobbed.

I'll put my tin foil hat back on the shelf for now...

No, I think he's genuinely wanting long lasting peace.

Then I noticed his sister who has got to be the most evil person I've ever seen...

I agree something doesn’t feel right, but I think Kim is making alliances now with an eye on attacking China at some point. A United Korea is a much stronger force and he knows he can’t go at it alone

should have executed him whilst the opportunity was there

would have meant a bit of a shoot out but the NKs would soon be fighting amongst themselves over who takes over

Kim doesn't want to fight anyone, he just doesn't want to be overthrown

I think Kim Jong Un has been pretty smart actually. He's 'developed' intercontinental missiles with the capability of carrying nuclear warheads, then once the world is convinced he's not bluffing he announces he's open to peace talks and wants to meet the South Korea leader. Then he announces he's stopping the nuclear warhead programme out of the blue. So he's put himself in an advantageous negotiating position by giving up something he's only just made.

Yeah, he's just re-jigging things a bit to make sure nothing is going to drastically change.

When you've got it sewn up at home you just need to manage external factors enough so they don't bring change.

Hoxha in Albania held onto to a catastrophe of a country until he died by keeping a climate of fear at home and juggling it around internationally.

Precisely this his dad and grandad taught him that to stay in power you threaten for a few years, delay, then sue for peace very slowly, delay, don’t hold to your promises or do very little, build a few things in the DMZ then gradually ratchet up the threats again.

He wants to stay in power, he doesn’t want peace

Thing is Trump has only gone and staked the whole first half of his presidency on the success of these 'peace' talks. Soon he'll have to decide whether to give it up or sell out America to maintain his reputation in the short term. I wonder what he'll choose?

    Yeah, it's obvious.

I thought you were cute but what put me off was you arguing with yourself in the mirror about who had the last rolo.

I try to avoid those types.

I once asked a guy from North Korea what it was like living there.

He said "Oh, I can't complain.."

Looks like China has called its dog to heel recently. Kim also appears to have been influenced by them.

Exactly this. He's not scared of the West, he's scared of his own people.
China could bring North Korea to its knees just by turning off the oil supply but it doesn't want millions of Koreans flooding over its borders. So it keeps things ticking over and likely gives Kim a warning now and again.
The North and South will reunite sometime from say 2030 to 2060.
