For those following the classic vintage footy on ITV4 on Saturday mornings, coverage has now moved on to Season 1981-82.

However, instead of harvesting LWT's "Big Match", they're using Granada's "Match Time" instead. Presentation is chalk & cheese, with a wet behind the ears Elton Welsby attempting to present, and Denis Law's dreadful summarising a perfect example of an ex-player who knew f***-all squared about the game. Give me the polished professionalism of Brian Moore & Jim Rosenthal any day please.

Anyway, two programmes currently being shown on Sat's, 10.30 & 11.30, the second of which this week includes highlights of the 3-0 win over Norwich from October 1981. Enter one John Barnes..... (& I THINK John Fashanu for Norwich too)

Good to know but I’m in Norfolk this weekend. If I tell you where my spare key is hidden, could you pop round and schedule it on the sky planner for me ? Cheers. TuT.

On ITV 4+1 is v Newport County (Oct 77) in GT first season 77/78 - dog track still visible - interview with him and Elton post match - imagine that - the chairman/ owner being interviewed alongside the manager.

Downes and Mercer according to the Watford Archive. Also noticeable that the home attendance was already up to more than 10,000 by then. There was a feeling in the air that something special was brewing.

I didnt realise how quick Keith Mercer was until yesterday, he wasn't just a battering ram
What a player he could have had he not got injured !

Finally caught up with this after returning from holiday. Great that they showed so much detail and what a brilliant and funny interview with GT and EJ at the end. It was so obvious that they genuinely got on so well together.
Didn’t remember the foals depsite remembering the scorers.
