I wonder if we’d have been better off throwing him into things right from the very first game. As you say, his fitness should have been decent given he’d played through the summer, and I can’t help but think his confidence would have been aided by the obvious excitement his signing created amongst the fan base, who’d surely have given him a heroes reception.

Equally, he’d probably be playing on adrenaline more than anything else, with a bit of freedom to do his things, given that he’d be a bit behind on the more tactical side of our play. I’d draw a comparison with Richarlison, who obviously eventually tired as the year went on and struggled for consistency, but he was cut a little more slack for making such an exciting impact early on when he was playing with total freedom.

As it was, he ended up sitting around, watching our team lose all confidence and coherence, and came into the team when everything was completely falling apart, which probably made his integration significantly harder.

He might well have been totally useless anyway, but I don’t think the club did a good job of putting him in a position to succeed early on.

Spot on. At the time posters on here said “play him if you want him to have a muscle strain” and other such oddities despite the fact he had played an international tournament. Well he’s already had a strain anyway after sitting around for most of the season! (ignoring the latest injury).

At 20 years old I’d of struggled moving to Senegal and doing my job. Yes 2 coaches have over looked him but neither play a formation with wingers. Unless we play him out of position which wouldn’t surprise me we won’t see much of him even if he was fit. QSF has prioritized defending and is slowly succeeding if results go our way in these winnable games and we start moving up the table hopefully QSF starts to experiment with more attacking formations which will involve him. Just cos he cost so much shouldn’t give him an automatic spot in a team.

Massive sliding doors moment when we were 2-1 down at home to West Ham and he and Welbeck were stripped and ready to come on and the crowd was quite up for it. Then they got a corner and Javi opted to cancel the sub, keep on Deulofeu and Hughes on for their well noted defensive aerial ability. The ball then didn't go out of play for about four minutes and they scored a third to kill the game. Convinced that Javi would still be here if he'd been braver at the moment, and Sarr would've been a superstar.

Yes, huge and at times delusional misjudgements have been made. But right now it's all about surviving this season by hook or by crook and re-assessing in May depending on which division we are in.

He was successfully playing in France not Senegal. Would you have struggled and needed a few months on the sidelines if you moved to France ?

Interesting insight into your weak character, thanks. But I'm not sure of the relevance of your hypothetical life choices in an Ismaila Sarr thread on a Watford football forum.

What is relevant is that Sarr moved from Senegal to France with very little struggle, judging by his stellar performances at Metz and Rennes.

They speak French in France innit.
Poor lad doesn’t understand a bloody word here, no wonder he’s homesick.

Do Senegalese speak French ? And yes moving anywhere foreign takes time to adapt. I played football in the welsh league in my late 20’s never mind the language barrier getting a good kicking every Saturday for being English was bad enough.

What were you doing at 20 ? I was away from home in foreign lands but I also had a battalion of men with me speaking the same lingo in the same situation. So as for having a weak character, I think not. This lad is on his own France is already full of people from Africa I’m not sure but I think Senegalese speak French so he maybe never had the language barrier.

The looking eyes emoji was accompanying it in the caption.

Based on what I’d read earlier this week I wasn’t expecting to see him posted out on the training pitch. That said, the way our social media team seems to operate who really knows what’s going on.

They're tricking the clarets with old footage. Did you see the nice ball he laid through for Vydra who then went on the beat Rankin at his near post ?

Get in. Looking forward to his 8 minute cameo when we’re 3-0 down.

In this scenario, he came on at 56 minutes, replaced by Kiko shortly thereafter.

How is this possible? The medical experts on here were describing 'ankle ligament damage' on the basis of a news story that said nothing of the sort?

Firstly people to tend to jump the gun. It is an unfortunate product of social media. Rather than wait for facts to emerge they rely on press releases when the press themselves are far from reliable.

Sarr is already being written off much in the same way as Pepe is at Arsenal. Both players were tremendous in Ligue Une and that league despite it's dominance by PSG/Qatar United produces talent in abundance. I distinctly remember another player we bought from Rennes being written off in much the same fashion when he initially played. I did see he needed to improve his passing and shooting but the ability was there for all to see. That player was Doucoure. It took him a while to bed in.

Players coming from abroad will sometimes settle quickly. It depends on if they know the manager, they have compatriots at the club or fellow language speakers and how the manager decides to use them. Even if the player was brought in over the head of the manager may have an effect. They may decide to play them out of position. And it also depends on the mood at the club.

Sometimes the player may never settle but that does not mean he is an intrinsically bad player. One of the best examples is Diego Forlan. A flop at Manchester United but a great success at Villareal and Atletico Madrid. And then not so good at Internazionale due to being played out of position. We must let Sarr settle despite the circumstances of the club and hope that Flores utilizes him out wide where his pace and control will be devastating. The injuries he has suffered and lack of continuous play, an interrupted pre-season, the plight of the club and managerial changes have not helped but let's give him time. Encourage him. Let us not go bleating about the price tag either and let it become a millstone around his neck either.

Is that Rennes player you refer to, Doucoure?

The player who for as long as I can remember has been as **** as Sarr. Thanks, but no thanks.

Sarr has shown absolutely zero quality in his time here. He may go on to be a fine player, but it will be somewhere else and his signing will prove an unmitigated failure for Watford.

Hameur Bouazza was more effective and better for Watford than Sarr is or is likely to ever be.

Six Premier League Watford goals. Stronger, faster, shoots better and a bicycle kick against Manchester United.

Bouazza was discovered by a Watford fan and brought in for free.

Not more than 30 million. But I'm sure a few agents and execs have had a coffee or two out of it.

    www.premierleague.com/video/single/1250455

I've seen all of Sarr's Watford minutes and he does not seem strong enough or aware enough. You are a player or you're not. And there was no space in behind Burnley (or any side he's been on the pitch against) for him to show his perceived strengths. Dudski. Sorry.

There was one moment where he started galloping towards the Burnley box and I got excited.

Lightweight for sure but there's a player in there.

Loose example but Mane signed in September and didn't really get going for Southampton until about January..

It was obvious from his very first touch of the ball to anyone who knows anything about football that he will never make it here. Sometimes you just know.

See obbi oulare and his crazy jump for a header for further details.
