Deontay Wilder V Tyson Fury

Evening all,

If you are partial to a bit of boxing then you are well aware that the WBC Championship is being defended on Saturday 1st December (well technically the 2nd as its in America!).

What are everyones thoughts on how it will go down?

Ive started a youtube hobby - and quite conveniantly created a fight preview for this very fight which hopefully will catch you up to speed/tell you a bit about these two fighters coming into the fight.

If you have the time - do watch the video, like/subscribe/comment (all the usual youtube jargon), as it will help me out.

A difficult one to call. I think if its the Fury that beat Klitschko, the he would beat Wilder. I am not sure it will be, so I am leaning towards Wilder.

 

Wilder has never fought anyone on the level of Fury. And never fought anyone as awkward as Fury. As long as Fury is fit, he'll win. He's by far the superior boxer imo. It just hinges on Fury's condition.

 

Almost certainly Wilder IMO.

However having said that, if Fury did manage to beat Wilder, a fight between Fury and AJ would be sure to follow and that would probably be the biggest money spinning fight in the history of UK boxing

 

I hope Wilder kills the ****.

Fury is going to school him. Wilder is going to get frustrated. They will then bore each other and the viewing public to death in a crappy stand off. Fury on points.

 

How wrong was I....

 

Incredible how one judge can show Wilder winning by four points, and another show Fury winning by 4 points. We think we have problems with official's objectivity in football, but it can't be as bad as in boxing.

Couldn't sleep so got up to watch it via Sportsmania.

The last round knock down was genuinely like the Terminator rebooting (borrowed from Romesh Ranganathan on Twitter) - he was out and I think he may have missed the count...or maybe hoping.

I had Wilder ahead in every round as I deducted 10 points at the bell for Fury being a nasty, homophobic, bible spewing, hateful, classless and generally unlikeable human being...but he knows how to box.

 

Nice to see the pair spent their post match interviews and press conference talking about Joshua. That guy they don't rate and all that.

There's two men in the heavyweight division of any real ability and it isn't either of these 'dossers'.

 

Really wasn't that impressed with Wilder, haven't seen anyone swing and miss that much since Andre Gray.

I'm hearing at the Esso garage that the winner of the Wilder vs Joshua bout gets to fight Troy.

 

Judging by the state of Troy’s face he’s already done 12 rounds with all three of them

 

Well that's Joshua found out then....

 

A shame to see London's Anthony Joshua lose. I'm sure he'll go again.

 

Took his eye off the ball. Badly managed and sadly even in defeat still talking about legacy and journey. He's been average for 4 fights in a row now and I rated him highly but he's just not improved in that time.

 

Anthony Joshua was/is good when he goes in and just lets his hands go and tries to get someone knocked out earlier. He’s a great ‘fighter’. But a few fights ago, after the Klitschko fight, he started talking about transitioning into being a ‘boxer’ and it’s backfired. No longer exciting and trying to be Lennox Lewis or Tyson Fury when he doesn’t have the skill set.

I firmly believe Joshua beats Fury, Wilder etc - but only by trying to knock them out.

Last night was because they were so desperate not to cancel the fight after Miller’s failed drug test. Can’t cancel his big US debut at MSG - but it must have disrupted his training and focus and was silly to risk all he had earned so far just because Eddie Hearn would lose a few quid.

 

Gutted AJ lost to a boxer like Ruiz. But AJ has such a brilliant attitude. He's so inspiring and I love listening to him speak. He respects his opponent, and never trashes anyone.

I hope he gets a rematch and wins. I know the reaction from people is to sneer and put down everything he's achieved, but he's a local lad and people should be proud to have someone like him from Watford.

I love the bloke and he gets huge respect from me, whether he wins or loses.

 

He's always looked really vulnerable when he's hit, even in the Klitchko fight he took a long long time to recover. Same last night, once he was hit, he wasn't the same man. A bit of a "Bruno" glass chin I'm afraid.

 

He looked far too heavy for the fight I thought. He did not look well conditioned at all. The same happened to him the last time he had a change in opponent, he was really caught out my Takam and struggled in that fight.

Will be interesting to see how he does in the rematch now. Has completely changed the division, which I think can only be a good thing. Got a lot of respect for Tyson fury after the message of support he tweeted last night, less so for Deontay Wilder. Need to get those titles back in British hands.

 

He’s just not that good. He’s a massive brand but an average boxer, they’ve protected him well up until now, but now the game is up.

 

I didn't watch the fight but reading the detailed reports, sounds like he was well beaten and outboxed. This wasn't a Haseem Rahman sucker punch or a Buster Douglas punch of a lifetime, it was a boxer who either got his tactics completely wrong, didn't respect his opponent enough to prepare, or as seems probable to me, he was found out by an underrated and competent pro in Ruiz, who showed that he'd been lucky to have had the titles he has for this spell.

 

Protected him? He literally fought all the top competition around other than Wilder and Fury.

The reason for not fighting Wilder changes depending on who’s camp you believe. But Fury was out of the ring for years and not an option. Joshua hasn’t looked good for a few fights as he’s changed his style somewhat, and not for the better. But he’s certainly not been protected.

 

Don’t be fooled by Ruiz Jr’s physique. He’s a tough tough boxer and very heavy handed. I still think Joshua learns and deals with him in good fashion in the rematch. But last night shouldn’t be the shock that some are saying it was.

The worry for Joshua is his defence and footwork. He’s quick to come in on opponents but to slow to get away, and ever since Whyte rocked him a few years ago, opponents know they can hurt him.

 

I see small minded Wolves just can't let it go. That defeat we gave them in the semi final must have really cut deep.
